The Arizona Cardinals are set to hire Kliff Kingsbury as their new head coach, according to Peter Schrager of FOX Sports. In December, Kingsbury was named offensive coordinator at the University of Southern California after being fired from his head-coaching role at Texas Tech. Following the conclusion of the NFL regular season, the Cardinals and New York Jets had expressed interest in hiring Kingsbury for their head-coaching vacancies. However, the Trojans reportedly did not initially grant Kingsbury permission to interview with either club. He went on to eventually meet with both teams.

A woman trying to protect herself from an alleged dog attack instead got bitten by a human. The incident occurred on the Goldenrod Trail at the Anthony Chabot Regional Park in Oakland, California, on Thursday, January 3. The runner attempted to defend herself when a dog reportedly attacked her on the trail by spraying it with pepper spray. Then, the dog’s owner approached the runner, and “a physical altercation ensued,” according to an alert by the East Bay Regional Park District Police. The dog’s owner bit the runner, a police spokesman told Runner’s World. The suspect also tackled and punched...

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — With stunning ease — and a freshman quarterback — Clemson toppled college football’s greatest dynasty again to become the first perfect playoff champion.

Trevor Lawrence passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns and the second-ranked Tigers beat No. 1 Alabama 44-16 on Monday night in the College Football Playoff national championship game.

By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Nick Saban knew his seventh national title would not come on this night. He stalked the Alabama sideline as he always does, barking into his headset and at anyone within earshot. There was nothing he could do. The greatest coach in college football history watched his team get outplayed, out-lucked — and, yes, outcoached. "I just had a feeling that I didn't do a very good job," Saban said. "I never really ever got comfortable with what we needed to do to win this game."

The throw left Trevor Lawrence’s hand at the Clemson 12-yard line in the first quarter of the College Football Playoff title game on Monday night. It landed in receiver Tee Higgins’ hands on the Alabama 45-yard line, the first dazzling completion for Lawrence on a night defined by them. But it wasn’t just the pass to Higgins that left jaws agape, NFL front offices drooling and the Alabama defense backfield shredded. It was the way the ball left his hand – as if it were shot out of a laser gun, whistling 43 yards with barely any arc and somehow...

At half, Clemson is winning 31 to 16. Alabama quarterback Tua has thrown 2 picks, and Alabama has missed an extra point. Georgia Dawg... kind of rooting for the SEC, but it wouldn't kill me if they lost.

CLEMSON, S.C. -- The most significant plate of eggs and bacon in the recent history of Clemson football was eaten a day after the Tigers' route of Georgia Tech on Sept. 22, at Sunnyside Cafe, just down the road from campus, and was shared between the veteran leader of the defense and the young kid about to take over the offense. Trevor Lawrence had just ascended to the throne after months of speculation about the future of Clemson's quarterback job. Christian Wilkins had been the unquestioned voice of the locker room for years, and the defensive tackle wanted to offer...

Two days after her 21st birthday on May 25, 2018, Anastasia Soule was lying in an emergency room in New Orleans, Louisiana. She didn’t see it coming. And she definitely wasn’t prepared for what came next. Before things went south, the weekend was set to be the ultimate mother-daughter getaway. Soule, a senior studying economics and public policy at the University of North Carolina, had planned a vacation to New Orleans with her mom, opting for a few relaxed days exploring the Southern city instead of a rowdy trip with friends. But from the moment their plane landed on Thursday,...

Clemson's Christian Wilkins will end his fourth and final season with the Tigers the same way he has ended each of the prior three: with a showdown against Alabama, and for the third time it comes in the College Football Playoff National Championship presented by AT&T (Monday, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN/ESPN App). "I guess the only comparison is the Rocky movies," he said. "I know after three it's a trilogy. But what's four?" It's a good question, though it's doubtful Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney have spent much time researching it. The on-field questions, however, deserve plenty of attention. Sure,...

Ted Turner, owner of the Atlanta Braves, has been suspended by baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn for tampering while trying to obtain the services of former San Francisco outfielder Gary Mathews. A spokesman for the commissioner said today the Atlanta owner would be suspended for one year, but no date has yet been set for the start of the suspension. Mathews was the Braves' first choice in the Nov. 4 re-entry draft, and he has signed a contract with the team. Turner, 38, reached in Atlanta, said he had been notified that the Braves must fortfeit their first round choice in...

January 6, 2019, will be the (appropriately) silver anniversary of the day figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was whacked on the right leg by an unknown assailant. Video taken shortly after the attack reveals Kerrigan in anguish on the floor of a corridor in a Detroit sports arena, famously wailing, “Why? Why?” and then explaining to medical personnel that she’d been hit with something “really, really hard.” It turned out to be a police baton used by an associate of the husband of Kerrigan’s skating rival, Tonya Harding. The perp was quickly caught, and the ensuing investigation implicated a number of...

Not sure on their excerpt policy- so I'll just post the link here, and point out that in their report, they make no mention of the fact that this pitcher donated this property to a Christian camp, Camp Barnabas, and don't mention the fact that this camp puts Christ first, and always "points people to Christ in everything we do". This is an old story from 2017, but thought it was pretty cool.

Growing up, my parents, brother and I went to church every Sunday. Maybe it goes without saying but, as a kid, I wasn’t going to church for myself; I was going to church because that’s just what we did on Sundays. I didn’t know any different. From an early age, I always knew about God and Jesus. I suppose by taking my brother and I to church each week, my parents made sure of that. But, despite great church attendance, I didn’t know what it meant to be a Christian or have a relationship with God. I guess you could...

The score? Not as important as the 20-second video below. It shows a basketball player from Augustana College dribbling down the court with a player from North Central College in hot pursuit. As the Augustana player goes to shoot, Blaise Meredith, the player from North Central, jumps to block the shot. He stuffed it. But then he got stuffed… by the backboard.

Alabama's offense has scored more points than ever for a myriad of reasons. Tua Tagovailoa had the best statistical season for a Crimson Tide quarterback, thanks in part to the best set of skill-position players the program has ever collected. But perhaps the biggest reason is Nick Saban's willingness to get more aggressive passing the ball. "We may have to score more points to win this season than we have in the past," Saban told ESPN's Chris Lowe before the season. As Alabama prepares to face Clemson on Monday to determine this season's national championship, Saban's inkling has proven to...

With title-game ticket prices plummeting more than 90 percent, should college football be worried? Ticket prices on the secondary market for Monday’s college football national title game are cratering – get-in prices hit $150 Tuesday on StubHub and experts say it should continue to drop. By comparison, last year’s get-in price peaked at about $1,700. “Prices are trending lower than we have ever seen before,” SeatGeek.com’s Chris Leyden told Yahoo Sports. “Demand is down.”

Floyd Mayweather knocked Tenshin Nasukawa out in the opening round as their big-money fight turned into a farce. Kickboxing star Nasukawa was left crying in his own corner after being sent tumbling to the canvas three times in the first two minutes of the fight on New Year’s Eve in Saitama, Japan. Mayweather, 41, boasted about earning $9 million dollars to take on Japan’s golden boy — and he collected his money with minimum fuss after making his opponent look foolish. When the first bell sounded the unbeaten five-weight class boxing champion strolled out with a grin on his face...
