When do we put Rover down? I have always thought that when an animal becomes sick, old, diseased, and is in pain, senile or unable to manage that the kind thing to do would be to euthanize it. However, it seems that I am in the minority with that opinion. Our good dog of 15 years is now senile, is anxious and barks, has poor vision and little hearing. He barks almost constantly, cannot remember where he is or where we are. He is a sad old mess. I have been advocating putting him to sleep. Others in the family...

Goats recognise and are attracted to happy humans, a study has found. Much like us, they seem to be drawn to smiling faces. But don’t expect to make friends with a goat if you scowl at it. Scientists showed 20 goats unfamiliar photos of the same human face looking happy or angry. ================================================================= The research, conducted at Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats in Kent, demonstrated that the goats preferred to interact with the smiling face. Released from a distance of four metres (13ft) they generally made straight for the happy image, exploring it curiously with their snouts. This suggested that goats...

ANIMAL WATCH-Any dog attack is alarming, painful and can cause lasting injury -- whether it is by a Pit Bull or a Chihuahua--regardless of whether victims are merely knocked down or the animal sinks its teeth into their flesh. Plus, there are other victims in every attack--family members, witnesses, those who try to stop the attack, employers, and landlords or business owners on whose property the incident occurs. There have been two reported attacks by dogs on airlines in the past year: In June 2017, a man was mauled by an emotional support dog on a Delta Air Lines flight...

Japan says lunar chasm measuring 50km long and 100 metres wide could be used as a base for astronauts and their equipment.Scientists have fantasised for centuries about humans colonising the moon. That day may have drawn a little closer after Japan’s space agency said it had discovered an enormous cave beneath the lunar surface that could be turned into an exploration base for astronauts. The discovery, by Japan’s Selenological and Engineering Explorer (Selene) probe, comes as several countries vie to follow the US in sending manned missions to the moon. Using a radar sounder system that can examine underground structures,...

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A Live 5 News investigation has revealed there are no laws in South Carolina regulating doggy daycare businesses, a finding that comes after a Mount Pleasant woman's pet dog died at a Mount Pleasant doggy daycare. She says she dropped off Zane at 9 a.m. Von says she returned at 5 p.m. to pick him up and says she was met by the owner. "She...

A Denton County couple is on a mission to bring their beloved pet back home, but Goose isn't the average house pet. He's an 8-month-old pig who recently got out of his backyard in Hickory Creek and wound up at animal control. His owners went to pick him up but say they couldn't take him home because an ordinance doesn't allow pigs in the city. The couple now plans to go before city council to request a change in the ordinance so they can bring Goose home. "We miss him, our animals miss him, our neighbors miss him. We just...

DANVILLE, Pa – A couple who took their nearly 5-foot boa constrictor for a swim in a Pennsylvania river say the pet slipped away and they're concerned about its welfare. The Bloomsburg Press Enterprise reported Thursday that Kolby and Zachary Latranyi had been swimming with the snake named Leyla last weekend in the Susquehanna River. The Latranyis say the red-tailed boa was shedding, so the swim was designed to help it remove material from its scales.

The new Dr. Seuss book "What Pet Should I Get?" is about two children who go to a pet store to buy a pet. That was a commonplace event back in the 1950s or early 1960s, when Dr. Seuss is believed to have written the long-lost book, but it's discouraged today. Which is why the new book comes with a remarkable addendum: A publisher's note urging children to walk on by the pet store and adopt from an animal shelter. But animal rights activist Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said it's not enough...

Instead of leaving with the drugs and weapons they were sent to find, a Minnesota SWAT team executing a “no-knock raid” left with the bodies of a family’s two dead dogs. “The first thing I heard was ‘boom,’” Larry Lee Arman told KMSP, recalling the raid which occurred in St. Paul at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. “Bop, bop, bop, bop, bop. Right in front of us.” Equipped with a warrant for drugs and weapons, the SWAT unit barged in while Arman was asleep on a mattress with his two children, shooting Mello and Laylo, the family’s two pit bulls. “One...

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am a die hard Evangelical Christian. I believe that when a Christian dies, they go to be with the Lord. Paul said it so eloquently in his second epistle to the Corinthians. 8:5, "We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." So, I do not believe in reincarnation. However, if ever there were a moment one might question the theory of reincarnation, this may be one.

Sad news today. My best dog Daisy passed this afternoon. She will be missed. We got her as a rescue. Someone had thrown here out of a car, she had mange, needed stitches and lots of TLC when we found her some 8 years ago. We adopted her and gave her a good home. She went out this morning and chased that pesky squirrel on the fence. After lunch, we found her by the fire place in her "puppy dreams" sleeping pose.
