A New York lawyer who went on a rant targeting Spanish-speaking restaurant workers is reportedly being kicked out of his office space. The New York Post reported Thursday that Corporate Suites, the company that operates the business center in which attorney Aaron Schlossberg leases office space, has terminated its agreement with him. "His actions are just not consistent with our community and rules and regulations," the company's president, Hayim Grant, told the Post. "It’s totally contrary to everything we believe in as a company and personally." A BuzzFeed News reporter confirmed that Corporate Suites has ended its agreement with Schlossberg....

What are we trying to do? We are building mobile-friendly tools to help inform vulnerable immigrants of the risks they may face in their neighborhood or workplace, as well as enable legal aid groups, community organizations, and activists to mobilize rapidly to protect immigrant communities. • Under Trump Proposal, Lawful Immigrants Might Be Inclined To Shun Health Benefits

The Trump administration is considering a policy change that might discourage immigrants who are seeking permanent residency from using government-supported health care, a scenario that is alarming some doctors, hospitals and patient advocates. Under the proposed plan, a lawful immigrant holding a visa could be passed over for getting permanent residency — a green card — if they use Medicaid, a subsidized Obamacare plan, food stamps, tax credits or a list of other non-cash government benefits, according to a draft of the plan published by The Washington Post. Even the use of such benefits by a child who is a...

Seriously, if the law forces us to let them in - which is happening as we speak - why are we talking about "The Wall"? I suddenly realize today that the wall will be a big waste of money if we still have to let them in to apply for asylum. They are in whoever they are - no vetting possible. Period. And then we feed them - welfare - food stamps - free housing - free healthcare - free schools ... and here we go again. Or am I missing something?

Organization says mixing immigration and terrorism harms MuslimsTwo anti-Trump organizations filed a lawsuit Monday arguing that a government report earlier this year linking immigrants to most of the country’s terrorism cases since 2001 is so misleading that it violates federal law. The request seeks to recruit federal judges to police the accuracy of the administration, in what — if it’s successful — could become a model for anti-Trump groups to push back on a president they see as having a tenuous connection to the truth. The January report concluded that 73 percent of the 549 people convicted of international terrorism...

In 1996, right after voters in California banned affirmative action in employment and college admissions, minority student enrollment at two and four-year institutions plummeted. What has happened since though, is pretty remarkable. Of the 2.8 million students attending college in California today, two out of three come from racially and ethnically diverse populations. The most eye-popping increase in enrollment has been among Latinos. They now make up 43 percent of all college students in California. Twenty-six percent are white, followed by Asian and Pacific Islanders at 16 percent and African Americans at 6 percent. Business, education and civil rights groups...

An army of a thousand migrants from Central America are marching through Mexico to the US where they hope to get in by any means - legal or not. The massive flood of migrants hail mostly from Honduras, where the country has become rife with gang violence and political unrest. The journey began on Sunday March 25 when 1,200 men, women and children gathered together to cross immigration checkpoints with a organization called Pueblos Sin Fronteras, meaning People Without Borders, according to BuzzFeed News. And the number is only growing as migrants walk to the border in 90-degree heat, sleep on the floor of town...
  • Will Germany Still Belong To Germans In The Near-Future?

The speed with which the German population is shrinking seems to be even too much for the statisticians of Destatis, the official German bureau of statistics, who posit that by 2060, with a zero level of net immigration, the German population will have declined to 60.2 million. However, our research team has found out that this number is far too optimistic: in 40 years Germany will have a population of 52.6 million people, a considerable 34% drop from the current 81 million inhabitants, and by the end of the century the native German population, the indigenous people without a migration...
  • As Trump Targets Immigrants, Elderly Brace To Lose Caregivers

People living with disabilities, serious illness and the frailty of old age are bracing to lose caregivers due to changes in federal immigration policy. About 59,000 Haitians live in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), a humanitarian program that gave them permission to work and live here after the January 2010 earthquake devastated their country. Many work in health care, often in grueling, low-wage jobs as nursing assistants or home health aides. Now these workers’ days are numbered: The Trump administration decided to end TPS for Haitians. In Boston, the city with the third-highest Haitian population, the decision has...
  • Democrats show little willingness to fight GOP ahead of spending deadline

    Washington Post ^ | March 12, 2018 | Mike DeBonis
For months, Democrats promised to use their leverage on government spending to protect young immigrants at risk for deportation after President Trump canceled the program. More recently, they have demanded Congress pass universal background checks for gun buyers in the wake of another deadly school shooting. Now, with Congress less than two weeks from a funding deadline, Democrats are showing little willingness to corner Republicans on those issues. Their lack of appetite to provoke another showdown represents a shift after two previous fights resulted in brief government shutdowns and risks alienating the party’s liberal base crucial in midterm elections. But...

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf received over 1,000 “angry calls” in protest against her decision last weekend to warn illegal aliens of an impending raid by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. Schaaf — who told the Washington Post, “I definitely consider myself part of the resistance” — angered ICE officials, who made 232 arrests over several days but said that 800 illegal aliens evaded arrest due to her warning. Many of the illegal aliens targeted in the raid already had criminal convictions, according to ICE officials. The East Bay Times reports: The rough, subjective tally, as of Friday afternoon?...

Primetime Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson used a segment during his show Friday night to focus on a recent report that rated California last in terms of quality of life among the 50 US states. "How do you take a place that was as world famous as Eden and in 50 years, make it the worst place in America?" Carlson asked his guest, radio talk show host Ethan Bearman. When Bearman suggested that overpopulation might be one of the reasons for California's poor quality of life, Carlson interjected. "Hold on, where do the majority in the past 30 years —...

It is becoming a hugely popular sound bite used by politicos and pundits to state that “’X’ was built on the backs of immigrants.” We’ve heard it about America; we’ve heard it about the UK. But is it really true? And if so, what are the implications? First let’s examine what this somewhat vague statement could mean or imply: It means that the actual work of building “X” was physically done by immigrants. It means that the wealth produced by immigrant labor for “the elite” was used to produce or build “X.” It implies that if immigrants hadn’t been forced...

Immigrants can be held by U.S. immigration officials indefinitely without receiving bond hearings, even if they have permanent legal status or are seeking asylum, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday. In a 5-3 ruling Tuesday, with Justice Elena Kagan recusing, the court ruled that immigrants do not have the right to periodic bond hearings. The ruling is a defeat for immigration advocates, who argued that immigrants should not be held for more than six months at a time without such a hearing. The Supreme Court ruling follows a Trump administration appeal of a ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals...

More than 100,000 noncitizens are registered to vote in Pennsylvania alone, according to testimony submitted Monday in a lawsuit demanding the state come clean about the extent of its problems. The Public Interest Legal Foundation, which has identified similar noncitizen voting problems in studies of Virginia and New Jersey, said Pennsylvania officials have admitted noncitizens have been registering and voting in the state “for decades.” But state officials have stonewalled PILF requests for access to the data that could expose the problem, the group says in a lawsuit filed in federal court in Harrisburg. “For months, Pennsylvania bureaucrats have concealed...
