The Biden administration announced it would again reduce payments to Medicare physicians, this time by 8.42 percent. According to a recent survey, 92 percent of medical group practices report that Medicare payments do not cover the cost of providing care. The federal government can stay in business when it takes in less revenue than it expends. Why? Because it can print money and no one else can. To stay in business, physicians will have to reject Medicare patients; access will decrease once again. And with Democrats pushing legislation like the wrongly named Inflation Reduction Act, things will only get worse....

President Donald Trump assured reporters Monday that Mexico will pay for the border wall even if it’s through reimbursement. During a joint White House press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Trump was asked if it was still his play to have Mexico pay for the wall. “Yes, they will. One way or the other, Mexico is going to pay for the wall. That's right. It may be through reimbursement, but one way or the other, Mexico will pay for the wall,” the president said. “We're right now negotiating NAFTA. In my opinion, Mexico has been very difficult, as they...
  • Gingrich’s old ethics case revived (The AJC setting the facts straight)

In politics, what goes around comes around — especially if you’re running for president. In 1988, then-Congressman Newt Gingrich’s success in bringing down Democratic House Speaker Jim Wright on ethics charges helped propel the Georgian into the House GOP leadership. But in 1994, then-Speaker Gingrich became the subject of his own lengthy ethics investigation. Although he was not found guilty on any of the 84 charges, the probe resulted in a reprimand from the House Ethics Committee, a $300,000 fine, dwindling support from the Republican caucus and his eventual resignation from Congress. “I’m willing to lead,” Gingrich said, announcing his...

Since becoming defense secretary in July, Mr. Panetta has flown home 14 times as of last week, continuing the cross-country commute he made regularly as CIA director, and he has no plans to curtail the trips, his aides said. “The White House understood when Mr. Panetta took the job that he would return to Monterey to visit his family, as he did when he was director of the CIA,” a senior administration official said. “That’s where his family lives, after all.” Mr. Panetta’s travel situation, first reported by the Los Angeles Times in September, is drawing another look, particularly after...

Ok, I'm sorry if this is a silly thread, but I'm looking for advice on the legalities of a situation and I'm not sure where to go. I figured there are a lot of freepers here who are pretty darn smart and combined with experiences, could offer some help... Basically a big known company (name withheld) my husband worked for just sent a letter saying that they over paid him by $192 and are requesting it to be paid back. He hasn't worked there since September 2005 and they are just now sending us this letter. Do they have a...

Request Denied Friday January 23, 1:57 am ET Jonathan Groner, Legal Times Law.com It's been almost five years since the demise of the law that empowered Kenneth Starr and almost 20 other independent counsel to probe allegations of government misconduct. But to the former Clinton administration officials and other figures from that era's scandals who were targeted under it, the law remains very much alive. The special three-judge panel overseeing the statute is still ruling on requests by those caught up in IC probes who are seeking government reimbursement of their legal fees. And it is taking a consistently hard...

Air Force will pay $12,000 for bomb damage to home 12/28/2002 Associated Press EL PASO - Gloria Aker got a late Christmas present this week when the U.S. Air Force agreed to settle a claim for damage it caused when it accidentally bombed her Monahans home in July. Ms. Aker's home was hit by a dummy bomb accidentally dropped from an Air Force F-177A Nighthawk on a practice run from Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Although the dummy didn't contain explosives, it pierced the roof of Ms. Aker's home, flew across a bathroom, slammed through a wall...
