Nicknamed the Unicorn Killer because his last name means "one horn" in German, Ira Einhorn jumped bail and evaded arrest for 23 years, but eventually the "she went to the neighborhood co-op to buy some tofu and sprouts and never returned" story fell apart. Ira Einhorn was on stage hosting the first Earth Day event at the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970. Seven years later, police raided his closet and found the "composted" body of his ex-girlfriend inside a trunk... After 23 years, he was finally extradited to the United States from France and put on trial....

So, how will Freepers be celebrating Earth Day 2017? Personally, I will be clearing an area in the backyard to set up for a compost pile and organic vegetable garden. But first, I need to burn the tires that are there; and I'm thinking that my used motor oil will make an excellent accelerant.

More and more Americans are opting out of Earth Day in favor of a holiday that offers a chance to fight back against Marxism and political correctness. The holiday, which is called “Holly Maddux Day,” is named after the young woman murdered by Ira Einhorn, a 1960s antiwar activist. Einhorn, who was a friend of Jerry Rubin and Abby Hoffman, is regarded by many as the founder of Earth Day. Einhorn emceed the first Earth Day celebration in Philadelphia in April 1970, at which Sen. Edmund Muskie gave the highlight address. Einhorn, an advocate of free love and drug use,...

Why not be positive, for once? Instead of blaming carbon “criminals,” maybe Earth Day should celebrate carbon heroes. Here are the 10 countries with the lowest CO2 emissions per capita, according to the World Bank.

No player has ever been elected unanimously to the Hall of Fame and four-time Cy Young winner Greg Maddux, the most obvious of the many deserving candidates on this year’s ballot, won’t be the first. We now know that for sure thanks to MLB.com’s commendable tradition of posting its writers’ ballots the day before the results are announced. There are 17 MLB.com writers who have been members of the Baseball Writers Association of America for 10 or more years and thus are eligible to vote for the Hall of Fame. Sixteen of them voted for Maddux. Dodgers beat reporter Ken...

MESA, Ariz. -- The chase has ended. Greg Maddux has made up his mind and will return to the Cubs for a second chance at rectifying old wrongs. While the Cubs had not made an official announcement Tuesday night, word leaked out in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution story that was posted on the Internet that Maddux was on the verge of announcing he has decided to accept the Cubs' two-year contract offer, believed to be worth close to $15 million. The Journal-Constitution cited a source close to the negotiations. Considering Maddux spent his last 11 seasons in a Braves uniform, it's...
