WASHINGTON — Emboldened by President Donald Trump’s campaign platform of law and order, militia groups have bolstered their strength before Election Day by attracting military veterans who bring weapons and tactical skills viewed as important to the organizations. The role of veterans in the newly proliferating militia groups — which sometimes are steeped in racism and other times steeped simply in anti-government zealotry — has increased over the last decade, said a dozen experts on law enforcement, domestic terrorism and extremist groups.

Of all the overwrought reactions to “Fire and Fury,” New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg has the early clubhouse lead. Appearing on this evening’s Hardball, Goldberg, speaking of President Trump, said: “The existential survival of this country, which I think it’s not an exaggeration to say that that’s what’s at stake.” Get the rest of the story and view the video here.
  • Rattled Joy Behar: 'The View' Is the Only ‘Check’ on President Trump!

A clearly rattled Joy Behar on Wednesday reacted to the election of Donald Trump as President by declaring, seriously, that The View will be the only remaining check on the businessman’s total power. She began by inaccurately stating, “What scares me the most... is that not since George W. Bush has there been a White House, a Senate and a House of Representatives all from the same party.” (Not true. Barack Obama’s Democratic Party controlled the White House, the Senate and the House in the President’s first two years.) After complaining about the FBI sticking “its nasty little nose in...

  • Hens Rescued from Abandoned Egg Ranch, Need Homes

VACAVILLE— Animal rescuers in Vacaville are getting closer to adopting out thousands of chickens that were rescued last month from an abandoned egg ranch. The hens were left for dead by Andy Keung Cheung, the owner of A&L Poultry, according to Stanislaus County Animal Services. Officials say most of the 50,000 hens were either dead or had to be euthanized because they were in such bad shape. Animal Place in Vacaville is one of three rescue groups currently rehabilitating the hens that were deemed healthy enough for potential adoption. Animal Place, Farm Sanctuary in Orland and Harvest Home in the...

We just recently purchased 6 Buff Orpington hens that are getting ready to turn 8 months old and were already laying. Yesterday I noticed one of the girls has a black diarrhea. Not sure if it's a "stress" or if it's food or illness causing it. We currently give them layer crumble and have recently given them stale bread ( OMG They're like my labs with food , when it comes to stale bread lol ) and some cabbage leaves. Just was wondering if anyone has had experience with black diarrhea in your hens and could offer some tips.

Author Ann Coulter sparred with Joy Behar on Reaganomics on Wednesday's episode of The View. "How are you going to solve it if you don't have any revenue coming in?" asked Joy Behar of the conservative commentator, who is currently promoting her latest book, Demonic. "When Reagan cut taxes, each year, as the taxes went down, revenue to the treasury went up" Coulter responded. As The View's most ardent leftist, Behar went on to try to blame bad loans and the housing crisis on Republicans. Coulter merely rebutted with the facts. "You cannot blame the Republicans on that" said Coulter....

CONCORD -- New Hampshire lawmakers are being asked to guarantee egg-laying hens will have room to spread their wings. Supporters of two bills told a House committee Friday that the chickens should not be kept in such small cages that they can't spread their wings. They said the cages -- called battery cages -- are usually about 67 square inches in size and don't allow chickens to move properly. One bill would ban the practice in New Hampshire -- though supporters acknowledge there's no evidence of abuse in the state. The ban also would apply to domesticated turkey, duck, goose...
  • Who wants to listen to Bush when you can hear what Kyra thinks of her control freak sister-in-law?

IT SOUNDS like the television anchorwoman’s ultimate nightmare. Take lavatory break. Leave personal microphone on. Have cloakroom gossip — including how much you hate your sister-in-law — broadcast live in excruciating detail during a nationally televised speech by President Bush. CNN was forced to apologise yesterday after such a fate befell Kyra Phillips, whose trenchant views on her brother’s wife, mixed with the sound of zips and running water, drowned out Mr Bush as he spoke live from New Orleans to mark the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Her inadvertent comments gave the name of her show, Live From, a...

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is weighing responses to a possible North Korean missile test that include attempting to shoot it down in flight over the Pacific, defense officials told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Because North Korea has made it a practice not to announce its missile tests in advance, U.S. officials say they cannot be sure of the government's intentions. Under that circumstance, the Pentagon is considering the possibility that it might need to attempt an interception, two defense officials said. The officials agreed to discuss the matter only on condition of anonymity because of its political sensitivity....

The 1980s and 1990s were the Belle Époque - the beautiful age - of commercial development, a time when getting project approval could be as simple as shaking the right hand or making the right campaign donation. And Americans were all for it, ready to embrace the next mall or Home Depot or Starbucks Coffee outlet that gave them easy access to consumer products. Mike Saint was there for it and remembers when making proposed developments reality was simple. No more. "At a conference in 2004, I heard a developer say 'Up until 1999, anything I wanted to do was...
