In an effort to “stop mass killings by violent terrorists,” Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee proposed a bill that would require patrons undergo a criminal background check before obtaining “a large capacity ammunition feeding device” or a “semiautomatic assault weapon.” According to the bill, the measure would amend federal law to prohibit the transfer “until the Attorney General has verified that the prospective transferee has truthfully answered questions about whether the prospective transferee has been contacted recently by Federal law enforcement authorities.
