President Trump conceded that a wall is a "medieval" solution to the border, but said it still works. The president made the remarks in his first public appearance since Tuesday night's prime-time address, during a bill signing at the White House. Some people, the president said, call a border wall a "medieval solution" to the situation at the southern border, but they used walls at that time because they worked. "They say it's a medieval solution, a wall. It's true because it worked then and it works even better now," the president said.

DO you know the story of the Incredible Disappearing Border Fence? It’s an object lesson in gesture politics and homeland insecurity. It’s a tale of hollow rhetoric, meaningless legislation and bipartisan betrayal. And – in the runup to the Iowa caucuses – it’s a helpful learning tool as you assess the promises of immigration-enforcement converts now running for president. Last fall, Democrats and Republicans in Washington responded to continued public outrage over border chaos by passing the “Secure Fence Act.” Did you question the timing? You should have. It’s no coincidence they finally got off their duffs to respond just...

Well kids, you’re on your own today. We’re heading out into the mountains. We’ve got clear forecasts for the 3 day trip but things can change on a dime and traveling across the Continental Divide through Wyoming is always iffy this time of year. Even if it isn’t snowing the wind can whip the fallen snow into whiteout conditions. Mountain passes in the winter aren’t for wimps.Interesting side note: See those structures on the left? They’re snow fences, somewhat ubiquitous on highways in the northern climes now days but apparently they were originally researched, designed and tested in Wyoming. Their...

To the Democratic National Committee elites, keeping average Americans away from their convention is a good idea, while protecting the southern border from intruding terrorists, rapists and murderers is a bad one. The DNC has erected a four-mile fence around its convention site at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center. (Isn’t it ironic they’re doing so much to protect a site named after a bank?)

The US will have spent nearly $6 trillion on the war on terror by the end of fiscal year 2019, according to a startling new report. "If the US continues on its current path, war spending will continue to grow," the Costs of War report states. Between 480,000 and 507,000 people have been killed in the United States' post-9/11 wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan - including nearly 7,000 US troops - according to the Costs of War project. America is conducting counterterror operations in 76 countries and US troops are fighting and dying everywhere from Afghanistan to Niger....

In his speech in El Paso on immigration reform on May 10, 2011, President Obama declared that the fence along the border with Mexico is "now basically complete." Still, he predicted that many Republican opponents won't be satisfied. "We have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement," Obama said. "All the stuff they asked for, we’ve done. But even though we’ve answered these concerns, I’ve got to say I suspect there are still going to be some who are trying to move...

he day the fence arrived, Gabe was sitting next to his tent, right at the heart of Los Angeles’ Skid Row. It was a chain link fence – about six feet tall – placed at the edge of the sidewalk, where it neatly enclosed Gabe, his neighbors, and the tented homes they have made for themselves on the streets of what is sometimes called the homeless capital of the country. “They put the whole sidewalk inside the fence,” said Gabe, an older black man with kind eyes and a disarming demeanor who has lived on the streets of Skid Row...

President Donald Trump told supporters at a speech on Saturday that if Congress did not meet his funding demands for border security, he may support a government shutdown this fall. Trump was speaking in Washington Township, Michigan, at the same time that the White House correspondents' dinner was taking place back in Washington, DC, with some lawmakers and current and former members of his administration in attendance. During his remarks, he alluded to the appropriations deadline at the end of September. "We have to have borders, and we have to have them fast," he said. "And we need security. We...

Denmark’s conservative parties have backed a motion to erect a 70-kilometer-long fence along the country’s border with Germany in a measure to protect pork exports. The government and parliamentary ally the Danish People’s Party agreed on Thursday on a number of proposals aimed at preventing the African swine fever virus from spreading amongst the country’s large pig population. Those measures include a fence to run along a large stretch of the border with Germany. “I do not want to take any risk. We have an export industry worth 11 billion kroner (€1.5 billion) annually, which could be put at risk,”...

When Mike O’Brien, Ballard’s Seattle City Council member, biked up the Ballard Bridge last Thursday night, he counted five tents camped under the north ramp. He went back Tuesday, and those tents were gone. The underpass was fenced off, and workers were drilling holes to put up a 10-foot-high spiked fence to prevent homeless people from camping there.

The last time a president visited the border in Yuma, Arizona, was 2007, when then-President George W. Bush came to oversee the massive fence-building campaign he’d begun a year earlier, hoping to get a handle on the sea of illegal immigrants flowing north. Ten years later, as President Trump visits Yuma on Tuesday, the region is considered one of the border’s clearest success stories. A surge in fencing and Border Patrol agents and a get-tough approach to prosecuting illegal immigrants have produced results that once seemed unimaginable. The number of illegal immigrants arrested — a rough yardstick for the overall...

A fat beaver stuck in a wrought-iron fence was rescued this week by a quick-thinking animal services officer. The adult beaver, still carrying excess fat from winter hibernation, was found stuck between two fence bars around noon Tuesday on a private property in Hamilton, city spokesperson Ann Lamanes said in a release. Officer Sarah Mombourquette used soap to free the beaver, which suffered some injuries. After resting at the city’s animal services shelter and snacking on some vegetables, the beaver is recovering at the Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge in Jarvis, Ont., and is expected to eventually be released back into the...

Yes, border fences work. And that is exactly why the political class is so stridently intent on opposing the construction of a full double-layered fence or any effective barrier at the border. The bipartisan open borders cartel is all in favor of discussing sundry forms of “border security,” especially if it will afford them the political cover to pass amnesty. But the one tangible form of border security they will never support, and, in fact, will pull out all stops to prevent, is the completion of the border fence. .. Border fences work … just look at San Diego and...

Donald Trump’s proclamation that he would build a “wall” along the U.S.-Mexico border was a major selling point in his campaign ... It was this commitment that helped propel Trump to the forefront of a crowded field of primary opponents ... and it no less helped distinguish him significantly from Hillary Clinton ... nationwide. It will soon be show-time for Trump, ... millions of Americans are eager to see him follow through on this promise—... There is some angst, that Trump and .. advisers might be taking a step back from ... a wall ... instead considering a virtual barrier,...
