Cameras rolled as suspect Jared Loughner allegedly fired all 31 bullets in the clip of his Glock, plus another round that was already in the chamber, at a supermarket in Tucson, Ariz., on Jan. 8. State Comptroller Alan Hevesi publicly apologized Thursday for a “beyond dumb” remark about “putting a bullet between the president’s eyes.” Hevesi hastily called a mea culpa press conference hours after putting his foot in his mouth at the Queens College commencement. The Queens College media relations office said it had videotaped the commencement but could not immediately provide a copy of the tape or a transcript. On Monday, Ross Douthat defended Sarah Palin in his op-ed “Scenes from a Marriage.” Sure, he took the position that the media ought to give up on Palin and get back to normal productive coverage of normal productive politicians. Today Rush Limbaugh wanted to make it perfectly clear that anyone thinking political rhetoric in the 1980’s was more civil than it is today doesn’t remember the Reagan era very well. Rush claimed the “hatred for Ronald Reagan was universal in the Democrat party and throughout the media” and that the discourse was just as vitriolic with Reagan being directly blamed for the spread of AIDS, homelessness and every other bad thing imaginable. Tucson, Arizona -- Arizona shooting victim James Eric Fuller sent his apologies Monday for telling a Tea Party leader, "you are dead." Dorothy DeRuyter, a companion of Fuller's, provided CNN with a statement. "I would like to tender my sincerest apologies to Mr. (Trent) Humphries for my misplaced outrage on Saturday at the St. Odelia's town meeting," Fuller said in the statement. The massacre in Tucson was a horrendous tragedy. Everyone in the country, of every ideological stripe, should have been allowed to mourn the victims’ deaths and injuries without the imposition of having to defend people who had nothing at all to do with it. Prosecutors have formally charged a victim of last week's Arizona shooting rampage with threatening a Tucson leader of the Tea Party political movement during the taping of an ABC News town hall-style television program. James Eric Fuller, 63, who was taking part in the televised forum, was involuntarily committed for psychiatric evaluation on Saturday after he grew agitated, stood up to snap a picture of Tucson Tea Party founder Trent Humphries and shouted, "You're dead," police said.
