Runners getting set to take part in the Boston Marathon were warned beforehand that they were going to die, said a Squamish resident who took part in the race. Three people were killed and more than 140 were injured when two bombs exploded near the finish line of the famed 42.2-kilometre running event on Monday (April 15). Mike Heiliger, 59, said a woman holding several bags was telling runners who were picking up their pre-race packages in downtown Boston on Saturday (April 13) that they were going to die if they participated in the event. “I was downtown on Saturday...

Osama bin Laden's 16-year-old son led a suicide bomb squad sent to kill Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, according to her own claims. Before she was assassinated in December the former prime minister claimed she had been warned that four such death teams would try to kill her. And the naming of bin Laden's teenage son, Hamza, could now strengthen claims that he is being groomed as a future leader of the al Qaeda terror group. In 2001, he appeared in a joint Taliban and al Qaeda video of a militant attack on a Pakistan army camp in South Waziristan,...

WASHINGTON, April 9, 2008 – U.S. Rep. Howard L. Berman has a gavel, and he’s not afraid to use it. At the fourth appearance in front of a congressional audience by the United States’ top military commander and envoy to Iraq, Berman, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, cut to the chase. Already, Army Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker had both seen more than 12 hours of combined testimony before the start of their final appearance on Capitol Hill this afternoon. Berman asked for only a summary of their previous testimony so the committee members...

HONOLULU, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- U.S. officials had intelligence the suspect in the Christmas attack on Flight 253 was planning an attack but the information was fragmented, an official said. Speaking with reporters in Honolulu, where President Barack Obama is vacationing with his family, the official said it was not evident in the days before the attack that several items of intelligence information were connected but "it is now clear to us that there are bits and pieces of information that were in the possession of the U.S. government in advance of the Christmas Day attack … that had they...

Before the string of blazes that lay siege this week to nearly all of Southern California, even before the historic firestorms of 2003, then-San Bernardino National Forest Supervisor Gene Zimmerman told his bosses in Washington about the problem before him. The most populous national forest faced a mounting threat of catastrophic fire, and reducing it would cost a lot of money, he said. On Wednesday, Agriculture Department Undersecretary Mark Rey, the nation's top fire official, said funds meant to restore forests to health have reached record levels in recent years -- and that the San Bernardino National Forest has received...

Cyclone Kerry may move towards Australia. Weather forecasters are keeping a close watch on a cyclone expected to move slowly towards Australia. The category three Cyclone Kerry formed near Fiji on January 6 and has moved slowly westwards, weather forecaster Jeff Callaghan said. "It's way, way out in the eastern part of our area and moving very slowly at the moment," Mr Callaghan told AAP. "It will probably do that for another 24 hours then just slowly move towards the Queensland coast." By mid-morning, Cyclone Kerry was in the Coral Sea about 1,200 km east-north-east of the north Queensland city...

Sept. 17— By Tabassum Zakaria WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. intelligence agencies had picked up reports of attacks planned for inside the United States and of using airplanes as weapons during the spring and summer before last year's Sept. 11 attacks, but were more focused on the possibility of an assault overseas, a congressional source said on Tuesday. But there was no information that specified date, time, place or method that would have pointed to the attacks on New York and Washington, the source familiar with a congressional inquiry into intelligence failures told reporters."What you're going to find is that there...

9/11 Inquiry Reveals WTC Threat in 1998 Wed Sep 18, 6:49 PM ET By Tabassum Zakaria WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. congressional hearing was told on Wednesday that three years before the Sept. 11 attacks intelligence agencies had information about a group that planned to fly an explosive-laden plane from a foreign country into the World Trade Center. The information obtained in August 1998 about the group of "unidentified Arabs" was passed to the FBI and the Federal Aviation Administration, but "the FAA found the plot highly unlikely given the state of that foreign country's aviation program," said Eleanor Hill,...

Today Neil Cavuto claimed that an Iraqi paper ran a rather cryptic article making threatening statments about Washington monuments and declaring that America would "Curse the name of Frank Sinatra." This seems to have predicted 9/11 several months ahead of time, the Frank Sinatra comment was appearently in reference to "New York, New York." What's the story with this? Just how precient was this article? It sounded like pretty damning evidence.

THIRTEEN MONTHS AGO, Senator Hillary Clinton rose on the Senate floor to demand answers to questions about what President Bush knew about the September 11 attacks before those attacks occurred. Dick Gephardt (then minority leader in the House) echoed the demand, asking "what the president and what the White House knew about events leading up to 9/11, when they knew it, and most importantly, what was done about it at the time." The Notebook editors at the New Republic couldn't resist a little second guessing of their own--directed at Attorney General John Ashcroft's post-attack request for a higher budget for...
