FLORENCE, S.C. – Former Vice President Joe Biden, a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 presidential race, was denied Holy Communion on Sunday morning at a Florence church. Father Robert E. Morey of Saint Anthony Catholic Church confirmed Monday afternoon that he had denied the presidential candidate Holy Communion because of his stance on abortion. Biden, a lifelong Catholic, had attended the church's 9 a.m. Mass. Communion is one of seven sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church. The others are baptism, reconciliation, confirmation, marriage, anointing of the sick and holy orders.

Can a candidate be a favorite and an underdog at the same time? Ordinarily the answer is no. But if your name is Joe Kennedy III anything is possible, even wresting the U. S. Senate seat from longtime Washington veteran Sen. Ed Markey. But despite the polls that put Kennedy ahead after his decision to challenge Markey in the September Democrat primary, it will not be as easy as it looks. Kennedy must articulate why Markey, a fellow progressive, should be ousted. He did not do that convincingly on Saturday when he made his candidacy official.

The KATRIN discovery stems from direct, high-precision measurements of how a rare type of electron-neutrino pair share energy. This approach is the same as neutrino mass experiments from the 1990s and early 2000s...both of which set the previous upper limit of the mass at 2 eV. The heart of the KATRIN experiment is the source that generates electron-neutrino pairs: gaseous tritium, a highly radioactive isotope of hydrogen. As the tritium nucleus undergoes radioactive decay, it emits a pair of particles: one electron and one neutrino, both sharing 18,560 eV of energy. KATRIN scientists cannot directly measure the neutrinos, but they...

SCITUATE — A minke whale carcass was found Monday afternoon in the surf at Humarock Beach, making for the fourth found in the region this summer. At the beach, New England Aquarium’s marine animal rescue team found the carcass of a 22-foot-long sub-adult. The whale is believed to have died within the last few days. The carcass had been significantly scavenged by sharks. A full necropsy couldn’t be performed because of the amount of tissue that had been eaten, but the good condition of the skin on the pectoral fins and back indicated that the whale had died recently. There...

A separate statement by the Enshi City police was originally posted on Chinese social media site Weibo but was later removed without explanation. The hashtag "school criminal case in Hubei" had gained 120 million views on Weibo as of Tuesday morning. Attacks on schoolchildren in China have happened before. In October, at least 14 children at a kindergarten in Chongqing were slashed by a woman with a kitchen knife. In April 2018, nine students were killed and others injured after a male suspect began attacking students in Shaanxi province. According to a statement from the local government, a 40-year-old man...

I regret to inform you that satanists are planning a blasphemous Black Mass in Ottawa (Canada) at a heavy metal bar called “The Koven” on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019. This new attack against God and the Holy Catholic Church -- billed as a first in Canadian history -- is described in these terms: "Satanic Unbaptism""Black Mass Ritual""Featuring Burlesque performances” Sign your protest now, right here. No words can describe how evil this is because every Black Mass is a direct sin of hatred against God. Typically -- in a satanic Black Mass -- the true Catholic Mass is twisted and...

BOSTON — A Massachusetts judge charged with helping an immigrant escape a federal agent waiting to arrest him will be paid while her legal battle plays out, the state’s highest court ruled Tuesday. Reversing course in a closely watched case that has showcased official resistance to the Trump administration’s tough immigration policy, the Supreme Judicial Court said Newton District Court Judge Shelley Joseph would resume collecting her annual salary of $181,000.

Third term, Charlie? How about fixing the second term first? Yet, If Gov. Charlie Baker wants an unprecedented third consecutive term as governor, as is the talk, he probably will get it. Despite the ongoing, systemic problems with the MBTA ( Massachusetts Bay Trauma Authority), the State Police overtime embezzlement scandal, and now suspended driver’s license disaster at the pathetically incompetent Registry of Motor Vehicles, nothing sticks to the man. I’m working on things, the governor says, and in the long run everything is going to work out just fine. So, trust me, he adds. And the people do, which...

[Catholic Caucus] US Bishops ask young Catholics why they stayed in Church. They respond it’s the Latin Mass June 13, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) asked young Catholics who haven’t left the faith what made them stay. While their answer may be surprising to many, it will not be to anyone familiar with the state of the Church today. First of all, the USCCB is to be commended for asking young people why they’ve stayed in the Church rather than left; too often Church leadership takes its cues on catechesis and evangelization from...

Eddie Markey just dodged a bullet, which only goes to show that it is better to be lucky than good. If Shannon Liss- Riordan of Brookline is Markey’s only opponent in the 2020 Democrat primary for the U. S. Senate, then he has little to worry about. He will have even less concern if a second or third Democrat jumps into the primary race seeking to knock him off. That would only further split the Democrat vote and guarantee Markey the nomination. And while there may be a serious Republican out there willing to take the veteran Congressman on in...

A group of heavily-armed men — riding on a motorcycle and in three cars — went on a shooting rampage at a bar in Brazil, killing at least 11 people on Sunday, according to officials. Seven men were said to have carried out the 4 p.m. attack, according to Brazilian news outlet G1, which cited Pará officials. Six women and five men were killed. Officials said almost all of them were shot in the head. ... The bar that they targeted is in a high crime area, which had to get police reinforcements earlier this year, according to G1.

[Catholic Caucus] German bishops back women refusing to go to Sunday mass to protest abuse crisis GERMANY, May 16, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – The German Bishops' Conference has surprisingly thrown its support behind a women’s strike run by feminists that calls on women to refuse to enter Catholic churches for one week, including on Sunday, to protest sex abuse in the priesthood. The women’s strike, called “Maria 2.0”, is taking place in Germany from May 11 until 18. It is organized by a group of women around the psychologist Andrea Voß-Frick from Münster, Diocese of Münster. Along with protesting against...

You could be forgiven if you thought that the media onslaught against conservatives the last few years would have an effect on how most of the country views the right. That media campaign - directed against Donald Trump but also against conservatives - has been unprecedented in its scope and intensity. Conservatives are routinely portrayed as racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-Muslim, and paranoid xenophobes. But Gallup found some remarkable conservative strength all across the country. Their latest survey shows that liberals outnumber conservatives in only 6 states and that there are 25 states where conservatives are polling above their national average....

Many facts once dismissed as conspiracy theories are shown to be historically accurate For Christmas I was given a copy of the newly translated biography of Annibale Bugnini, architect of the Novus Ordo Mass – and hero or éminence grise of the Council’s liturgical reforms, depending on your viewpoint. It is difficult not to tend towards the latter, though I don’t think the author intends it so. Startling things emerge: many facts once dismissed as conspiracy theories because they were originally reported by those who opposed some reforms are here held to be historically accurate, perhaps the most notorious being...

“Thank you for letting me use your party.” That is what RINO Gov. Charlie Baker should have written to new conservative Republican Party boss Jim Lyons. It would have been appropriate since Baker, a lifelong Republican with liberal tendencies, appears more comfortable these days as a would-be Democrat than as a member of a party that has been taken over by conservative Donald Trump supporters. Baker can be counted on as one of the original critics of the president, beginning even before the 2016 New Hampshire GOP primary and continuing to today
