APPLETON, Wis. - An Appleton native is the creator of the iconic "blue fist" graphic in the shape of Wisconsin used in spring protests at the state Capitol. Graphic artist Carrie Worthen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She now lives and works in Los Angeles, but she kept in touch with members of the AFL-CIO and, in February, the union asked her to take the germ of the fist idea and make it stand out. "To me it needed to be bold and clear and loud and simple," Worthen told Wisconsin Public Radio.

Spirit Lake Tribal Council representatives announced this morning that legal action has been taken against the NCAA over the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. According to attorney Reed Soderstrom, representing the Committee of Understanding and Respect, and Archie Fool Bear, individually and on behalf of 1,004 petitioners from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, the lawsuit against the NCAA was filed in response to their ruling on the nickname and subsequent sanctions. The lawsuit involves 12 counts, including copyright infringement, lack of jurisdiction and “intentional infliction of emotional distress on the Sioux people.”

People ask why would the Democrats want to change their logo when it has been agreed for some time now that it worked way better than what the GOP had going for it. Well I think I figured it out. Working in marketing as a graphic artist I understand that messaging is extremely important. The vehicle for brand recognition and clarity comes first through an organization's logo...so something really did need to be done, because the Dems were not getting their message across and... does in fact get the job done much better than....
