President Donald Trump assured reporters Monday that Mexico will pay for the border wall even if it’s through reimbursement.

During a joint White House press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Trump was asked if it was still his play to have Mexico pay for the wall.

“Yes, they will. One way or the other, Mexico is going to pay for the wall. That's right. It may be through reimbursement, but one way or the other, Mexico will pay for the wall,” the president said.

“We're right now negotiating NAFTA. In my opinion, Mexico has been very difficult, as they should be. Why wouldn't they be? They had a sweetheart deal for so many years. It's one of the great deals of all time for them. One of the worst trade deals ever signed,” Trump said.

He said he could “guarantee” that the Finnish president “would never have signed NAFTA with Russia or whoever you wanted. This is not a deal that you would want to sign. This is not a deal that Finland would know about.” …

I had to check the date on this article. 2017? Or 2016?

Does it really matter any more? There are bigger fish to fry.

Add a 3% or so tax on remittances there . . . and to other countries which has an illegal immigration issue

The worse the problem, the higher the %

Let the illegals and legals pay for it rather than “natural born citizens” Hear that. Ocommie?

Just add a tax to the money the illegals are SENDING back to Mexico ... the SENDING company will collect the tax.

"It may be through reimbursement, but one way or the other, Mexico will pay for the wall,” the president said.

And I might hit the lottery tonight, too. One way or another.

Will the sending company be responsible for determining who is illegal and who isn't as well?

Funny how there are always “bigger fish to fry” than a major issue. Roast the turkeys and fry the actual fish.

People and countries pay for things every day that they do not want to pay. There are many ways to get Mexico to pay for the wall.

Just make everyone wiring money to Mexico pay and let those who are legal deduct it on their income tax.

Put illegals in striped suits and tent cities and make them work on the wall.

Put Sheriff Joe in charge and piss off EVERYBODY!

LOL

How about just build the wall and drop the farce about Mexico paying for it? We need it.

What “bigger fish to fry” is there? I wold say bulking a wall on the Southern border is paramount.

Put a processing fee on all traffic through the border at border crossings - people, cars, trucks, trains.

Authorities do it on roads, bridges and tunnels everywhere inside the US so why not at border crossings?

There are estimates that 1 million people cross the US/Mexico border every day.

At the San Diego/Tijuana crossing alone it is reported tha about 120,000 passenger vehicles, 63,000 pedestrians and 6,000 trucks cross back and forth every day.

Charge $1 per person and $5 per per axle on cars, trailers and trucks.

Or charge commercial vehicles and freight trains by the ton.

Lots of ways to get the money from Mexico other than ‘accepting a check’... they'll pay. Maybe with a NAFTA caveat - maybe tariffs. It'll happen - President Trump ‘gets’ money and how it works.

>>Add a 3% or so tax on remittances there . . . and to other countries which has an illegal immigration issue<<

That is such an easy solution I don’t know why it hasn’t been done yet.

Do the wire services have that strong a lobby?

>>How about just build the wall and drop the farce about Mexico paying for it? We need it.<<

That is underway.

And as usual, people are calling it a “lie” from Trump b/c he has had more difficulty executing it now he has taken office.

It's fantasy because there is no way Mexico will pay for it or reimburse for it. So drop the charade and press on with the construction.
