A fighter jet scrambled to intercept a plane flying towards Camp David on Saturday.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command said one of its F-15 fighters was dispatched when a civilian airplane was detected flying towards Camp David airspace in Maryland. The president is spending his holiday weekend there with his family.
The intruding aircraft was called a two-seat general aviation craft. The plane was out of radio communication and six miles away from Camp David when the F-15 headed it off.

Two seat general aviation craft. So, they probably just scared the pants off some poor guy in his 152.
We send fighter jets to intercept small planes that get too close to the emperor but the little people just have to be at the mercy of the flood across the border.
I really don’t mind that the president gets serious protection but it pisses me off that we the people can’t even repel the invasion that impacts us directly.
F-15 protecting a worthless Rodent, from Kenya no less!
About 12-14 years ago my brother and I were flying in his Cessna 172 from Allentown, PA to Winchester, VA. Our route took us over Harper’s Ferry and quite close to the restricted airspace around Camp David, which is well marked on aviation maps and not all that large a circle.
Nobody got excited about it. Probably because Slick didn’t happen to be there at the time. I think that was the same weekend as the huge Promise Keepers rally in DC if anyone happens to remember when that was. It was September.
Yep. There’s one on the field here that I fuel just about every day that I work.
As I recall identifying the PZ boundries for Camp David isn’t the easiest thing to do from a light aircraft. At least one instrument approach passes quite near it. No doubt even more rules have been promulgated by now.
But my experience was back when a light aircraft could just “drop in” at Washington National, which I did several times for various reasons. >PS
Well I was close. It was actually October of 1997.

Keep that poor guy out of the jet wash. LOL!
Don’t feel guilty, they are sworn to protect us, and do not. You do your job, they did not do their job.
Dear leader rescued from yet another right-wing extremist coup attempt! film at 11

So close...so close, and yet so far away...
Got my Private Pilot ticket in one much like that. The one I trained in had fairings on the wheels, but nothing else different that I can see. Curious about the number on the fuselage. I haven’t been active for a few years but all U.S. planes used to have numbers beginning with N.
This happened to a cousin of mine and his son. It was in Texas and was just flying, having a good time not realizing he was moving too close to W’s ranch. The intercept didn’t scare him since he’d been an AF fighter pilot.
He probably should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque.
It should not make much difference right now since nobody in the White House, Congress or Senate has left town for their summer break. Maybe the idiot in the White House took another vacation. He needs to go on a permanent one.
