R. Lee Ermey will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. January 18, 2019. Ronald Lee Ermey (Gunnery Sgt. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket and reality TV) was born in Kansas but moved to the Yakima Valley in his early teens going to schools in Granger while the rest of his family attended classes in Zillah. A feisty kid with a penchant for getting into trouble, when he was 17, a judge offered him juvenile detention or the military. Ermey chose the Marines. You may recall he died back in April but his Arlington Cemetery...

A scene from the series Space Above and Beyond series pilot. R. Lee Ermey portraying a drill instructor. Space Above and Beyond lasted one season, but deserved better, I was and excellent blend of SciFi and War story. Gunny's passing reminded me both of the series and the fact he was in the first episode.

Actor R. Lee Ermey, who died at 74 of pneumonia Sunday morning, was Exhibit A in the New Hollywood Blacklist. After criticizing Barack Obama in 2010, Ermey’s thriving film career dried up. Even after apologizing, he was ostracized, fired by GEICO insurance and never did another commercial. After disappearing completely for a few years, he managed to appear in a couple of reality shows in the last few years of his life. Iconic and talented, Ermey was a walking-talking example of left-wing Hollywood’s intolerance toward those they condemn as thought criminals. Ermey, who was known to his friends as “Gunny,”...

It’s hard to think of many actors who became as legendary as R. Lee Ermey did for just 40 minutes of screen time. From the moment he first strolled through the milky gray barracks of “Full Metal Jacket” as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, screaming into the faces of his recruits, popping off taunts like firecrackers, you knew in your bones — you just knew — that you could forget every movie drill sergeant you’d ever seen. This is what those guys were really like. Everything about Ermey seemed to be made of leather: his face, his neck, his vocal cords, his...

"Do you realize I have not done a movie in five to six years? Why? Because I was totally blackballed by the... liberals in Hollywood," he alleged. "They can destroy you. They're hateful people [who] don't just not like you, they want to take away your livelihood... that's why I live up in the dessert on a dirt road... I don't have to put up with their crap."

Gunny Ermey tells it the way it is: I gotta tell you folks we are having a big problem this year. The economy really sucks! I hate to point fingers at anybody but the present Administration probably had a lot to do with that. And the way I see it they are not going to quit doing it until they bring this Country to it's knees. So, I think we should all rise up and stop this Administration from what they're doing, because they're destroying this Country! They're driving us into bankrupcy so they can impose Socialism on us. And...

The famous Marine drill instructor who created a stir last week when he said President Obama was trying to implement socialism has released a statement apologizing for those remarks. R. Lee Ermey said today that his comments were “misguided” and “emotionally based” and for that he is “truly sorry.” His full statement, which is posted on his website as a splash page, is below: A Message from the Gunny “I recently appeared at a fundraising event designed to collect toys and raise awareness for underprivileged children. While that event succeeded in raising thousands of dollars and hundreds of toys for...

Lee Ermey took an opportunity to rail against the Obama administration during a Dec. 10 appearance on Roe & Roeper’s Miracle on Indianapolis Blvd. Holiday Extravaganza live broadcast to benefit the USO. I have to admit, “jackwagon” is now one of my favorite words. It came into my vocabulary courtesy of R. Lee Ermey via the great series of Geico commercials in which a “former Drill Sergeant make[s] a terrible therapist.” Here then is the former Drill Sergeant himself, in an appearance from earlier in the month at a Toys 4 Tots benefit, giving his opinion about President Obama. Warning: it’s not for crybabies! So let’s just let Obama and his crew chug on over to mamby-pamby land, shall we, while we start to take back our nation. With guys like R....

It's with a heavy heart that I find myself writing this about someone I've admired for many years. Ever since "Full Metal Jacket", R. Lee Ermey emboded the image of a hard-ass Marine for most of us. He was a person whose personal life was as interesting as the characters he portrayed. Serving in the Marines from 1961-1972 as a staff seargent, he was later given the honorary rank of gunnery seargent because of his ongoing support of military personnel everywhere, and because of his gritty portrayal of Gunny Hartmann. He had a decorated career before being medically retired...
