Buying drugs on the street is a game of Russian roulette. From Xanax to cocaine, drugs or counterfeit pills purchased in nonmedical settings may contain life-threatening amounts of fentanyl. Physicians like me have seen a rise in unintentional fentanyl use from people buying prescription opioids and other drugs laced, or adulterated, with fentanyl. Heroin users in my community in Massachusetts came to realize that fentanyl had entered the drug supply when overdose numbers exploded. In 2016, my colleagues and I found that patients who came to the emergency department reporting a heroin overdose often only had fentanyl present in their...

When George Floyd was murdered, many Americans wanted to do something. Some protested; others pushed to defund the police. The business community, looking to do its part (and receive favorable media attention), went on a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) hiring spree, bringing on highly-paid executives – mostly racial minorities – to create programs to make their workplaces more attractive for minorities. But then the economy began to slow. Want to guess what happened next? According to a recent report from HR consulting firm Revelio Labs, DEI executives were terminated at a much higher rate than all other executives in...

Since January,...

For some it's too much to watch. Others just can't turn away. The televised trial of Derek Chauvin, the former white police officer charged in the death of George Floyd, has provoked strong emotions among many Black men and women — all tinged with an underlying dread that it could yield yet another devastating disappointment. For many, it has brought back memories of the disturbing video of Floyd's last moments as he gasped for breath with Chauvin's knee on his neck. The video galvanized protests in cities across the U.S. and the world, as the words "Black Lives Matter" took...

Without a doubt, there are Republicans who are not entirely honest. But what also seems true is that Democrats and their allies far outpace their political opponents in the realm of wrongdoing, especially when it comes to kinky stuff. You may recall the name of Southern California resident Ed Buck, the Democrat mega-donor who has given to Leftists like Hillary Clinton, Adam Schiff, and Ted Lieu. In January 2019, authorities in California reopened a criminal probe involving Buck after a second black man was found dead in a West Hollywood apartment owned by Buck in 18 months. UPI reported: Buck,...

Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is promoting the reopening of schools across the country, noting the serious risks associated with keeping kids out of classrooms. During a webinar for the Buck Institute, Redfield pointed out the low risk of children spreading COVID-19 and said the spike in suicides and drug overdoses is “far greater” than the number of coronavirus-related deaths among the country’s younger population. “It’s not risk of school openings versus public health,” he said. “It’s public health versus public health.” Redfield added, “I’m of the point of view, and I weigh...
