  • Public Support For Mueller Investigation Waning

    07/23/2018 9:31:21 AM PDT · by blam · 11 replies
Americans are losing support for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. Mueller oversees the investigation into Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, and he also examines whether the Russian government worked with Trump during the election. The special counsel investigation began when President Trump fired former FBI director James Comey. Mueller’s inquiry has been going on for over a year now. At the start of the investigation, almost three-quarters of Americans believed the Russia investigation should continue. Now, that same support is down to a near even split: 52 support-45 against.

Justice Department documents released on Friday confirm that the DOJ attorney known as Robert Mueller’s “pit bull” arranged a meeting with journalists in April 2017 to discuss an investigation into Paul Manafort. The documents show that Andrew Weissmann arranged a meeting with DOJ and FBI officials and four Associated Press reporters on April 11, 2017, just over a month before Mueller was appointed special counsel.Manafort’s lawyers obtained the documents on June 29 and revealed them in a briefing filed in federal court in Virginia. The attorneys are pushing for a hearing into what they say are possible leaks of secret grand...

I have known Jeff Sessions for a long time. In 1994, he was running for Alabama attorney general, and I was running for the congressional seat presently occupied by Mo Brooks. Jeff and I, then, were on the same GOP ticket in my congressional district, and we showed up at times on the same stump. He won, and I lost. Out of 50,000 votes cast in the primary, I came up 23 votes short.

This is one of those little snippets of information, buried in the swamp and avoided by the media, that seems small and disingenuous unless you know the corrupt record of the Senate Intelligence Committee. According to Wall Street Journalist Byron Tau, the Senate Intel Committee unanimously voted today to release documents to the DOJ “in connection with a pending investigation arising out of the unauthorized disclosure of information.“:

The Trump-Russia investigation did not originate with Carter Page or George Papadopoulos. It originated with the Obama administration. Exactly when is the “late Spring”? Of all the questions that have been asked about what we’ve called the “Origination Story” of the Trump-Russia investigation, that may be the most important one. It may be the one that tells us when the Obama administration first formed the Trump-Russia “collusion” narrative. See, it has always been suspicious that the anonymous current and former government officials who leak classified information to their media friends have been unable to coordinate their spin on the start...

It was called “Crossfire Hurricane,” the FBI counterintelligence operation that targeted Trump figures as part of the investigation into possible campaign ties to Russia. It was a poignant choice of a Rolling Stones song, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” that describes a man “born in a crossfire hurricane” who “howled at the morning driving rain.” It could be an apt description of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. After a year of media denials of his claims of surveillance targeting his campaign, Trump can legitimately claim some vindication. Indeed, with his rising poll numbers, the president must feel, in the words of the song,...

A federal judge lost his temper on Friday during a Manafort hearing and accused special counsel Robert Mueller’s team of prosecutors of using the case just as a pretext for trying to oust Donald Trump from office. District Judge T.S. Ellis told Mueller’s prosecutor Michael Dreeben: “You don’t really care about Mr. Manafort’s bank fraud”, arguing that Mueller’s team is only interested in the President’s impeachment or prosecution. Judge T.S. Ellis is a Ronald Reagan appointee and during the Friday hearing, he ordered the US government to disclose the Rosenstein memo full monty, i.e. unredacted, while stating that: “We don’t...

Charges against Trump are to be brought, this is the arena, this is the forum, where the battle should be fought and the fate and future of the Trump presidency decided. The goal of Mueller's prosecutors is to take down Trump on the cheap. If they can get him behind closed doors and make him respond in detail to questions -- to which they already know the answers -- any misstep by Trump could be converted into a perjury charge. Trump has to score 100 on a test to which Mueller's team has all the answers in advance while...

Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a report detailing four acts of potential obstruction by Trump. Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly about to close his obstruction probe and is preparing to report on at least four “findings” on Trump’s attempts to obstruct justice. According to NBC News, the four areas of potential obstruction include the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, Trump’s role in drafting a misleading statement about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, Trump’s role in pressuring Attorney General Jeff Sessions not to recuse himself from the Russia probe, and the...

A London-based lawyer was ordered to serve 30 days in prison after a federal judge Tuesday handed down the first sentence in special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Alex van der Zwaan, 33, a son-in-law of a prominent Russian-based banker, pleaded guilty Feb. 20 to lying to the FBI about his contacts in September and October of 2016 with a business associate of onetime Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and with Manafort’s deputy, former Trump aide Rick Gates. Prosecutors said van der Zwaan also destroyed emails the special counsel had...

(snip) --- What has become increasingly visible is the largest political scandal in the history of U.S. government. A political conspiracy at the highest levels of the prior administration and across multiple agencies within the U.S. intelligence apparatus. The scale of corruption being exposed is astounding. The investigative effort to unravel and bring justice is almost overwhelming. It is also very likely the issues surrounding Andrew McCabe are only just beginning.
