House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she will not seek re-election as leader of the House Democratic Conference after nearly 20 years at the helm, after her party narrowly lost the majority in the chamber in the midterm elections. "With great confidence in our caucus, I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress," said Pelosi. "For me the hour has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect, and I'm grateful that so many are ready and willing to shoulder this awesome responsibility."

What was supposed to be a satirical song by the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus at the end of Pride Month has turned into a controversy. Threats of violence aimed at chorus members even forced workers to be sent home early for the week. The video was uploaded to website YouTube last week and it has touched off plenty of debate on social media.

Where are the fact-checkers protecting us from fake news and misinformation? Nancy Pelosi has made an outrageous claim, asserting an authority that she doesn’t have, to pick and choose who gets seated in the House. In 2020, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks narrowly defeated Democrat candidate Rita Hart in November by six votes in an election where over 400,000 ballots were cast. Her victory was certified by the state, and she was provisionally seated by Congress. But the Democrats’ razor-thin majority in the House has Nancy Pelosi trying desperately to pad her majority any way she can, even if that means stealing...

Nancy Pelosi has been reelected speaker of the House by her caucus for the next session of Congress, marking what will be her fourth term with the gavel. The caucus vote was conducted virtually, but Pelosi was approved with a voice vote. Pelosi, 80, did not not face any challenge for her post, but she will also need to secure a simple majority — 218 Democratic votes — by the full House of Representatives in January to be sworn in again as speaker. In 2019, several Democrats voted for someone other than her on the floor, but with a slimmer...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is refusing to denounce socialism as the left-wing ideology continues to drive a wedge within the Democratic Party -- and as she works to lock down enough support for another term as speaker. Socialists have become some of the most high-profile members of the Democratic Party. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who earned the second-most delegates in both the 2016 and 2020 Democratic primaries, thanked socialist groups "for their extraordinary efforts in helping to make Biden's victory possible. The subject of socialism is apparently becoming a growing concern among Democrats behind closed doors. A leaked recording...

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) criticized a CNN reporter on Election Day when he asked about her promise to resign the speakership in 2022. "With all due respect to you and the organization you represent, that's the least important question you could ask today," Pelosi told CNN's Manu Raju Tuesday. "One of these days I'll let you know what my plans are—when it is appropriate and it matters. It doesn't matter right now." While Democrats and the media have united in condemning President Donald Trump's criticism of the media, Pelosi has a long history of attacking journalists...

A wild conference call amongst House Democrats, details of which leaked on Twitter Thursday, shows emotional lawmakers distraught with Nancy Pelosi and the ‘Squad’ over their party’s disastrous election performance. Democrats had expected to pick up 10-15 seats on election day and have instead seen Republicans gain six net seats while being on track to net 10 seats overall. Several members of the caucus “angrily confronted” Pelosi over the losses and blasted radical progressives for tying the party to efforts to “defund the police” and “socialism.”

“Billionaires added hundreds of hundreds of billions to their wealth during a pandemic.” On Tuesday, the people of San Francisco will decide whether the city should tax companies for paying their CEOs too much money. Progressive lawmaker Matt Haney introduced the “Overpaid Executive Tax” to the SF Board of Supervisors in June to better protect the city’s health care system from the COVID-19 threat. His colleagues unanimously agreed to put his idea before voters on the November ballot, listed as Proposition L. The measure requires a simple majority for passage. “Billionaires added hundreds of hundreds of billions to their wealth...

*** A week before the election — and potentially weeks before the outcome is known — California Democrats are elbowing each other for the chance to sway Newsom on how to fill the state’s junior senator seat should Joe Biden and Harris (D-Calif.) head to the White House. At least a dozen California Democrats are seriously in the mix, and their supporters, donors and staffers are jostling behind the scenes to make their case. In this deep-blue state, where no Republican has won statewide in 14 years, a Senate seat could be the closest it gets to a lifetime appointment....

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been drawing his full monthly salary despite asking state workers in May to take a pay cut to alleviate the state’s burden in fighting the coronavirus pandemic. Though elected state officials are exempt from such pay cuts, Newsom pledged that he would voluntarily slash his salary when he asked state workers to make that same sacrifice. But a Thursday report from the Sacramento Bee revealed that Newsom has continued drawing his full monthly salary of $17,479. A spokesman for Newsom's office blamed the matter on an "administrative error." "The Governor publicly committed to taking the same pay cut as other state...

If you live in California, Thanksgiving is going to look a lot different this year, and be a lot less fun. The California Department of Public Health released its new guidelines for Turkey Day, and each rule is more insane than the last. See below for some of the more outlandish guidelines that Californians will have to comply with next month as they try to kick off the holiday season. All gatherings must include no more than three households, including hosts and guests, and must be held outdoors, lasting for two hours of less. "The longer the duration [of the...

As the U.S. Senate on Monday voted 52-48 to confirm Trump-appointed Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve on the nation's nine-member Supreme Court, the four progressive congresswomen comprising the so-called Squad advocated for increasing the number of justices on the nation's high court. House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called on Congress to “reverse the damage” done by a “radical Republican court” after Senate Republicans voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court Monday evening. She also called the seat “usurped,” suggesting that the seat was taken illegally or by force, and claimed that Republicans were trying to “destroy” Americans’ health care with Barrett’s confirmation.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar on Monday tweeted 'expand the court' just moments after Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed by the Senate. Cortez added: 'Republicans do this because they don't believe Dems have the stones to play hardball like they do. And for a long time they've been correct. But do not let them bully the public into thinking their bulldozing is normal but a response isn't. There is a legal process for expansion.' Her initial tweet was reposted by fellow squad member Ilhan Omar, who also wrote: 'Expand the court.' House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: 'Should we expand the...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Nancy Pelosi once predicted she’d have the 2020 House Democratic majority secured by November — of 2019. Now, days before the Nov. 3 election, she seems to have done it, and she’s expanding her reach. With control of the House hardly contested, Pelosi is working to fortify Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and win extra House seats in case Congress is called on to resolve any Electoral College dispute with President Donald Trump. Pelosi said she feels so confident Democrats will keep the House this election, she’s already preparing to win the next one in 2022....
