The family of missing student Riley Strain says it has been shown unreleased surveillance video that captured him walking fast or “jogging” in the opposite direction of his hotel. Chris Whiteid, Strain’s stepfather, and Chris Dingman, a friend acting as the family spokesman, revealed that Metro Nashville Police on Sunday showed them the last known video of the University of Missouri student from the night of his disappearance. “We got to see him walking,” Whiteid told NewsNation in an interview that aired Thursday. “We got to see him kind of at a fast pace walk, almost a jog. And it...

Sometimes, certain things can become very annoying. And here is one, that likely only male members of FR might think of and surely (or at least very, VERY hopefully!) only our guys have experienced: Sweatpants / running pants / jogging pants can be handy and quite comfy, sweatpants in cool weather especially so. BUT, the darn things almost never have some sort of fly, as in a zippered or buttoned or "snapped" (securely!) fly. This can be a bit of a, well, "pain", or at least an inconvenience, especially if the waist is a bit tight, and, well, I won't...

U.S. — A new study has found that everyone at the gym is, in fact, watching you and laughing at your little sissy dumbbells. "Our study concluded that the feeling you get of being watched at the gym is because everyone is snickering at how weak you are," said lead researcher Dr. Graham Hadwin. "People are actually mocking you so much more than you ever thought possible." Men who lift weights have long sensed that all the other gym-goers were secretly laughing at their pathetic muscles and terrible form. "Just as I suspected," said local man Dan McMillan, upon hearing...

ST. LOUIS, MO — After a brisk winter jog today, local man Donald Vance decided that perhaps obesity isn't so bad after all. "My diabetes meds taste pretty good, come to think of it," said Mr. Vance, doubled over in agony. "Love handles are just more of me to love!" Mr. Vance had set out for the morning jog with high hopes, having bought thermal workout shirts and leggings. "I felt great for about fifteen seconds. I was like Rocky Balboa, training in Russia," said Mr. Vance. "Then my lungs started hurting, my eyes watered up, my hands went numb,...

Conceivably, you also could cram all of your exercise into long Saturday and Sunday workouts. In a 2017 study by Dr. Stamatakis and colleagues, people who reported exercising almost entirely on weekends were less likely to die prematurely than those who said they rarely exercised at all. But being a weekend warrior has drawbacks. “It is certainly not ideal to spend the workweek totally sedentary and then try to compensate” over the weekend, Dr. Stamatakis said. You miss many of the health benefits of regular exercise, such as improved blood-sugar control and better moods, on the days you do not...

The father and son who chased Ahmaud Arbery and shot him in February 2020 will die in prison after being sentenced to life without parole on Friday. Travis and Gregory McMichael were both sentenced to life without parole, while their neighbor William Roddie Bryan, 52, - who filmed the murder - will be eligible for parole. Judge Timothy R. Walmsley did not specify how long he would have to spend in prison - prosecutors asked that he spend at least 15 years behind bars. Typically, the minimum in Georgia is 30 years.

Newly released police bodycam video shows Georgia slay victim Ahmaud Arbery being handcuffed and arrested for shoplifting in 2017. The video, dated Dec. 1, 2017, shows Arbery and three teenagers being confronted by police in the parking lot of a Walmart shopping center, according to the footage posted on YouTube on Tuesday. “Tell me about the TV,” a police officer asks. “TV? What? We don’t have any TV,” Arbery, wearing shorts and a parka, responds. “What about the 65-inch TV?” the cop says. “Sixty-five inch TV?” Arbery says. “Do me a favor,” the cop replies. “All of you take a...

Black runners make exhaustive mental checklists, are confronted by suspicious neighbors and fear for their lives when they go out to log miles. We asked readers to share their experiences of “running while black.” Here is a selection of those submissions, led by an essay from Kurt Streeter, one of our writers. Responses have been edited for clarity and length. SEATTLE — Our jog was just beginning when my young son asked the question. “Dad, today can we go through my favorite neighborhood?” During the pandemic, we’ve made a habit of running together in the early evening. We course down...

The Georgia man who filmed the shooting death of unarmed black jogger Ahmaud Arbery says he’s “not proud” he did so — but he hopes it “helps in the end.” William “Roddie” Bryan, whose cell phone footage of the Feb. 23 incident sparked national outrage, told Good Morning America he has “tons of regrets” over the incident. “Yeah, I wish I hadn’t been there,” Bryan told the ABC-TV show Tuesday.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – A quick acting police officer in Brunswick stopped a teenager with a loaded gun from entering a high school basketball game Tuesday night. Police arrested 19-year-old Ahmaud Marquez Avery (pictured below), who is not a student at Brunswick. "The man ran through the parking lot. I tried to get him to stop as well. He would not stop for us," said Glynn County Schools Chief of Police, Rod Ellis. "We ended up chasing him to the back of the school were other officers helped us apprehend him." Ellis said the .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun slipped out of the...

A self-proclaimed "vegan runner" from Berkeley, California received backlash on Saturday after asking neighbors to close their windows when cooking meat because the smells were 'overpowering and offensive.' The rant was posted to @BestNextDoor -- an account that houses neighborhood drama -- which showed the runner had requested nearby residents only barbeque vegetables because it's "always hard for me this time of year when the weather starts warming up." "Several nights a week I'm out running around dinnertime and when people have their windows open I can smell what they are cooking," the request said. "I've noticed a sharp uptick...

Big cats are dangerous predators. They usually attack from ambush, without warning, often from behind. That happened to a runner in Colorado. But the runner was not listening to music on earbuds or headphones. He heard something. He started to turn around. He saw the lion launching itself at him. Here is the initial report from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. From state.co.us: LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers, working with Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, are investigating a mountain lion attack on a trail runner using the West Ridge Trail at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space...
