On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5, the Orwellian Equality Act. Three Republicans joined every single Democrat to pass the bill, 224-206. The bill now moves to the Senate, where it requires 60 votes to bypass the filibuster. It is unlikely that nine Republicans will defect on a bill that would eviscerate religious freedom. While eight Republicans voted for a similar version of the Equality Act in 2019, three backed the disastrous 2021 version. Representatives * John Katko (R-N.Y.), * Tom Reed (R-N.Y.), and * Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) voted for the bill. Conservatives should remember these names. In...

Fear, Silence and Inaction: Eroding Catholic Civil Rights The following is written by Hon. Robert Marshall, former member of the Virginia House of Delegates The so-called Equality ActOn October 30, 2008, Barack Obama said, “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”   The legal policy changes wrought under the Obama Administration paved the way for the so-called Equality Act, HR 5, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on May 17, 2019 by a vote of 236 to 173.  The Equality Act would fundamentally and radically alter Civil Rights Law to prohibit “discrimination” on the...

The House voted 236-173 Friday to pass Democrats’ Equality Act, pushed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “This is not about tolerance,” Pelosi said in a video posted to Twitter. “This is about respect for our LGBTQ communities, this is about taking pride.” “We won the fight in the House today, and we will continue until we see these protections become law,” House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., tweeted moments after the bill passed. The bill, which is not expected to pass the Senate due to its Republican majority, adds sexual orientation and gender identity to characteristics—race, color, religion, sex, or...

Democrats in the House approved sweeping anti-discrimination legislation Friday that would extend civil rights protections to LGBT people by prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The protections would extend to employment, housing, loan applications, education, public accommodations and other areas. Called the Equality Act, the bill is a top priority of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who said it will bring the nation "closer to equal liberty and justice for all." Sexual orientation and gender identity "deserve full civil rights protections - in the workplace and in every place, education, housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations," Pelosi said....

The House on Friday for the first time approved legislation banning anti-LGBT discrimination in a 236-173 vote. The Equality Act would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fair Housing Act to ban discrimination in employment, housing, jury selection and public accommodations based on sexual orientation and gender identity. “This legislation will provide members of LGBTQ Americans protections from being denying medical care or being fired or thrown out of their homes,” House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said on the floor ahead of the vote. He said the bill would expand the definition of “who is understood...

Full title: Pediatrician Warns 'Equality Act' Would Strip Parental Rights, Force Catholic Hospitals Out of Business, and End Girls' Sports The Daily Signal sat down with Dr. Michelle Cretella, a pediatrician and executive director of the American College of Pediatricians, to discuss the "Equality Act" and its impact it would have on parental rights, doctors' oath to do no harm to patients, as well as the effect it would have on Faith-based organization who oppose transgender ideology, and even its impact girls' sports. Dr. Cretella warned the "Equality Act," despite its name, would unfairly strip parents and moral conscientious health...

When Mary Gregory swept nine events at the Raw Federation match last weekend, it shattered four world records in women's weightlifting. There's just one problem -- Mary isn't a woman. Suddenly, the "accomplishment" -- a biological man overpowering real females -- isn't so impressive. In fact, competitors will tell you, it's a joke. An unfunny one, more Olympians are warning, since it will almost certainly mean the end of women's sports. And sooner than you think. If women care about the integrity of their games at all, 2004 Gold Medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes argues, it's time "to boycott events."...

In keeping with the radical proposals their presidential candidates are backing, Democrats in Congress are ready to enshrine science denial in the law. Now the party of abortion and sodomy wants to amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include the “transgendered,” that subset of the mentally ill who think they are members of the opposite sex. The practical result: Schools will have to permit boys who pretend they are girls to play on girls' teams, and prisons will have to permit men who pretend they are women to live in the women's wing of the lock-up.

When the Supreme Court destroyed the institution of marriage in one fell swoop with the Obergefell V. Hodges ruling, liberals, and LGBT advocates mocked us for predicting the slippery slope we now find ourselves on. Our children are growing up in a world where gender is supposedly fluid (unless we’re using it to get what we want) and love is whatever we want it to be. It was only a matter of time before the insanity of the culture would set the stage for pedophilia follow on the coattails of homosexuality and become a normalized sexual orientation. Under the so-called...

James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and the James Dobson Family Institute, the author of dozens of books on family and adviser to presidents, warns the Democrats’ proposed Equality Act is a really, really bad deal for the nation. Dobson, on behalf of his James Dobson Family Institute, wrote, “Make no mistake – the so-called Equality Act is nothing but a thinly veiled attempt to finish off religious liberty in America once and for all, which ought to be plainly obvious based upon a cursory reading of the First Amendment.” The proposal, H.R. 5 and S. 788, would...

Equality is a central value that unites us as Americans, and is enshrined in our nation’s legal motto, “Equal justice under law.” It is egregious, then, to misuse that term, to use it to divide us and further inequality. But that’s what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has done in naming her new proposal the “Equality Act.” Far from advancing equality, the bill would rob Americans of some of their most cherished liberties. The Equality Act would add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” as protected classes under federal civil rights law. But whereas the original Civil Rights Act of 1964 furthered...

On March 13, House and Senate Democrats introduced H.R. 5, the Equality Act, a proposal to expand protections in the 1964 Civil Rights Act to people based on their sex, sexual preference or gender identity. The sponsor of the bill, Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), who is openly gay, said conservatives would "use fear” to stop the legislation and asserted, “we cannot allow claims of religious freedom to be used to discriminate against an LGBT individual.” At a Capitol Hill press conference alongside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Cicilline said, “We know that in...
