he U.S. Army Publishing Directorate released the ALARACT 017/2024, titled, “Utilization of the Army Retiree Recall Program.” The document cites Executive Order 13223 from the Bush administration in 2001. A retiree recall is a “retired Soldier who is ordered to active duty (AD) from the Retired Reserve or the retired list under 10 USC 688/688a, 12301(a), or 12301(d). Per AR 601-10, Recalled retiree Soldiers must be aligned to a valid vacant AC requirement that matches the grade and skill of the retiree before he or she may be recalled to AD,” according to the document. “The retiree population will be...

The financial landscape for many Americans is far from secure, as recent studies shed light on the alarming state of savings at life’s end. According to a report from the National Bureau of Economic Research, a significant portion of Americans – 46% to be exact – exit life with a sobering financial snapshot: $10,000 or less in their savings accounts. This revelation strikes at the heart of the retirement crisis narrative, contrasting the security of pension plans and Social Security benefits with the harsh truth of inadequate personal savings. The study followed seniors from 1993 to 2008, revealing a complex...

I need some advice. I am 67 years old and in a little over a Month I will be having my right shoulder replaced. I am actively enrolled in Medical-Care for health care, but not in any prescription policies. However, I need to figure out which prescription policy would be best for me before I have the surgery. As of right now I have no current prescriptions for anything. Until I began having shoulder problems I have not even seen a general practitioner for over 10 years. Other than my shoulder problem I am healthy as an ox, or at...

I just had a thought while reading about the shooting in Colorado. Where are the conservatives? As the years go by, we - fellow conservatives and Freepers - watch as liberals, progressives, socialists, and statists take over American institutions. School board, teachers inside the schools, AG's throughout the states, social media sites, orgranizations such as Ford Foundation, Nobel committees, inside sports organizations, inside big businesses, and so on. As these anti-American/Constitutional forces move in, where are the conservatives? Where do they go? What organizations do they belong to and/or control? Even on FR, you have voices that sound more anti-American/Constitutional...

Longtime NBC News broadcaster Brian Williams issued a strange warning Thursday as he retired from his 11 p.m. MSNBC show. "The reality is though, I will wake up tomorrow in the America of the year 2021, a nation unrecognizable to those who came before us and fought to protect it, which is what you must do now," Williams said. "They’ve decided to burn it all down with us inside. That should scare you to no end as much as it scares an aging volunteer fireman." Transcript and video at link.

Top leadership at the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) informed active duty and retired service members that they cannot condemn President Joe Biden amid the chaotic — and now deadly — pullout of American troops from Afghanistan. In an email from the ONI’s Chief of Staff, ONI members were reminded that per a Uniform Code of Military Justice and Department of Defense Directive clause they cannot disrespect senior government leadership. This includes the President, Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, and more. The email reads: Given the heightened political and social atmosphere surrounding Afghanistan, it is important to remind...

My first ever and only thread I posted on FR was just prior to leaving for Navy Chaplain school back in 2004. Today is a 2nd (likely last) bookend post with a thank you for your prayers and support for our service members. I started out as a Marine infantryman back in 1992. Got out in 1996 with a calling to ministry. After college and seminary I was commissioned as a Navy chaplain in 2004 and retired on July 1 with twenty total active duty years. I feel very fortunate and privileged to serve my country in this capacity and...

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Retired soldiers with medical experience are being asked to volunteer to return to duty because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with emails suggesting they "re-join the team" being sent directly to former military members. Calling it a "voluntary recall," the U.S. Army "is reaching out to gauge the interest of our retired officers, noncommissioned officers and soldiers who would be willing to assist with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic response effort should their skills and expertise be required," said the email, which was first reported by TucsonSentinel.com.--snip--

**SNIP** It’s a dilemma more American retirees can relate to: While most borrowers are 18 to 39 years old, people over 60 are the fastest-growing segment of the population with student loan debt, according to a report by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In all, more than 2.8 million Americans over 60 are contending with student debt, a number that has quadrupled from 700,000 in 2005, according to the bureau. The cost is swelling, too: Between 2012 and 2017, for those age 60 and older, the average amount of student loan debt almost doubled, ballooning to $23,500 from $12,100. The...

A Long Island Rail Road worker who raked in more than $280,000 in pay last year — more than half from overtime — was busted hanging out at home while on the clock, according to a report obtained by The Post. But he was allowed to retire before he could be punished — and collect his full pension on the public dime. Raymond Murphy, a foreman with the LIRR’s Buildings and Bridges department who’d been at the agency since 1996, was caught by the MTA’s Inspector General at or near his home on 10 occasions when he was on duty...

Trial starts in Las Vegas over Harry Reid’s exercise band injuries Former U.S. Sen. Harry Reid was seated in a wheelchair Monday when his lawyer paused to address the political views emanating from a group of potential jurors in a Las Vegas courtroom. “Our country is about as split as it could be,” said the attorney, Jim Wilkes. “We can’t fix policy today. We’re here about a civil lawsuit. This is about one person’s litigation.” Reid, now 79, sued the makers of a resistance exercise band after an incident that blinded him in his right eye more than four years...

RUSH: We had a caller that I didn’t have time for, wanted to know why don’t we ever see Robert Mueller? We don’t see anybody in that office. And the media doesn’t try to track ’em down. They are protected like you can’t believe. The media’s not gonna do one thing to discredit those - I have heard of that Mueller is not even really running the show now that Weissmann is. I’ve actually heard more than that, but I can’t confirm so I don’t want to say any more than that. Not that he’s gone, but that he checked...

Do you know anyone who has decided to let someone else manage their finances? Just before Christmas, Obama finalized new rules banning Social Security recipients from buying a gun if they have trouble managing their finances. On Thursday, the House of Representatives voted 235-180 to overturn that rule, with just two Democrats voting with the majority. This week, members of the Senate will face the same vote. Under the Congressional Review Act, Congress has 60 days to pass a resolution overruling the regulation. About 10% of all people 65 and older risk being classified as "financially incompetent" — about 4.2...

WASHINGTON – Congress voted Friday to put limits on the expense accounts ex-presidents get from American taxpayers. The bill, which cleared the House by voice vote, is heading to President Barack Obama's desk. The legislation sets an annual allowance of $200,000 a year for travel, staff and office costs that have become a standard part of life after the Oval Office. For former presidents who make money through books, speaking fees and other ventures, the allowance is reduced for every dollar in outside income in excess of $400,000. Both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, like other former presidents before...

Retired NYPD members are discussing ways to keep New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio away from the funerals of recently-murdered NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu. One tactic, suggested in a popular law enforcement web forum, instructed officers to block the Mayor’s motorcade when it approached one of the funerals: All unions should reach out to their retired members. Use us to block this POS Mayor from attending these funerals. I don’t know if the fallen are from the City or not, but it shouldn’t matter. We can assemble en masse, and start a peaceful protest when his...

House Speaker John Boehner’s top allies are racing out the door to retirement, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday. Top Boehner allies that are retiring in 2014 include four committee chairmen: Reps. Mike Rogers (R-MI) of the Intelligence Committee, Buck McKeon (R-CA) of the Armed Services Committee, Doc Hastings (R-WA) of the Natural Resources Committee and Dave Camp (R-MI) of the Ways and Means Committee. One of Boehner closest friends, Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA), is retiring this year, and another—Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID)—may lose his seat in a primary in Idaho against conservative Bryan Smith. “In a Capitol where accomplishments are...

Over the course of their 60-year marriage, Bernard “Bernie” Karpinkski and his wife, Violet, took few chances when it came to their retirement. “From the time we were married, we started saving,” says Bernie, 89, who lives in Pueblo, Colorado. “We lived much more conservatively than most people. We had three cars our entire lives and drove them until they had close to 200,000 miles on them before we bought another. We didn’t buy our second home until we had enough saved to pay cash.” While their friends moved into bigger homes, took vacations and put their life on plastic,...
