President Trump rallied his supporters in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania, Thursday night for the second of three "Make America Great Again" rallies in one week. The rally was ostensibly to champion GOP Rep. Lou Barletta, who is running against Democratic incumbent Sen. Bob Casey — but it encompassed many of the president's go-to topics. Mr. Trump called Barletta "dynamo." Barletta, for his part, praised Mr. Trump in a brief but energetic speech. The president dubbed Casey, "Sleeping Bob."

Thundering that the media is the “fake, fake disgusting news,” President Donald Trump unleashed a torrent of grievances Thursday at a Pennsylvania campaign rally in which he cast journalists as his true political opponent. Trump barnstormed in a state that he swiped from the Democrats in 2016 and that is home to a Senate seat he is trying to place in the Republicans’ column this fall. But the race between GOP U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta and two-term incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey took a back seat to Trump’s invectives against the media, which came amid a backdrop of antagonism to...

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video along North Broad Street after a group of about 300 teenagers crowded the area Sunday night. It’s not clear why the large group descended onto Broad Street at around 7:30 p.m. Police are looking to identify a small fraction of the kids; those who were fighting and damaging property inside a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant near the Liacouras Center and one other business, flipping over tables and chairs. […] Police are reviewing social media to determine if this was a planned meet-up. Police Commissioner Richard Ross says often times investigators can stop social media meet-ups before...

Three hundred years ago on July 30 a man responsible for many important contributions to this city, state and country died. Long before William Penn moved to the top of City Hall, there was Independence Hall. Decades before that building came to be, there was a little boy named William Penn. He was born and raised in England in the 1640s, almost a hundred years before George Washington. “One of his basic tenets was, ‘We should all come to love one another and live our lives that way regardless,'” said National Park Service Ranger Ray Harsharger. Harsharger also happens to...

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and City Solicitor Marcel Pratt announced July 27 that their city will let expire a decade-old contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that currently allows ICE access to the Philadelphia Police Department’s Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System (PARS). The PARS agreement with ICE will expire August 31. A news release posted by the city’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Law Department quoted Kenny as follows: For some time now we have been concerned that ICE uses PARS in inappropriate ways, including to conduct investigations that result in immigration enforcement against law-abiding Philadelphia residents. My Administration engaged...

A Pennsylvania man was convicted on all charges in the death of his 12-year-old daughter, who was shot by a constable serving eviction papers with a bullet that went through her father’s arm. Perry county authorities said that in January 2016 Donald Meyer Jr, 60, pointed a loaded rifle at the constable. The officer fired and the bullet wounded Meyer but killed Ciara Meyer, who was standing behind him. Andrew Bender, a defense attorney, told jurors Meyer was responsible for his daughter’s death. “Parents are supposed to protect their children,” he said, according to PennLive.com. “Not put them in harm’s...

Philadelphia has announced it will end a major information-sharing contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), bowing to intense pressure from activist groups and drawing immediate condemnation from federal officials. The move means that the city will not renew a decade-long arrangement to share real-time arrest information with ICE when it expires at the end of August. The information, contained in Philadelphia’s Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System (PARS), alerts authorities when new arrests are made, and includes arrestee's full names, countries of origin, and Social Security numbers. While PARS does not indicate immigration status, Democrats charged that ICE nevertheless abused the...

This is a sad story about a family who was forced to sell their Children's Playhouse Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and move to smaller market in Idaho where the local theater scene is not (hopefully) dominated by the Gay mafia. For two years, this devout Christian family brought low priced family friendly entertainment to a liberal neighborhood in Pittsburgh until they ran afoul of the local LGBT mafia for refusing to rewrite a scene to make a gay couple the centerpiece. (For the record, they weren't even refusing to have gay dads in the musical, just to make them the...

Philadelphia will stop giving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement access to a real-time arrest database, saying the agency is misusing the information to conduct sweeps in which otherwise law-abiding immigrants are also being caught up. Federal officials said the decision puts U.S. citizens in danger. “We’re not going to provide them with information so they can go out and round people up,” Democratic Mayor Jim Kenney said Friday as he announced his decision to let a decade-old contract with ICE expire at the end of next month. Kenney said immigration officers are wrongly using the database to go to homes...

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WPVI) -- Pennsylvania's highest court is upholding Philadelphia's tax on sweetened drinks, rejecting a challenge to the soda tax by merchants and the beverage industry. The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday the 1.5-cent-per-ounce levy is aimed at distributors and dealer-level transactions and does not illegally duplicate another existing tax.

Democrats hold a massive voter lead in states that require party registration, a gap of 12 million that could be key to whether the party takes control of the House and Senate in the fall midterm congressional elections, according to a new analysis. Overall, 40 percent of voters in 31 party registration states are Democrats, 29 percent are Republicans, and 28 percent are independents, according to a new report of July numbers from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. The states include several with key battles over House seats such as California, New York, Florida, and Pennsylvania. The lead...

Hillary Clinton had strong words for the Trump administration and Republicans on Friday while addressing the American Federation of Teachers, saying the fundamental rights of Americans are what’s at stake this November. Speaking at the labor union’s conference in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Clinton slammed the administration’s separations of families at the border as inhumane and indecent. “I believe with all my heart that the test of any society is how we treat the most vulnerable among us, particularly our youngest, our oldest, our people with disabilities, and right now, my friends, our country is failing that test,” she said. “We have...
