Hillary Clinton’s proposal to get money out of politics could allow the federal government to restrict or ban the publication of a book that has embroiled her presidential campaign in controversy, experts say. Clinton called for a constitutional amendment to “get unaccountable money out of” politics in an op-ed for the Des Moines Register published Monday. Her campaign did not respond to requests for additional details, but legal experts say similar efforts over the past two years would have profound effects on Americans’ free speech rights.

An amazing scene in Boston yesterday. Barack Obama returned to the city of one of his biggest triumphs (his 2004 Democrat convention speech) and one of his worst political spankings (the 2010 repudiation by Massachusetts Senate voters of his candidate). Those were tough days for the ex-state legislator, you may remember. Virginia voters had just rejected Obama's choice for governor. New Jersey voters had just rejected Obama's choice for governor. Both setbacks were indicators of the rising tide of dissatisfaction over Obama's preoccupation with ObamaCare when what voters really wanted was Joe Biden's three-letter word, "J-O-B-S." Americans are still waiting...
  • Kerry: Yacht story 'our fault'

Kerry: Yacht story 'our fault' By: Andy Barr July 30, 2010 07:50 AM EDT Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) said Thursday that he and his office mishandled the politics surrounding tax questions on his new $7 million yacht. “I don’t think I dealt with it fast enough, effectively enough. There’s nobody to blame but myself for that,” Kerry said Thursday in an interview with the Boston Globe. Throughout the weeklong story, Kerry has insisted that he will pay whatever state taxes are owed – estimated to be $500,000 – on the yacht. Kerry has so far not had to pay Massachusetts’...
  • CA: Critics say Schwarzenegger sends mixed messages on steroids

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Arnold Schwarzenegger returns this weekend to the bodybuilding contest that bears his name, continuing his embrace of a sport in which steroid use endures from his own days - at a time when talk of doping is a national pastime. California's governor, who acknowledges taking steroids as a competitor, makes his annual pilgrimage to the Arnold Classic to reconnect with adoring fans of the sport that made him famous, far from a gathering political storm back home. Instead of politics, the weekend is about athletes and big muscles. But just below the surface, it's also about...
  • Moveon.Org Held Phone-A-Thon @ DNC HQ (Where is the FEC When You Really Need Them?)

It looks like John Kerry and the Dems are barking up the wrong tree again. A very brief amount of research turned up at least four violations of the Kerry-Standard Federal Election Commission laws on 527s. I personally believe in Free and Open Speech but if J"FEC"K really wants to hunt violaters he ought to start in his own backyard. This site links to original sources (while they last) which have all the details of this and at least three other "violations".
  • Peter Mokaba -- obituary

Peter Mokaba, who has died aged 43, was a hero of the radical youth wing of the ruling African National Congress party, for whom he remained a future leader despite a reputation for unashamed self-indulgence and unceasing controversy. His role in ANC affairs was guaranteed both by the strong personal support he enjoyed in Limpopo Province, formerly northern Transvaal, and by his position within the increasingly powerful Left-wing, which believed that the “liberation struggle” was still to be won. He was a protege of Winnie Mandela. When President Nelson Mandela’s ANC government was urgently seeking to establish itself as a proponent of...
