The Culinary Workers Union in Las Vegas, the largest union in Nevada, voted to authorize a strike against major casinos on Tuesday if contract disputes continue. The Culinary Union represents over 60,000 hospitality workers in Las Vegas and is one of Nevada’s strongest political forces. Over 95 percent of workers voted to authorize a strike Tuesday, the union announced. Over 40,000 members are currently working without a contract as the union seeks better pay, benefits and working conditions in negotiations with top casino companies including MGM International, Wynn and Caesars Entertainment.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced Saturday that it had downed 20 Ukrainian drones over Crimea, as well as stopped two missile strikes on the Kerch Bridge which connects Crimea to mainland Russia. No casualties were reported in the strikes.

The Ukrainian military has halted a Russian advance in the east of the country and is now moving south, officials said on Friday. “We had very fierce battles in the Kupiansk and Lyman directions, but our soldiers stopped the enemy there,” Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar told Ukrainian television. Ukraine’s summer counterattack has won multiple small victories, but Russian officials have denied Ukrainian claims that it has taken eight villages and pushed back Russian forces. That offensive is still in its early stages, with Ukrainian forces not yet advancing on the best-defended Russian positions in Donetsk and Luhansk.
