An invitation to a local high school reunion has caused the fur to fly in Marin. The invite for a class reunion for Tamalpais High School class of 1980, contains images that are offensive-- or at the very least-- insensitive. The invitation in question has a graphic of the now-banned former school name and mascot, the Tamalpais High Indians. In addition, an old image of a flirty Indian maid is also pictured. The mascot was changed to the Red Tailed Hawks in 1990. The Pacific Sun's Nikki Silverstein mentioned the invite in her Hero and Zero column chastising the senders...

On March 7th, over 500 people attended Marin County's Tea Party meeting. Here is a video showing that hope is alive even in the most liberal bastion in California. Chuck De Vore is the conservative running for Senate in CA against two better known liberal opponents in the primary. I had trouble using Firefox on the video and had to use IE to view it. Might just be me.

Marin California has Conservatives. It may not be much but it’s a start. Marin County Ca. just north of San Francisco has its own Conservative group. They are the one responsible for the San Francisco Tea Parties and protest committees for both Obama and Sen. Boxer when they made appearances in the area. Information is spread through several websites including the Marin Conservative Forum http://www.meetup.com/Marin-Conservative-Forum/. You may want to join and leave your two cents worth on lively discussions. If you live in or around the Bay Area you may want to join this group to help turn the tide...

Rod Blagojevich is Sarah Palin? That's correct! According to Carol Marin, Chicago Sun-Times Columnist... Let's just say it. Rod Blagojevich is Sarah Palin. Rising stars and fresh faces, once upon a time. http://www.suntimes.com/news/marin/1773133,CST-EDT-carol16.article Rising stars, fresh faces, once upon a time? What fairy tale are you referring to? The last time a reality check was done, Rod Blagojevich was in a flaming tailspin ready to crash into Federal Court. The FBI had arrested him on what U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald called “a staggering level of corruption involving pay-to-play politics in Illinois' top office.” Sarah Palin was not impeached or forced...

When the Cox family of Novato unpacked from a weekend coast trip, they were initially humored by what looked like a small kitten that had sneaked in through a front door they had propped open as they brought bags inside. "My son J.D. said, 'Look, a kitten came in the house,'" said Kim Cox, recalling the events that occurred about noon Sunday. "We all thought it was a kitten, and he was wandering around the living room. But then it freaked out and hid underneath the couch." The Coxes, a self-described "dog family," then called friend Sue Hunt, who is...

When it comes to his daily takeout lunch, attorney Peter Stuart Buchanan is a man of strict routine. He likes the same salmon from the same restaurant, always grilled on one side. He likes light olive oil, no salt, no pepper. He likes generous portions of carrots and green beans, and prefers them extra steamed. And he likes four potatoes on the side. But when unforeseen factors complicate his routine, serious consequences can ensue. Buchanan, 73, was charged in Marin Superior Court this week on allegations he drove through a construction barricade outside his favorite restaurant in Mill Valley and...

Barack Obama isn't even president yet, but a community in Main is thinking about naming a middle school for him. By the beginning of the next school year, Marin City middle school students will have a new building to study in. The question is will the new school also have a new name? It's a debate because the current name is Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, and some aren't ready for that to change.

HEAVY-METAL superstar James Hetfield of the band Metallica has erected a metal fence on his property on a Terra Linda hilltop, closing off a popular trail and angering hikers, bikers and equestrians. Someone scrawled "SHAME DISGRACE" on the 300-foot-long, 8-to 10-foot-high corrugated metal silver fence adorned with barbed wire at its far edges. "Look at the barbed wire. This a serious fence," said hiker Tom McMillan of San Rafael, as he walked along the shiny behemoth late last week. The fence, at the end of a fire road in the Terra Linda-Sleepy Hollow Divide open space preserve, went up in...

FAIRFAX, Calif., Oct. 1, 2007 (KGO) - For all the big debates about the environment and global warming, there are small ones, as well. Consider the town of Fairfax in Marin County. Residents are looking hard at a proposal some say violates a basic right -- to wash your car in your front yard. It is the kind of environmental debate you're likely to find only in a mostly affluent community. One resident asks, "do you save the fish or wash your car?" It's the debate du jour in Marin County's Fairfax. There's a town council proposal to ban residents...

David Weinsoff, Fairfax city council member and environmental lawyer, wants the American and California flags to fly at half staff at town hall until either the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan end or a new president is inaugurated on January 20, 2009. He claims, according to today's Marin IJ, that his idea is not meant to be support or dissent for the war, but a reminder of the sacrifices of our military and their families. The City Council plans to discuss this item at their next meeting. In reality, his lame brained idea is nothing but an insult to our...

The Marin Alliance medical marijuana dispensary attracts patients from around the county (Light photo by Micah Maidenberg). A minty scent hangs in the air of the Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana’s Fairfax office, unmistakable to anyone who ever saw the Grateful Dead live or has walked down Haight-Ashbury Street. Reggae music plays softly over hidden speakers as Lynette Shaw, the proprietor of Marin’s sole marijuana dispensary, leads a tour of the office, a small facility with two couches up front and two offices in the rear. Posters on the wall show marijuana plants and a hand holding...

Marin Teen Turns Into Prom-Dressed Crime Fighter POSTED: 10:35 am PDT April 27, 2007 SAN FRANCISCO -- Superman might have his cape, but Marin Academy sophomore Erin Schrode has a prom dress, tiara and combat boots. San Francisco police were crediting Schrode with chasing down two thieves while wearing her prom dress, a tiara and combat boots after they allegedly stole a purse and laptop from her friends at a Union Square rally earlier this week. Schrode and her friends were part of "Project Prom" -- a teen rally for safe cosmetics that was being staged in the middle of...

This Saturday afternoon, citizens of San Rafael and Marin County have a golden opportunity to show support for enforcement of America's immigration laws. The Golden Gate Minutemen Project, as well as other local chapters, will rally in opposition to the City of San Rafael's stated refusal to enforce immigration law. The rally will be held at the corner of Second and Lindaro streets in San Rafael from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Though San Rafael City Officials say the town is not a "sanctuary city," the Mayor, Al Boro, told a crowd protesting the recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement sweeps, "The...

Canal district leader says enforcement violates civil rights - A community advocate in San Rafael voiced outrage Tuesday over the handling of federal immigration raids this month in which agents arrested dozens of people, in some cases arriving at homes before dawn and identifying themselves as police. "This is a huge civil rights issue," said Tom Wilson, executive director of the Canal Alliance, who called a press conference Tuesday evening in the city's largely immigrant Canal district where many of the raids were carried out. "This is a story of federal officers coming into people's homes without a search warrant,...

Elected officials in Marin County continue their attacks on Immigration & Customs Enforcement for apprehending illegal aliens during raids in the Canal area of San Rafael and Novato last week. In the process, many of these “leaders” are using the most extreme and outrageous language in their criticism of federal immigration officials. State Assemblyman Jared Huffman picked up the "terrorizing our community" mantra used by open borders advocates at a community rally on Monday at Pickeleed Park Community Center in San Rafael‘s Canal area. "I've just driven almost 100 miles from Sacramento to be with you. I would have driven...
