Exclusive Special Report by Mike Vanderboegh and David Codrea The source reporting Special Agent in Charge of ATF's Tampa Field Division Virginia O'Brien "ran a gun-running investigation that was walking guns to Honduras using the techniques and tactics identical to Fast and Furious" contacted these correspondents again this evening with this follow-up report: O'Brien is in full meltdown. She ordered supervisors from around the Division to report immediately to division offices and to plan on working through the entire weekend on the coverup. Her partner in the bungle was ASAC Scott McCampbell. At one point the case was ready to...

A fighter jet scrambled to intercept a plane flying towards Camp David on Saturday. The North American Aerospace Defense Command said one of its F-15 fighters was dispatched when a civilian airplane was detected flying towards Camp David airspace in Maryland. The president is spending his holiday weekend there with his family. The intruding aircraft was called a two-seat general aviation craft. The plane was out of radio communication and six miles away from Camp David when the F-15 headed it off.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House said Monday that a "significant" deal with Republicans on cutting government spending and raising the nation's debt limit is still possible, even as the administration hardened its stance on the need for increased tax revenue to be part of any agreement. President Barack Obama made his first direct foray into the deficit negotiations Monday. He met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the Oval Office for about 30 minutes Monday morning, and planned to meet with Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell in the early evening. White House spokesman Jay Carney said Obama's meeting with...

There’s been a fair amount of – how shall I put it? – sucking up to President Barack Obama over the past week for his decision to send in the US Navy SEALs to kill Osama bin Laden. Certainly, it was a bold gamble that paid off richly and if it hadn’t it could have crippled his presidency. But rather than let Obama’s actions speak for themselves, his aides and allies have gone into overdrive and “gutsy” has become the word of the week. As in: When President Obama was faced with the opportunity to act upon this, the president...

Now that Donald Trump appears on the verge of launching a presidential campaign, it is worth reflecting on the meaning of this low moment in American political history. Trump is a clown and a buffoon, and the odds of him winning even one Republican caucus or primary appear slim. But there is no denying that Trump has managed to tap into something genuinely worrisome in American politics. Democrats may be tempted to take pleasure in the fact that Trump will likely push the GOP presidential field to the right, and thereby help Obama in 2012. But this would be sheer...

The bipartisan deal struck Friday falls short of the House Republican campaign pledge to cut $100 billion in fiscal 2011 spending. The pact cuts $78.5 billion when compared to President Obama's fiscal 2011 budget request, which was never enacted. The accord cuts $39 billion in actual spending, $22 billion less than bill the House passed in February. In a brief interview, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Hill the agreement was "as good a deal as we could get." Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chairman of the Republican Study Committee, said he expects "significant" opposition from conservatives, both to the short-term...

I just got word of the details from today's meeting with Donald Trump and several people involved in the "birther" movement. Gary from Give Us Liberty has provided a quick summary of what went on at the meeting... We just heard from our fellow patriot who attended the Trump meeting. "IT COULD NOT HAVE GONE BETTER!" Trump was fully engaged and asked questions. On issues that he was unclear he asked the various members of the Arizona delegation to do get the information and documentation to him as soon as possible. The meeting lasted 30 minutes. There were many media...

Like most people, I had discarded the issue about President Obama's birth certificate long ago as without merit. Recently, though, possible Republican presidential contender Donald Trump has renewed public interest in the matter, and so I decided to take a second look. While Trump is mistaken in some particulars, to my surprise, the matter turns out to be more complicated than I originally thought. Obama defenders say that the he did release his birth certificate, making the entire argument moot. That is true ... sort of. In June 2008, the Obama campaign released of a "certification of live birth," which...

"This problem came to light because of the kind of transparency that I have worked for, for 30 years in government. So, I think I'll keep doing my job and working very hard as I have always done on holding government open to the sunlight of public inspection and making sure that if that are mistakes being made by people like me that the public knows about it and that people are held accountable," Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) said to reporters on a conference call on Wednesday. "Voters will have to decide whether this big, serious, sloppy mistake is enough...

As oil prices creep back above $100 a barrel, Senate Democrats are dusting off a plan first unveiled in 2008 to take away federal leases from oil companies that rent federal land but don’t use it for drilling and exploration. The revived bill, which is co-sponsored by Sens. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, Bill Nelson of Florida and Charles Schumer of New York, would charge oil companies an extra fee on every acre they are not using for energy production and would force companies to show that they are actively seeking energy sources in the area.

The Obama Administration's penchant for ignoring the US Constitution is, once again, on display. On several occasions here at IntellectualConservative, both as a poster to commentary and as an author of said commentary I have questioned the President's allegiance to both the rule of law and the US Constitution. Just last week, the latest intentional disregard of that document was again on display for all to see. March 17th of 2011, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1973 demanding an immediate cease fire in Libya. The resolution also demanded that Col. Qadhafi relinquish all gains his Army had earned since...

Would you believe me if I told you that while in Milan last weekend, I'd been to La Scala for the world premiere of a new opera by George W. Bush? And would you ever again take me seriously if I published a review of Bush's new opera in which I wrote that "...through this work, so infused with the passion of Carmen, the musicality of La Boheme and the drama of Tosca, our forty-third president takes his place as the most gifted composer in the history of American politics"? Of course not. No one, not even that former-Bush-White-House-press-secretary blonde...

Comedian Jay Leno on Wednesday wished President Obama a Happy Birthday by making fun of him in the opening monologue of NBC's "Tonight Show." "We want to start off by saying Happy Birthday to President Barack Obama," Leno teased. "He is 49, which is eight points higher than his approval rating." JAY LENO: Welcome to the "Tonight Show," and we want to start off by saying Happy Birthday to President Barack Obama. He is... LENO: He is 49, which is eight points higher than his approval rating.
