An insurance company that covered several businesses destroyed during the George Floyd riots in Minneapolis is suing the city for negligence. “[George] Floyd’s death sparked several days of protests and civil unrest, which resulted in damage to numerous businesses in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, including damage to the insureds’ businesses,” the lawsuit (pdf) states. The Illinois Casualty Company (ICC) paid insurance claims of over $5.6 million in damages “caused by the civil unrest,” according to the lawsuit. The complaint cites an independent report from Hillard Heintze (HH), a safety and security consulting firm. The city contracted with the firm in...

It already happened once. What makes us think it will not again? On April 29, 1992, the United States experienced a mini civil war in which more than sixty people were killed in armed conflict, and 2,300 were wounded. Live television recorded the event, clips of which are available on YouTube. Other, even more dramatic scenes depicted full-fledged gun battles on the streets of Los Angeles, California. The location was an urban section known as Korea Town. Rioting and looting were sparked when a young black man was arrested for the violent robbery of a Korean-American business. Over a period...

At least one person has died in violent unrest and riots in Papua New Guinea's capital of Port Moresby. Local media are reporting that the death toll from the unrest could be up to five at this stage, but ABC has only confirmed that one person has died. Paramedics responded to multiple call-outs last night involving severed burns and gunshot wounds, with St. John Ambulance describing it as a "significant emergency situation". Local security services described the rioting overnight as total anarchy. Videos of the unrest showed warehouses engulfed in flames and large crowds of people engaging in looting and...

It’s time to stop debating history and facts with people who only care about the exercise of raw political power.div class="article-content"> The news that the Biden administration planned to remove a statue of William Penn in a federal park in Philadelphia that commemorates the founding of Pennsylvania, and that the purpose of the removal was to “provide a more welcoming, accurate, and inclusive experience for visitors,” should at this point not come as a surprise.Once the removals and destruction of Confederate statues and memorials began a few years ago, it was inevitable that all historical figures from America’s past, even...

HONG KONG—For months now, I’ve been told that Hong Kong’s protests would end soon. They’ll end when school starts, I heard during the summer. School did start, but the protests wore on, only now I saw high-school students in crisp school uniforms joining the protesters’ ranks. Next, the mask ban of early October was supposed to slow protesters down, but the very first day after that ban, I watched streams of protesters in masks and helmets make their way to their usual haunts on Hong Kong Island. The government shut down many of the subway lines that day, a practice...

Since liberals are OK with the police killing Ashli Babbitt, that same standard should be held for all rioters.

How's this for an idea? Argentina's new president, Javier Milei, and his new justice minister, Patricia Bullrich, have advised Argentina's rioters they can kiss their welfare payments goodbye if they go out rioting -- starting fires, spraying graffiti, breaking windows, blocking roads, and looting. Milei's government in Argentina 🇦🇷 announced that they will cut off welfare benefits for everyone who riots and cuts off traffic in protests. The security minister said that police will take pictures and drones will, too. Conservatives must learn the lessons of 2020—and prepare. The resurgence of public protests in support of Hamas has revealed a disturbing truth: the left-wing rioting following George Floyd’s death in 2020 was not an anomaly, but a tactic that activists can repurpose for any cause. Whether by coincidence or design, these recent outbursts could be a dress rehearsal for possible violence during next year’s election campaign. Conservative leaders must prepare for that prospect. To prevent 2020 from repeating itself in 2024, conservatives need to consider what might spark a riot, how it can be prevented, and how to understand and...

You might think that a government faced with a barbaric public stabbing of schoolchildren and an unprecedented night of rioting in its capital city would extend condolences to the victims, take a deep breath, and try to figure out how a city managed to spiral out of control on its watch. But instead, Thursday’s riots in Dublin were met by a shallow, one-dimensional analysis by all of the key authorities involved: to blame the “far right.”For example, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris blamed the violence on the streets on a “hooligan faction driven by far right ideology.” Taoiseach Leo Varadkar pledged...

Two far-left rioters who pleaded guilty to burning down an Atlanta Wendy’s during the Black Lives Matter riots in 2020 have been sentenced to five years of probation by a Fulton County judge. The Wendy’s was the site of the fatal, officer-involved shooting of Rayshard Brooks on June 12, 2020. Brooks had fallen asleep in the drive thru and attacked the responding Atlanta Police Officer, Garret Rolfe, when he was detained. Brooks was shot and killed after he tried to grab Rolfe’s taser, leading to riots not long after George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis. Atanta’s BLM chapter, along with other...

A former FBI informant stabbed Derek Chauvin, the ex-police officer who was convicted for murdering George Floyd, according to court documents filed on Dec. 1. John Turscak, 52, stabbed Mr. Chauvin 22 times with an "improvised knife" in federal prison in Arizona, according to the documents. Mr. Turscak was subdued by responding corrections officers. Mr. Turscak later told officers he would have killed Mr. Chauvin if the officers had not responded so quickly, federal prosecutors said in the documents. The stabbing took place on Nov. 24 at about 12:30 p.m. Mr. Turscak waived his Miranda rights and told FBI agents...

DUBLIN — Overlooked in the chaotic situation that unfolded in recent days, Irish citizens made history as they engaged in violent rioting while completely sober for the first time ever. "This is truly unprecedented," said Professor Blake Rumsey, sociologist and lead historian at the Institute of Knowledge. "Throughout recorded history, we've never seen this type of Irish upheaval in the absence of copious amounts of beer, whiskey, and Bailey's Irish Cream. It is both surprising and impressive to see Irish citizens proving their collective ability to stage a riot while not the least bit intoxicated." Irish citizens in Dublin began...

The newly released J6 footage is a revelation because it shows that the “insurrection” was not by, of, and for the people, it was by, of, and for the government. When it comes to events inside the Capitol, there’s growing evidence that the violence came not from the people peacefully and reverentially wandering around but from law enforcement. Certainly, the most recent footage appears to bear that out. There are two narratives about January 6. The dominant one is the Democrat narrative. Practically within minutes of events on January 6, every Democrat politician and media outlet was claiming an “insurrection.”...

Disorder has broken out in Dublin city centre, amid anger about the attack. One of the children and a woman are being treated for serious injuries, police said. A suspect has been detained. Police have said a "complete hooligan lunatic faction driven by far-right ideology" is behind violent protests in Dublin after three young children were injured in a stabbing outside a primary school. Protesters have let off flares and fireworks at police as one of the children, a five-year-old girl, and a woman in her 30s are being treated in hospital for serious injuries.
