More than 500 Penn State students gathered in downtown State College about 11 p.m. Tuesday, then moved to Old Main, where their ranks swelled to more than 1,000. They held signs, sang the alma mater, chanted "We are Penn State," most to show their support for embattled football coach Joe Paterno. The demonstration, as a 12:30, had remained fairly peaceful.
