A KARK interview with an elderly couple took an indecent turn over the weekend when a naked man walked out of the woods while the cameras were rolling. A crew from the Little Rock NBC affiliate was interviewing Eva Halpain and John Manassel about their home, which was destroyed when a tree fell on it Saturday evening. The interview was halted when Nathaniel Koba, who police say was intoxicated at the time of the incident, walked out of the nearby woods with no clothes on. “I ought to go out there and start an ass kicking contest,” Mannassel said. Police...
  • Police: Man Dies from Tainted Moonshine; Don't Drink It

The death of a man in Doddridge County has sparked a police investigation and troopers want you to be safe. A man in his 60's died this week at Ruby Memorial Hospital, supposedly after drinking poisoned moonshine he got in the county. Troopers say the unidentified man drank from a bottle of moonshine he got from a friend on Saturday night. He was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital after what was believed to be stroke symptoms. He died at the hospital Tuesday. After testing and investigations, it was determined that the tainted moonshine shut down the man's internal organs. Troopers...

At some point this year, according to Town Manager Mark Haddad, one town Water Department employee decided the drinking water bubbling up from Baddacook Well wasn't strong enough for his tastes. The employee, who Haddad refused to identify, reportedly had a thirst for something with a little more kick -- namely, moonshine -- and was making it on town property. The Sun has learned from a source close to the investigation that the employee is Water Department Senior Technician Stephen Collette.

This undated photo released by David Haskell shows bottles of moonshine and bourbon at Kings County Distillery in the Brooklyn borough of New York. King's, which is licensed, sells white whiskey in medicine style bottles labeled simply "moonshine." (AP Photo/David Haskell) White lightning, mountain dew, firewater - you know it as the illicit substance made in secret by tax-dodging mountain men and drunk by people looking to alter their reality in a serious way. But hooch is being infused with a whole new spirit thanks to a new generation of home and professional distillers. "Moonshine is multifaceted these days,"...

Moonshine conjures images of backwoods stills, the Duke boys, clandestine deliveries of hooch in jelly jars that's just as likely to cause blindness as get you drunk. But that'll soon change if modern distillers have anything to say about it. They're now distilling spirits "in the tradition of America's moonshiners" — white whiskeys. And with white whiskey becoming more common on shelves and whiskey fans eager for something new snapping it up by the jug, this so-called moonshine is poised for a revival the likes of which haven't been seen since Prohibition. Whether it's actually moonshine or not, white whiskey...

In early April, Kris Comstock, a representative for the Buffalo Trace distillery in Kentucky, conducted a seminar on bourbon at Char No. 4, a bar in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, that offers 150 kinds of American whiskey. Among the bourbons he poured were Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare and Blanton’s. But his students weren’t interested in those. “The first thing that everyone wanted to taste was the white dog,” he said. “We make products that win amazing awards all around the world, and they want to taste the white dog.” White dog, or white whiskey, is, basically, moonshine. It’s newborn whiskey, crystal-clear...

Pineville, KY - Officials say they've found a still big enough to make a lot of white lightning. Authorities in Pineville, Kentucky made the discovery and charged 40 year-old Noal Ward on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 with trafficking an alcoholic beverage in a dry territory. Ward is also charged with unlawful manufacturing. No bond is set and he remains in jail. Police say they found more than 100 gallons of whiskey and 500 gallons of mash, which is used to make the alcohol. On her blog, Elizabeth Wright offers an excellent analysis of the mass hysteria that is the Sarah Palin phenomenon. Wright is a black conservative who specializes in debunking the sense of victimhood that so many black leaders love to employ to their advantage. She argues that the many wannabe conservatives who are Palin fans are employing the same tactic. They invoke the liberal sense of victimhood in her defense. That of course is the essence of the Palin cult. It consists of people who feel that they're being put upon by their betters. It never occurs to these characters to...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have charged a North Carolina woman with selling moonshine out of her day care center. The Charlotte Observer reports Tuesday that North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement arrested 57-year-old Gwendolyn Brown-Johnson last week at Parkview Community Center in Charlotte. Agents say children were in the day care center when they sent in an undercover agent to buy two gallons of moonshine. Brown-Johnson told the paper she was set up by a neighbor. She says she was just holding a package for a man in exchange for $80 and didn't even know what was in it. Agents...

TODOS SANTOS CUCHUMATAN, Guatemala (Reuters) – Despite a drinking ban mayhem erupted at a traditional Mayan horse race on Sunday with riders falling off their horses and drunken spectators stumbling through the mountain village. Hundreds of tourists and locals gathered for the annual spectacle in Todo Santos Cuchumatan on Sunday to cheer the dozens of riders charging back and forth along a 330-foot (100-meter) length of road for up to seven hours. But the macho test of stamina was marred, as it has been in the past, by the copious amount of homemade spirits the riders consume, sometimes for days...

Yet again, a Saturday Wall Street Journal "Remembrances" column is filled with another interesting American personality, who isn't well known, but his story is entertaining. Apparently and sadly, Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton recently committed suicide rather than serve his second sentence in the federal pen for moonshining. I don't know about you, but this Appalachian legend producing moonshine without a license wasn't harming me, and it smacks more of big brother at work and big government over-regulating Americans literally to death than it does a crime that harmed society. There is no justice when this harmless 62-year-old hillbilly was about to...
