California Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi announced the creation of a House “climate crisis” committee. Already far-left Democrats are expressing their discontent with Pelosi’s plan. Pelosi announced the “climate crisis” committee after flying thousands of miles to Hawaii. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced Friday that Democrats would create a Select Committee on the Climate Crisis in 2019, which will be headed by Florida Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor. However, Pelosi’s announcement isn’t placating progressives in her party, such as New York Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who support “Green New Deal” legislation.

WASHINGTON -- House Democrats are preparing to take control of the lower chamber next week by forming a new Select Committee on the Climate Crisis -- but some members of the caucus aren't happy. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the caucus' choice for the next speaker of the House, today announced the appointment of Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, to lead the select panel. "She will bring great experience, energy and urgency to the existential threat of the climate crisis," Pelosi said in a statement. "This committee will be critical to...

Instead, Democrats are sticking to their original plan, and channeled Exxon Mobil in an announcement refusing to bar members who take fossil fuel money. Democratic leaders on Thursday tapped Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) to head a revived U.S. House panel on climate change, all but ending a dramatic monthlong effort to establish a select committee on a Green New Deal. Castor’s appointment came as a surprise to proponents of a Green New Deal. Despite weeks of protests demanding House Democrats focus efforts next year on drafting a Green New Deal, the sort of sweeping economic policy that scientists say matches...

President Trump said the "real collusion" story was Democrats and cable news pundits accusing him of creating a "manufactured crisis" in his push for a border wall. Trump spoke with Sean Hannity during a trip to McAllen, Texas, where the Fox News host asked the president for his thoughts on the phrase. "I saw on your show actually where you had anchor after anchor using the exact same word. 'It’s manufactured, manufactured,'" Trump said. "Sounds like they’re in collusion," Hannity chimed in. "Yeah, little collusion," Trump said. "That’s the real collusion, OK? That's the real collusion. You take a look...

Full title........Sen. Marco Rubio warns Trump a border emergency could embolden a future Dem president on climate change A national emergency declaration by President Donald Trump over border security could wind up hurting Republicans, GOP Sen. Marco Rubio told CNBC on Wednesday. The Florida Republican contended that Trump was elected on the promise of building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and the president has to “keep that promise.” But “we have to be careful about endorsing broad uses of executive power,” he added. “I’m not prepared to endorse that right now.” Such a declaration would set a precedent, Rubio...
  • Six GOP Senators Offer to Trade Amnesties for Border Wall plus Cheap Labor

Six GOP Senators briefed Jared Kushner and President Donald Trump’s top congressional aide about a plan to swap two amnesties in exchange for border-wall funding. The six GOP Senators included Graham, North Carolina’s Thom Tillis, Tennessee’s Lamar Alexander, Ohio’s Rob Portman, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski, and Maine’s Susan Collins. The Senators’ draft offer to the Democrats, however, also includes incentives sought by GOP-aligned business groups, such as an expansion of the H-2B blue collar visa-worker program. Few Democrats support the H-2B visa program but its inclusion could encourage GOP legislators to ignore protests from the GOP’s pro-American base. Several GOP Senators...

Seventeen people were murdered, and 17 others injured. The Sun Sentinel also revealed that Nichols overturned a unanimous decision by a discipline committee to fire Medina four months before the shooting. A new Florida law is scheduled to take effect on Tuesday that will reportedly allow those who have been convicted of felonies to register to vote. The Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the new measure, which 64 percent of residents voted to approve last year, will automatically restore voting rights to Floridians with past felony convictions. According to the local newspaper, offenders who were not convicted of murder or sexual offenses that have also completed “all terms of their sentence including parole or probation” will have their voting rights automatically restored on Tuesday.

The gun-control advocate responded to President Trump’s speech on illegal immigration and the crisis at the border by implying that the United States is “stolen land.”

Ron DeSantis' first of three Supreme Court selections. DeSantis, standing with Lagoa and Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez at the Freedom Tower on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, made the announcement at 10 a.m. It was one of his first orders of business in office and one of his highest priorities. She is the first Hispanic woman in history to serve on the Florida Supreme Court. Her appointment is effective immediately. "Justice Lagoa’s proven commitment to upholding...

After eight years as governor of Florida and a winning campaign for the Senate, Republican Rick Scott has plenty to say about his blueprint for appealing to Hispanic voters in the nation's largest swing state. But when it comes to President Donald Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric, his controversial push for border wall funding and his sharply panned response to Hurricane Maria, Scott prefers to change the subject. "I think I got elected to get things done. I didn't get elected because I'm going to be, you know, giving the fiery speeches and being in the news every day," he said in...

Tuesday is a historic day in Florida. Under an amendment passed by the voters in November, as many as 1.4 million felons are regaining the right to vote. The referendum overturned a 150-year-old law that permanently disenfranchised people with felony convictions. Before the change, people who served their time could apply for clemency to a board headed by the governor. But the cumbersome process and a multiyear backlog meant that only a small percentage applied. As a result, more than 10 percent of Florida's adult population was not eligible to vote. Desmond Meade who helped organize the referendum campaign says...

The Senate late Tuesday will hold a procedural vote on a bill that supports Israel by allowing state and local governments to divest from entities that boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel because of its occupation of the West Bank. The provision is part of legislation numbered “S.1” that was to be the very first bill senators debate in the 116th Congress. In addition to the BDS language, it includes several Middle East security provisions such as new authorities for sanctioning Bashar Assad's regime in Syria and reauthorization of security assistance to Israel. But Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ben Cardin,...

Former Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz, now a Fox News commentator, predicted Sunday the partial government shutdown would continue at least through President Donald Trump's State of the Union address, and Republicans would be seen as the winners. If the current partial shutdown continues through Friday, it would be the longest on the books. Chaffetz, speaking on Fox News Sunday, said he believes the shutdown would still be going on at that point, and would likely not end before President Trump gives his speech on January 29. "I think the next pressure point is the State of the Union at the...

The father of a student shot and killed during the Parkland school massacre has been appointed to the state Board of Education, Gov. Rick Scott announced Friday evening. For 52-year-old Andy Pollack, it is all about accountability. “That word has haunted me since my daughter was murdered,” Pollack, of Coral Springs, said Friday night. His daughter, Meadow, 18, a senior, was shot nine times during the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Meadow’s body was found in a third-floor hallway. She was lying on top of the body of 14-year-old freshman Cara Loughran, as if protecting her....
