Delingpole: Liberals to Trump-Supporting Tangier Island ‘We Hope You Drown
breitbart.com ^ | 7/10/2017 | James Delingpole

Angry liberals are wishing death on a tiny, vanishing island in Chesapeake Bay because its inhabitants mostly support Donald Trump and refuse to think correct thoughts about climate change.

Tangier Island in the middle of Chesapeake Bay, about an hour’s boat ride from the Virginia mainland, rises only a few feet above the waterline and has been slowly eroded by the sea since it was first colonized in the 1600s. Now its 500 remaining residents are desperate for federal support because it is on the verge of disappearing.

Well, to be fair, the ever intolerant ecowankers want all "deniers" to meet some sort of horrible untimely demise via some terrible weather related method. Drowning, burning, freezing. Anything that'll show us how wrong we are/were to NOT believe.

1. Is the island really “drowning”?
2. Even if it is drowning, what is more likelihood? An insignificant island in the Atlantic being taken over by the sea, naturally, or evil man made hydrocarbon emissions causing the planet to heat up so that it melts the icecaps and raises sea levels? Occam razor.

There’s also a still ongoing settling due to the retreating ice sheets at the end of the last advance of same.

Maybe they’re close to their “tipping” point.

has been slowly eroded by the sea since it was first colonized in the 1600s.

They should have complained to the guy in charge back in 1600.

"Since 1850, it has lost 67% of its land mass." Well duh...it's not like the ocean waters are standing still. Only two things can happen....either you gain land mass or you lose land mass.

I believe they are always dredging along the sea shore. Then there are the man made barriers.

FAKE news. The photos at the article don’t show any such thing.

Googling images on the island show tons of old weathered docks still being used today. Guess what? They are all still above water.

Also an article at businessinsider.com says “The island is reachable only by boat” yet they have an airstrip. I think you can also get there by airplane.

http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-tangier-island-disappearing-sea-level-rise-2017-6/#tangier-island-has-been-losing-ground-to-erosion-for-hundreds-of-years-but-the-combination-of-rising-sea-levels-and-more-severe-weather-both-augmented-by-climate-change-have-increased-the-rate-of-land-loss-1

Natural forces like erosion, tides, ocean currents, father time, wind, rain, freeze/thaw cycle, etc.

There is no such thing as man/human caused global climate change so that can not be a factor of this island’s problems.

They'll never admit that there is a huge difference between erosion and rising sea levels. Coastal islands in many places tend to be ephemeral. What the sea giveth, the sea can taketh away, sometimes in as little as a few hours. I recall reading a few weeks ago about some beach that had disappeared due to a storm a few years ago. Another storm recently recreated it. I'm sure they were blaming global warming on it's disappearance, but somehow forget to comment about it's reappearance.

From erosion and not global warming which happens along all sea shores evertually. But if it makes dem happy the dems can always have them make new islands for dems. I’d be happy to sea dem go:-)

Tangier Island is part of Virginia, in the Cheaspeake Bay. Nice place with more relaxed life style and good people.

Moral of the story, don’t build houses on a floating rock. It may not float for much longer. Sorry for those losing their houses, but nobody forced them to settle there. No need to use tax dollars to literally give them a bail out.
