  • As the 9th Circuit Takes Another Look at California's 10-Round Magazine Limit, It Should Demand More Than Speculation From the Law's Defenders

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit yesterday vacated a 2020 decision that blocked California's ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. A federal judge in 2019 concluded that the law, which prohibits possession as well as manufacture and sale, was inconsistent with the Second Amendment. Last year a three-judge 9th Circuit panel agreed. Now the full court will rehear Duncan v. Becerra, raising the possibility that the ban will be upheld after all. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, the defendant in the lawsuit, welcomed that development. "Large-capacity magazines have been used in many horrific mass...

Veteran Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie has joined a long list of officials in blasting a recent report in the Atlantic that claimed Trump has repeatedly made disparaging remarks about the US war dead, calling them ‘suckers’ and ‘losers’. The rebuttals come as the article’s author, and the Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, has defended his decision to keep his sources anonymous and says he expects 'more information' to come out in the coming days to corroborate his story about Trump’s remarks. These are not people who are anonymous to me,’ Goldberg told CNN. ‘We all have to use anonymous sources especially...

Prominent conservative commentator Andrew Sullivan announced Tuesday that he will move on from New York magazine at week’s end - on the heels of Bari Weiss’ abrupt resignation from the New York Times’ opinion section. “This will be my last week at New York Magazine,” wrote Sullivan in the first of a series of tweets blasted out Tuesday afternoon. “I’m sad because the editors I worked with there are among the finest in the country, and I am immensely grateful to them for vastly improving my work,” he continued in the thread. “I have no beef with my colleagues, many...

The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is always one of the magazine’s most controversial. SI tackles those claims head-on by publishing complaints, allowing subscribers to skip it and in recent years moving toward the inclusion of female athletes to show bodies come in all (incredible) sizes. Four soccer members of the United States Women’s National Team posed for the 2019 swimsuit issue, including veteran Megan Rapinoe, who is the first openly gay woman to appear in the swimsuit edition.

You may have to go all the way back to the late 20th century to recall an article in Harper’s magazine that was worth reading, but the current issue features an article from the controversial French novelist Michel Houellebecq that defends Donald Trump (“Donald Trump Is a Good President“) in ways that will drive just about everybody out of their minds But what’s most remarkable about the new American policies is certainly the country’s position on trade, and there Trump has been like a healthy breath of fresh air; you’ve really done well to elect a president with origins in...

Unconstitutional: Whenever we see the Left moving to implement a new rule or law governing the use, handling, or ownership of firearms we are reminded of the very simple language of the Second Amendment, which reads in full: A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Liberal and conservative scholars and lawmakers have debated the meaning of “militia” and whether or not the founders meant that the Second Amendment applied only to organized state military forces. But others have noted that based...

A federal appeals court upheld New Jersey’s magazine-capacity-limit laws, arguing 2-1 that three 10-round magazines are just as good as two 15-rounders. They said that a magazine-capacity limit does not present a burden to self-defense. New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal favored the decision to limit gun owners to 10-round magazines. (Photo: Grewal) Previously New Jersey residents had a magazine-capacity limit of 15 rounds, due to a law passed in 1990. The new law restricts gun owners to 10 rounds and they must modify, destroy or register any magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. The law makes an...

The fate of The Weekly Standard, the conservative magazine that has staked out a position as a publication on the right still critical of President Donald Trump, is uncertain, Editor-in-Chief Stephen Hayes told staff in a series of phone calls Tuesday, according to two people familiar with the matter. The magazine's precarious position comes after its leadership spent months searching for a buyer, the people told CNN. The people explained that The Weekly Standard's leadership had butted heads with MediaDC, the current publisher of the magazine, and that the two parties had agreed to allow Hayes to search for a...

The Christian publishers of an Australian bridal magazine are closing the publication after they were targeted over their choice not to feature same-sex weddings. White Magazine was started twelve years ago by Luke and Carla Burrell to celebrate love and commitment in marriage, rather than as a marketplace to sell products. The magazine was targeted by LGBTQ activists after it did not feature any same sex couples following the change in the law last year.

I need to find the best conservative magazine for my intentionally uninformed stupid leftist neighbor. He doesn't believe in computers or tv and only gets his news from TIME magazine. The sun rises and sets on his TIME rag. I've decided to subscribe to a mail/home delivery conservative magazine for him. Any ideas?

In November, 2016, California voters passed a referendum that banned the possession of magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds. The ban was immediately challenged in the courts. An injunction against enforcement of the ban was put in effect by a federal district court. The court challenge claims the ban violates the U.S. Constitution on several grounds, including the Second Amendment. The case is one of several where state and local governments contend that magazines of over 10 rounds fall outside of protection afforded by the Second Amendment. The State of California appealed the injunction to the...

Using their Alinsky tactics against them. I'm fed up. I am fed up with being called a NAZI. Dan Bongino https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQlw7Vbkva8&t=3087s gave a great show about this and why they are doing it. The Nazis did it to the Jews. Make them look like something less than human, so it's easier to do to them what was coming. The TIME magazine cover was the last straw. I have decided to resume the fight the only way I know how. I am a cartoonist, what can I do? "The political cartoonist is the biggest threat to a dictator, because he can...

19-year-old student, Yonsong Zhao, came to the United States from China on a student visa.  As of January, 2018, he had been in the country for seven months. As with many people, especially young men, he likes guns. In China, it is nearly impossible to access legal guns. Zhao set about learning what was necessary for him to acquire and legally fire guns in the United States. Given the complexity involved, I am amazed that Zhao appears to have found the various rules, and followed them rigorously.  It is well that he did. The authorities were watching him very...

Vogue magazine, the arbiter of fashion, couldn't get enough of Michelle Obama. The same has not been true of Melania Trump. The New York Post observes: Magazines are showing no love for Melania Trump. The internet was in a tizzy last week when actor James Woods pointed out via Twitter that the first lady hasn’t been a muse for the magazine industry since her husband, President Trump, took office. Woods tweeted: “If the Trumps were Democrats, Melania would be on every cover of every chic women’s magazine in the world every month.” The tweet, which was accompanied by an old...

Walmart is removing the sex-obsessed, pro-abortion women’s magazine “Cosmopolitan” from its checkout shelves. The retail chain announced the change this week after considering concerns raised by parents and conservative groups about the content of the magazine, USA Today reports. “While this was primarily a business decision, the concerns raised were heard,” Walmart spokesperson Meggan Kring said. “Cosmpolitan” often displays scantily clad women on its front covers, along with headlines promoting risky sexual behavior and other objectionable content. It also regularly advocates for abortion on demand. Inside its pages, Cosmo has criticized late-term abortion bans and justified eugenic abortions of disabled...

There are two certainties following nearly every mass shooting event: Cable news television will have its programming schedule set for the next 72 hours, and a significant number of gun control advocates will reveal they lack even a basic understanding of the items they wish to regulate. The first certainty is to be expected. After all, if it bleeds it leads. The second certainty is more remarkable. It’s remarkable that so many proponents of stricter regulations appear to be generally ignorant of not just the minutiae of firearms, but also the basics. It’s also remarkable that this ignorance continues unabated,...
  • 3 Irrefutable Truths The Walkout Kids Need To Hear, And Don’t

It’s time to speak out some hard truths to the children participating in the so-called “student-led” national walkout and the broader “school safety” movement. Let’s call it speaking truth to power, because there are some very powerful forces blocking most of these young people from hearing these truths — the traditional media, Hollywood and the rest of the culture movers, Democratic leaders, most school leaders and the big activist organizations using the children as pawns for their own agenda. First, despite all the hot air from the above groups of people, all Americans agree on a few things. First, students...
