My apologies if this topic has been covered, I did a search and couldn't find it. Using Chrome, when I click on the "Donate Now" link, I get a message from Chrome: "Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from secure.freerepublic.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Net::ERR_CERT_WEAK_SIGNATURE_ALGORITHM" I assume this message is nonsense, but just wondering what the deal is.

Cuban dictator Fidel Castro reportedly left behind millions in private mansions, yachts, private islands, and even a personal cheese factory. While the Castro family has imposed a mandatory nine-day mourning period over Cuba, questions remain as to who will inherit the head of state’s fortune. While fellow communists and assorted global leftist elites are using the occasion of his death to praise Fidel Castro as a hero of the poor, reports from both defectors within Castro’s world and journalists using publicly available information have estimated the Castro family fortune to be in the millions. The closest realistic number estimating Castro’s net...

That recent poll that showed wide opposition to Obama’s lawless amnesty decrees and support for defunding efforts also asked a third question: “Would you support or oppose Congress passing new legislation that strengthen the rules making it illegal for businesses in the U.S. to hire illegal immigrants?” Support for this was overwhelming, 71–21, far greater than the other questions (strongly support/oppose was 45 percent to 9 percent). (SNIP) So why did the House leadership try to fast-track a border bill (which has been at least temporarily derailed because immigration hawks objected to its phoniness) instead of passing an E-Verify mandate?...
  • 700 miles of U.S.-Mexico border still insecure, congressional investigators say

Less than 3 percent of illegal immigrants will ever be deported, and more than 700 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border remained unsecured as of 2014, according to Sen. Tom Coburn’s final oversight report released Saturday morning, which found the Homeland Security Department failing in several of its top missions. The report also said corruption is a serious problem in the Border Patrol, but said agency officials actually told internal affairs investigators to cut down on the number of cases they were pursuing, according to the former division head. In another finding Mr. Coburn’s staff on the Senate Homeland Security Committee...

Clearly, given the security issues at hand, this is as solid of ground for the impeachment of Barack Obama as the country could ever have. He cannot refuse his obligation to keep the country secure for any reason, LEAST of all for a political one, and not be impeached. Time to get it done. ISIS is going to nuke the U.S. with a dirty bomb they carry across Barack Obama’s open Mexican border. “The problem is, . . . if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’” [Audible gasps were heard...

LINDSAY, Ont. — There’s going to be the odd time when police can’t help you -- like, say, when you call them to ask how to protect the $6,000 in marijuana plants you’ve got growing in your house. Police said a woman called Wednesday seeking tips on how to prevent someone from breaking into her home and stealing her pot plants. “She didn’t want to get violently robbed,” Sgt. Terry Cox said. It was an odd request, Cox said, and the officer on the other end of the line reminded the woman that she was talking to a police officer...

For years, the Republican base has demanded a more patrolled, better reinforced, and more secure border as a prerequisite to even discussing immigration policy. Janet Napolitano had a message for them at Wednesday’s Senate hearing: Congratulations, you won! “Our borders have, in fact, never been stronger,” Napolitano testified. Boasting of the “unprecedented progress we have made” in border security since the last immigration debate, Napolitano noted that the number of Border Patrol agents had doubled since 2004, border apprehensions had plummeted 78 percent from their 2000 peak, and a variety of new technologies had been deployed to stop illegal crossings....

PHOENIX — Gov. Jan Brewer can’t put a specific definition on what it means to have a secure border. But she said residents along the boundary with Mexico will know it when it happens. The question of what Brewer thinks is politically significant since the governor said she will not support any form of immigration reform unless and until the border is secure. But until now she has offered no definition of what that means. Her comments come as members of her own Republican Party in Congress are pursuing their own immigration reform plans in the wake of the defeat...

Scituate police arrested an illegal immigrant from Brazil for motor-vehicle violations three months before he allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend to death in a brutal attack this week, reigniting debate over whether Massachusetts should participate in the federal Secure Communities program. Police arrested Marcelo Almeida, a 41-year-old laborer, on June 19 on charges of operating without a license and other charges after the black Nissan Maxima he was driving almost collided head on with a police car, according to documents from Hingham District Court. He was later found guilty of unlicensed driving and responsible for other charges. Almeida paid a...

The service will be held at the FPI headquarters in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. According to Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar, the police will guard the event as usual. He added that the FPI did not need to request permission from police to hold the event. “Its an ordinary Koran recital. We can't stop people from praying,” he added, as reported by...

  • VANITY: Apple's App Store not so secure after all

For the last several years Apple has touted the security of its App Store. You could rest assured that any app you purchase from that store had been screened by Apple for acceptable functionality and safety, and that you did not have to ever worry about something bad being in the App Store. Play freely and securely in their walled garden. That's a great story, except for the fact it's not true. Recently a 15 year old App developer released an app that clearly violated a prime rule of the App Store - thou shalt not release a tethering application....

Two iPhone App developers have spotted what appears to be a hacking of the App store rankings by a rogue developer. The rankings in the books category of the US iTunes store features 40 out of 50 apps by the same app developer, Thuat Nguyen. What’s more concerning is that it seems individuals iTunes accounts have been hacked to make mass purchases of that one developer’s apps.

Do you have a PIN code on your iPhone? Well, while that might protect you from someone making a call or fiddling with your apps, it doesn’t prevent access to your data … as long as the person doing the snooping around is using Ubuntu “Lucid Lynx” 10.04. Security experts Bernd Marienfeldt and Jim Herbeck discovered something really interesting when they hooked up a non-jailbroken, fully up-to-date iPhone 3GS to a PC running Lucid Lynx … I uncovered a data protection vulnerability [9], which I could reproduce on 3 other non jail broken 3GS iPhones (MC 131B, MC132B) with different...

Illegal Immigration: The government puts the brakes on a problem-plagued "virtual" fence on our border with Mexico. Whatever happened to the old-fashioned kind? If ever there was a shovel-ready project, this is it. The much-ballyhooed "virtual" fence that was supposed to monitor and control illegal immigration doesn't work and is being scrapped as we evaluate alternatives and rely on existing technology. After years of delay and billions of dollars already spent, Secretary Napolitano on Tuesday halted work on SBInet. The system involves cameras, sensors and radars designed to let a small number of dispatchers watch the border on computer monitors...

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is planning to move several hundred Border Patrol agents away from the U.S.-Mexico border and will not secure a single additional mile of the U.S. border in fiscal 2010, according to the department’s annual performance report.

The document—“Department of Homeland Security Annual Performance Report: Fiscal Years 2008-2010”—was originally published by the Bush administration on Jan. 15 and was updated by the Obama administration on May 7.

Excluding the border between Alaska and Canada, the combined length of the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada is about 6,000 miles (with almost 2,000 miles along the...
