Former Gov. Joe Kernan says a signature on a petition to place Barack Obama's name on Indiana's 2008 primary ballot isn't his, putting him among dozens of dubious signatures found in a newspaper's investigation. Kernan, a Democrat who campaigned for Hillary Clinton during the 2008 primary, told the South Bend Tribune that he didn't sign the Obama document. "No, not at all," the former South Bend mayor said when asked whether the signature next to his name on the Obama petition looked like his own. "Nor does the printing look like mine." The Tribune reported Wednesday that it has talked...

t's official. WSBT first told you that a long-time St. Joseph County Democratic Chair Butch Morgan had resigned. But there was some confusion over whether that in fact did happen, until shortly before 10 p.m. when his attorney confirmed it. Earlier Monday night, Morgan’s attorney told WSBT he was considering a leave of absence, not a resignation. That was after Indiana State Democratic Chairman Dan Parker sent WSBT an email stating Morgan resigned effective at 6 p.m. This comes as the St. Joseph County Prosecutor investigates the local Democratic Party for possible voter registration fraud. A South Bend Tribune and...

President Obama’s new “We The People” initiative smells exactly like a political campaign move and is unethical, says one large grassroots conservative group spokesman. FreedomWorks spokesman Adam Brandon said it appears the White House is using taxpayer-funded government resources to play political games. Brandon told The Daily Caller that FreedomWorks is looking into the legality of the new program. “The White House [should be] about policy, not politics,” Brandon said in a telephone interview. “This is a political move.” The new Web campaign is a “direct reaction to the success of the tea party, the left and the Obama administration...

The Obama White Hut seeks to establish a web site where citizens (whatever those are these days) can exercise their First Amendment rights by petitioning the Feral Government. If you have petitions you believe could garner enough votes (5000) to have them sent on to Congress for consideration, write them up in a thoughtful, well-worded manner here, and see if many others would support them at the web site.

Democrats Propose Measures To Rein In California Initiative Process Some say the bevy of voter-mandated programs leaves lawmakers hamstrung and that the process is subject to abuse by special interests. Critics say the proposed changes would 'neuter direct democracy.' California is the only state that doesn't allow its Legislature to amend or repeal statutes created by voters. By Michael J. Mishak, August 26, 2011 Reporting from Sacramento— Democrats in the Legislature are trying to make it harder for Californians to pass their own laws at the ballot box, saying the state's century-old initiative process has been hijacked by the special...

California’s initiative process has long been a thorn in the side of the state’s labor unions and their allies in the Democrat Party. While they have occasionally utilized ballot measure to coax more money out of taxpayers, overall progressives have viewed ballot initiatives as the one aspect of the state’s government that they cannot fully control. Their stranglehold on the legislature and deep pockets for election spending ensure their domination as California’s most powerful political influencer. For besieged conservatives and businesses, bypassing the union-controlled legislature and appealing directly to voters has been a saving grace and has slowed, if not...

The radio ad sounds unsettling, warning of the dangers of signing political petitions. “California doesn’t license or bond signature gatherers. Many of them are from out of state and move from city to city to carry petitions. Anyone can do it, even convicted felons and forgers,” says the ad. “The legislature even called it an identity theft starter kit.” The tagline says the ad is funded by Californians Against Identity Theft, with no further information. The Watchdog set out to determine who was behind the ad. The domain for the group’s website is registered to the same address and phone...

To the Members of the California State Senate: I am returning Senate Bill 168 without my signature. This bill makes it a crime for a person to payor receive money (or any other thing of value) based-directly or indirectly--on the number of signatures obtained on a state or local initiative, referendum, or recall petition. While runderstand the potential abuses of the current per-signature payment system, 1 believe this bill is flawed for two reasons. First, this bill would effectively prohibit organizations from even setting targets or quotas for those they hire to gather signatures. It doesn't seem very practical to...

This video was shot minutes after a union advocate destroyed several petitions at a recall Jim Holperin Rally in Merill, WI. The event was moved to the court house grounds because the private location originally slated to host the event was threatened with arson. It should be noted that police were present when the protestor destroyed these recall petitions, but stated to us that there was nothing they could do about it. The female protestor, who had a young child with her, approached the recall table pretending to be interested in signing the petition, then proceeded to write F--- You!...

Justice Antonin Scalia, using history, sarcasm and political taunts, laid down a barrage of objections Wednesday to a plea that the Supreme Court create a new constitutional right of anonymity for individuals who sign petitions to get policy measures onto election ballots. When he was finished, the strong impression was that it might be exceedingly hard to gather a five-vote majority to establish such a right, even though the plea got the fervent support of Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., and some implied help from Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. The oral argument was in John Doe # 1,...

It's time to fight back against the cap and trade bill that will saddle Americans with thousands of dollars in new taxes, fees, and and costs each year. This bill has already passed the House of Representatives and now it is going to the Senate. We need to stop this tax-laden bill now!

Prop. 8 Thank You Petition An online petition has been posted here where individuals can express solidarity and thanks to the Mormon Church for strongly supporting California’s Proposition 8. The ballot initiative was approved by California voters Nov. 4, thereby amending the state constitution to define marriage as a one-man, one-woman institution. Since the initiative was passed this month, homosexual activists have conducted hostile demonstrations outside Mormon churches and some homosexual leaders have called for retribution against Mormons who supported Proposition 8. The thank-you petition states, “Anyone who participated in this process has come to admire the competence, diligence and...

All we hear these days is whining from reckless home borrowers and their banks. But did you know that renters are 32 percent of American households? And that homes in foreclosure are less than 2 percent? So why is Congress rushing to bailout high-flying borrowers and their lenders with our tax dollars? Sign the petition, watch the video and then check out the pictures from the Capitol Hill delivery! The next wave of signatures will be delivered next week. http://angryrenter.com/?go=7453

If you are a blogger who has taken the pledge and linked to the site, please send me a note so I can add your support here. I interviewed Tony Snow at the top of the program today, and Senator Norm Coleman is scheduled in hour two. Chuck Muth's DC CONFIDENTIAL November 8, 2006 ELECTION POST-MORTEM While most Republicans woke up this morning lamenting Armageddon Tuesday, some of us didn't lose any sleep over the election results. Happy at the prospect of two years with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi running Congress? Hardly. But there are a lot of silver linings behind these otherwise dark clouds.

LOS ANGELES Circulating recall petitions in languages other than English is not necessary, a federal appeals court ruled in a local school board case Tuesday. The 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned an earlier decision by a three-judge panel that found the petitions must be translated into other languages. "The expense and trouble of fulfilling the translation requirements are likely to deter proponents who otherwise would launch petitions," the opinion stated. A lawsuit challenging the legality of a 2003 election that resulted in the recall of Santa Ana Unified School District trustee Native Lopez was...

Traditional Mass Propers For The Feast Day ofPope Saint Pius X( Thirteenth Sunday After Pentecost ) 3 September 2006 A.D. Missa Réspice, Dómine "....Go thy way for thy faith hath made thee whole...." "Nothing is so consoling, so piercing, so thrilling, so overcoming, as the Mass, said as it is among us. I could attend Mass forever, and not be tired. It is not a mere form of words; it is a great action. The greatest action that can be on earth. It is. . .the vocation of the Eternal." -- John Henry Cardinal Newman
