But yesterday He and three athletes who finished just behind him were stripped of their medals after video of the finish suggested the other three runners let him win. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Herzog has passed away, citing information from an official with the Cardinals. Several other media outlets, including The Athletic, have also confirmed. Whitey Herzog managed the Cardinals for 11 seasons from 1980 to 1990, winning a World Series title in 1982 and National League pennants in 1985 and 1987.
