House Republicans on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic are questioning Dr. Anthony Fauci on Monday and Tuesday in closed-door sessions; the focus, according to committee chairman Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), is “pandemic-era” failures. Members of the committee are expected to question Fauci about many failures surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, including Fauci’s participation in casting doubt on the theory that the coronavirus came from a lab leak:

  • The Future of Grilling Season Is a Levitating Hot Dog Roaster

    05/18/2021 9:06:26 AM PDT · by mylife · 78 replies
Looking for a more hygienic way to roast a hot dog that doesn’t involve it rolling around on a rarely cleaned grill? Taking advantage of the Coandă effect, YouTube’s NightHawkInLight has created a bizarre BBQ alternative that instead levitates a wiener inside a red hot coil. Even if you’re not familiar with the Coandă effect, you’ve probably seen a video or two online of it in action, and have definitely experienced it in real life. Named after Romanian inventor Henri Coandă, it describes an effect where a fluid jet—either a liquid or gas—has the tendency to cling to the contours...

Loretta Lynch is promising a fresh relationship with law enforcement – and with Congress – as she appears before a Senate committee Wednesday in her bid to become the nation´s first female black attorney general. But she has serious hurdles in front of her as the Senate Judiciary Committee, now under Republican control, warns about ´a Department of Justice that is deeply politicized´ under the outgoing AG, Eric Holder. Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, the committee´s chairman, said in his opening statement that America´s next top law enforcer would need to worry about ´restoring respect for the co-equal branches of...

An advocacy group has released images which claim to show an NYPD officer putting a seven-months pregnant woman into a chokehold for illegally grilling on the sidewalk in front of her apartment. NYPD officers have been banned from using the chokehold since 1993, but an officer can be seen in the pictures wrapping his arm around 27-year-old Rosan Miller's neck in the Saturday incident. Her young daughter is also in the pictures, watching the arrest unfold. The NYPD told MailOnline that it is currently investigating the incident.

As barbecue season approaches, researchers have discovered an unlikely ingredient that could improve the safety of your meat - letting it swill in beer. They say that letting meat marindade in pilsner can help reduce the formation of potentially harmful cancer-causing substances in grilled meats. They say pilsner and black beer are most effective, halving the amount of Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which have been linked to colorectal cancer.

As a fifth-generation, family owner of Omaha Steaks, I literally grew up grilling. It’s my heritage. My great, great-grandfather started the company and for nearly 100 years, we’ve been working to help our customers to master the art of grilling the perfect steak. I had great teachers in my dad and other family members, but I have had my share of grill disasters, too.

House Republicans will adopt a new approach to their investigations of the healthcare reform law this week with a public grilling of a powerful lobby group that supported the overhaul. On Friday, two House Ways and Means subpanels will demand that AARP answer questions about its business practices and political endorsements. Republicans have accused the seniors lobby of endorsing healthcare reform to make more money from its endorsement of Medigap insurance policies. The continuing debate over a spending bill funding the government will also spark more friction on the healthcare front. Lawmakers have less than two weeks to come up...

There’s an old poem that celebrates Yankee thrift which goes something like this: Use it up, wear it out, Make it do, or do without. These days, we might add another verse to that: Once worn out, don’t turn it loose, Put it to another use. (Burma Shave) I will now give you a perfect example of re-purposing a large object to a completely different use. Late last summer, our old grill was pretty much on its last legs; we had replaced the innards several times, but it was clearly time for a new grill. Once the new grill was...
