Scientists believe Tangier Island, in the Virginia waters of the Chesapeake Bay, could vanish within the next 25 years. Two-thirds of Tangier's land mass has disappeared since the time of the Civil War, and in recent years sea-level rise caused by global warming took more acres from the island. Fewer than 500 people remain there. Many of them voted for Donald J. Trump, share his rejection of climate change as the reason for their existential challenge and insist that a seawall around the island would save it from further "wave erosion." The deeply religious islanders have frequently been in the...

Al Gore was challenged on climate science Tuesday night when the mayor of Tangier Island, a community threatened by coastal erosion, told the environmentalist film producer he hadn’t seen the sea level change since he began his first career as a commercial crabber in 1970. Gore was taking questions from the audience on a CNN town hall with Anderson Cooper when the fisherman and Tangier Island mayor James Eskridge refuted Gore’s assertion that rising sea levels were endangering coastal communities. “I’m a commercial crabber and I’ve been working the Chesapeake Bay for 50+ years. I have a crab house business...
  • Trump calls Tangier mayor, says not to worry about sea-level rise

The mayor of the tiny Chesapeake Bay island community of Tangier says President Donald Trump called him after seeing a news report about the threat the Virginia village faces from sea-level rise. Trump — who was overwhelmingly backed by Tangier residents in November — called Mayor James “Ooker” Eskridge after CNN reported on the island last week, according to The Daily Times of Salisbury, Md. “It was unreal,” said Eskridge, who spoke with the president Monday afternoon. According to the mayor, Trump introduced himself and told Eskridge: “You’ve got one heck of an island there.”
  • Al Gore Schooled on Climate Change By the Mayor of an Eroding Virginia Island

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! It's that level of panic climate change alarmists like professionally monotone former Vice President Al Gore want everyone to rise to. But when people like Gore are called out on their rhetorical hot garbage, it they just tend to double down on their stance. Gore was speaking at a town hall event, moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, to talk about climate change. Go figure. It couldn’t have been a coincidence that CNN would host Gore for a town hall days after his new documentary, “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,” saw a...
  • Delingpole: Liberals to Trump-Supporting Tangier Island ‘We Hope You Drown

Angry liberals are wishing death on a tiny, vanishing island in Chesapeake Bay because its inhabitants mostly support Donald Trump and refuse to think correct thoughts about climate change. Tangier Island in the middle of Chesapeake Bay, about an hour’s boat ride from the Virginia mainland, rises only a few feet above the waterline and has been slowly eroded by the sea since it was first colonized in the 1600s. Now its 500 remaining residents are desperate for federal support because it is on the verge of disappearing.
