TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — With one day left before Election Day, more than 5 million voters have already cast ballots in the battleground state of Florida, and records show Democrats have the edge. New statistics released Monday by the state Division of Elections show that nearly 2.7 million people have voted early, and nearly 2.4 million people have voted by mail. Democrats have cast 2.06 million ballots. Republicans have cast 2.04 million. More than 948,000 voters with no party affiliation have also voted. This year's totals far exceed those of 2014 midterms, but are still short of the 6.6 million who voted ahead of Election Day in 2016. Florida's more than 13 million registered voters are choosing a new governor and voting on a pivotal U.S. Senate contest.

Republican strategist Mary Matalin argued that President Donald Trump is “not the cause” of the lack of civility or “bad behavior” seen among the American electorate, adding that America’s political discourse has been “worse” in the past. Matalin predicted that the GOP is going to pick up seats in the Senate on Tuesday and won’t lose the majority in the House of Representatives. “Nobody knows who they are anymore and all these labels mean nothing. And in the middle of that, instead of debating, we started calling each other names. This Trump, as I’ve often said and as you can...

Early voting surged to its highest levels yet in Florida’s biggest counties on Saturday, giving Democrats new hope for a “blue wave” that could catapult Andrew Gillum to the governor’s mansion and keep Bill Nelson in the U.S. Senate. Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough and Orange, the five biggest “blue” counties, all reported their highest one-day early voting totals of the 2018 campaign. As a result, on a day when President Donald Trump rallied thousands of Republicans in Pensacola, the GOP’s ballot advantage over the Democrats shrank to six-tenths of 1 percentage point (0.6), with GOP ballots at 40.8 percent...

“If the Democrats lose the Florida Senate, that’s going to be bad, really bad,” Carville said. “If Nelson loses Florida and you are a Democrat, throw up and go to bed because the night is over.”

President Donald Trump on Saturday used his final Florida campaign event before next week’s elections to implore supporters to send Republicans to the governor’s mansion and the U.S. Senate, claiming that allowing Democrats to win either office would bring ruin to the state he also calls home. Trump returned to Florida for the second time this week to help rally support for Gov. Rick Scott, who is challenging Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson. Trump also sought to boost former Rep. Ron DeSantis, who is facing off against Andrew Gillum, the Democratic mayor of Tallahassee, in the race for governor. Trump argued...

An intern for Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum has been arrested and charged with battery after she threw chocolate milk on a group of College Republicans tabling on campus. The far-left student activist who had the profanity-laced meltdown, Shelby Shoup, is listed as an intern for the Andrew Gillum for Florida Governor Campaign on LinkedIn and a member of FSU Students for Justice in Palestine. Shoup threw her drink on SFU College Republicans Chair Daisy Judge, and when another student passing by tried to de-escalate the situation, she threw the remainder of her drink on him. “You are supporting...

A convicted felon who has claimed that he had gay sex with President Barack Obama is running to become mayor of a Florida town. Larry Sinclair gave a speech at the National Press Club in 2008, while Obama was running for President, alleging that the then-Senator bought and smoked cocaine and had sex with him in 1999. Sinclair, who has served prison time in Arizona, Florida and Colorado for forgery, fraud and larceny, is now campaigning to win the mayor’s seat in Cocoa, a town of around 19,000 people, in the November 6 election. The South Carolina native has...

In what I can only imagine was a move to redistribute private property, Florida's Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum's self-admitted communist intern has been arrested for throwing chocolate milk on a group of Florida State University College Republicans among other misbehavior, reports Fox News. Apparently, earlier this week Shelby Shoup believed it her duty to inform the College Republicans they were supporting Nazis. When College Republicans pointed out she was wearing a communist pin and supported communists, she said, "Yeah, I f*cking am." Then, according to Fox, "Shoup threw her drink on SFU College Republicans Vice-Membership Chair, Daisy Judge, and...

Former President Barack Obama came to Miami on Friday to campaign for Andrew Gillum who is running for Florida governor as well as for the nearly invisible incumbent senator, Bill Nelson. CNN was on hand to cover the rally and picked one of the people in the crowd "at random" to interview. During the course of the interview, it was revealed that the "random" person just so happened to be the mother of Gillum. Wow! What a coincidence.

He never mentioned him by name, but former President Barack Obama made it clear Friday at a rally in Miami’s Overtown that by electing Andrew Gillum governor of Florida, the state can deliver a blow to President Donald Trump.... On Friday, the faithful jammed into a sweltering, cavernous room at Miami’s Ice Palace Film Studios, several attendees wearing Obama T-shirts they said dated to his first run for the presidency in 2008. Gillum’s campaign said more than 4,000 people attended....

As has been the case so many times in recent history, this year’s election in Florida might be the most important race to watch. The governor’s race is a proxy battle that pits a Trump-endorsed congressman against the Bernie Sanders-endorsed mayor of Tallahassee. Indeed, a Trump versus Bernie battle was what many expected to see in the 2016 presidential election – and may very well see in the future. The candidates for Florida governor, Republican Ron DeSantis and Democrat Andrew Gillum, are running on vastly different fiscal policy agendas in a race that could give political observers insight into what...

President Donald Trump’s rally on Wednesday night in Fort Myers for Ron DeSantis and Rick Scott packed the Hertz Arena to the brim whereas Bernie Sanders and Andrew Gillum struggled to fill half the floor of the CFE Arena during their competing rally held earlier in the day. Former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala is in, perhaps, the tightest congressional race in this year's midterm election cycle.Shalala, who headed the department for eight years under former President Bill Clinton and previously served as the president of the University of Miami, is the Democratic nominee campaigning to represent Florida's 27th congressional district. The polls have her neck-and-neck in a race where healthcare issues, specifically the lack of Medicaid expansion in Florida and the future of the Affordable Care Act, have taken center stage. Shalala spoke to HealthLeaders about why she's frustrated with the Trump administration's approach to the healthcare system...
