  • Rush owes Ronald Reagan an apology

June 21, 2008 Over the past several days, I have gone through several emotions, confusion, disgust, disappointment, and finally anger. At first my confusion and disgust were aimed at the arrogance of our State Legislature. Now, I find anger has overtaken my disappointment for my Governor, Bobby Jindal. My anger also extends to the national media, which includes the press and conservative radio talk show host that have long touted the “savior of the Republican party’s future.” Since Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana has made the national news and exposed the corrupt and inept leadership in Baton Rouge. The impression the rest...

BREAKING NEWS: Obama's Butcher a Holocaust Denier CHICAGO, IL- Barack Obama's recent string of bad luck is about to get worse. After some digging, The New York Daily News has discovered that Herbert Polaski, butcher at the grocery store near Obama's Chicago home, has posted several anti-Semitic comments on the Internet and may have also attended a Holocaust deniers conference in 2002.

Today marks the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. The Bush Administration, its neoconservative allies, its congressional supporters, and the acquiescent mainstream media need to take this week as an opportunity for critical self-examination. It is time for them to face the fact that they have a problem, an addiction to this war. Here are just a few of the signs and examples: Defensiveness, temper tantrums, resentful behavior – i.e. the labeling of those who oppose the war as defeatists, unpatriotic, “blame America first” types, or saying that they don’t “support the troops” Unexplained moodiness or irritability – i.e....

Seven years ago George bush and the republicans gave a tax cut to the wealthy. We had a recesion and as far as Im concerned we never recovered. I was working as a telemarketeer and my husband was at an assembly plant. In 2001 my husband was laid off after his job was outsourced. Then I lost my job too. My husband now works at Target and I held a job at Burger King. A week ago my job was terminated after buisness wasn't so well. Now were in another recession and Bush wants yet another tax cut? If cutting...
  • As a Jew, I Say Israel is Wrong (As the Juwish Mod, I say ZOT!!!)

I know I'm going to catch hell for this, but it's time to say something. Israel is wrong. There aren't two sides to this anymore. I've heard all I want to hear from Israel. It's time to stop the attack on Hezbollah, withdraw back into Israel, stop firing bombs into Lebanon, and shut up for a while and let everyone else sort this out. It's not just Israel's problem. There are hundreds of millions of lives at stake in the Middle East, and this time not only has an Arab country, and that's what Hezbollah is, withstood Israel's attack, but...

According to CNET, the US Justice Department is giving the full Jack Abramoff to a bill sponsored by Sen Mike DeWine (R-OH) requiring all ISPs to build a dedicated info-structure for government eavesdropping. If this passes, yours, mine, and everybody’s Web surfing will be fair and legal game for Big Blowhard to peruse. What are its chances? 2006 is another election year soon to be tainted by Karl Rove’s with-us-or-against-us strategy. If he has his way by this fall, legislators who don’t support the Bush Adm’n’s newest national security measures may as well show up at campaign events wearing a...
  • Moderates-What Role If Any?

Please forgive me if I have transgressed in some way here. I am new and am just learning to navigate this interface. And I am not privvy to much of what has been discussed here. This stems from a mildly inflammatory exchange I had elsewhere about the Republican Party here in Illinois. A poster suggested that the moderates here were the cause of the current disarray, and that when "we" regain control again of the party then "we" will get people elected again. I found that most curious since the "we" he seems to be referring to never had control...

Warmer Arctic Waters Forcing Animals North By CLAYTON SANDELL March 9, 2006 — - The Bering Sea -- which lies just south of the Arctic Circle between Russia and Alaska -- is getting warmer, and the heat is already having a huge impact on marine wildlife there. Among the findings is a declining food supply for populations of walrus, gray whales and sea ducks in this northern sea. It appears that these animals now have to compete with fish populations that have pushed into their territory, said the study's lead author, Jacqueline Grebmeier of the University of Tennessee. Near-freezing water...

I sometimes recall the early months of 2003 with mixed feelings; I spent most of that late winter and early spring on the road. I like a few went to Baghdad prior to the current war there. Like many others, I warned of the many dangers that come from the folly of this war. Yet still many thought that a war would be good option. I wonder how many would see it as such now. I also wonder what will be said after I complete this little piece. There is a common saying in English it goes a little like...

I did it!!! For years I have been tying to post an article during normal freeping hours that nobody would comment on for over an hour. It is quite a challenge really. FR has a wide range of interests, and if an article is too weird, then people will comment on its weirdness. Anyway, every few weeks I have been trying to find an article just so totally boring that there would be no reason for anyone to comment on it, and at the same time not be too weird as to merit a comment based on its weirdness. I...

  • Fired reporters challenge Fox TV license

TAMPA (January 3, 2005) For what is believed to be the first time ever, two television journalists have challenged the broadcast license of a station on grounds it deliberately broadcast false and distorted news reports. Veteran reporters Jane Akre and Steve Wilson filed the petition Monday against WTVT Fox-13, in Tampa, a unit of Rupert Murdoch's Fox Television empire. The formal Petition To Deny the station's pending license renewal presents the Federal Communications Commission with 98 pages of what the journalists say is "clear and convincing support for the claim that the licensee is not operating in the public interest...

Replete with esoteric symbols, conspiracy research certainly warrants semiotic examination. Although fraught with historical flaws and theological distortions, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown acknowledges the value of semiotics in studying the conspiratorial world. In fact, the novel’s central character is a semiotician specializing in symbology. Evidently, Brown recognized the potential of semiotics in analyzing the coded messages of cabals occupying history’s darker corners. September 11th is one such corner that is worth semiotic analysis. Numerous researchers like Michael Ruppert and Dennis Cuddy have done an excellent job compiling the evidence of government complicity in 9-11. Recapitulating their arguments...

Brethren Agree to Revive 'Alternative Service' Draft Programs By Kevin Eckstrom Religion News Service Leaders of the Church of the Brethren say they will follow through on a request from the Selective Service to have "alternative service" programs in place for conscientious objectors if a draft is reinstated. As one of the historic "peace churches" that shun military service, Brethren officials were "cautious" after an unannounced visit by a draft official to a church center in Maryland last October. Officials were worried that the visit signaled that a draft may be at hand. In follow-up meetings, draft officials urged the...

I am a registered Republican and I will be be voting for Bush in this election. However, I am very troubled by a couple of issues. It seems (as much as I was against it) that Klintoon's nominal tax increase on the super wealthy did work. It didn't hurt the economy, it didn't hurt the wealthy's input to creating jobs, and it did help reduce the deficit. Also I wonder about President Bush's intentions for going into Iraq. I tend to believe he was backing a PNAC plan and would have gone there regardless of whether or not 9/11 occurred....
