For the longest time, I’ve considered myself a Sopranos superfan. Perhaps THE Sopranos superfan. As a teenager, I followed the New Jersey mafia drama since its debut 20 years ago this week – Jan. 10, 1999 – often employing illegal online file-sharing services to download the episodes, as my parents wouldn’t fork over the money to subscribe to the Movie Network (Canada’s HBO equivalent) so a 16-year-old could learn about the subtle art of “waste management.” In the years since creator David Chase inflamed America with his infamous cut-to-black series finale, I’ve rewatched my precious Sopranos DVD box-sets over and...

Bryan Cranston defended playing a quadriplegic in his upcoming movie “The Upside,” saying taking on the role was a “business decision” amid the growing debate about expanding casting in Hollywood. Cranston told the Press Association that he’s aware of “the need to expand opportunities” to others when it comes to casting specific roles, but as an actor, he has the right to take on characters with different attributes and abilities. In “The Upside,” Cranston plays a wealthy quadriplegic who hires a caretaker, played by Kevin Hart, to help him on his daily routine. "We live in the world of criticism,...

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is firing back at Christian Bale after the actor said during a Golden Globes acceptance speech that Satan inspired him when he played her father, Dick Cheney. While accepting an award in the “Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy” category late Sunday, the “Vice” star said to laughs from the crowd, “Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role.” A chuckling Bale also blasted Dick Cheney and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as “charisma-free [expletive]” during his fiery remarks. After the awards ceremony, Liz Cheney, 52,...

“The Last Days of JFK Jr.,” a two-hour special promising new details and new interviews under the ABC News banner, aired Thursday night. Not only did the program soft-pedal Kennedy’s complete and utter fault for the crash but it got crucial details wrong — claiming that the FAA said flying conditions that night were “excellent” (according to the National Transportation Safety Board review of the crash, they were extremely poor, and JFK Jr. would have known it), and that his flight instructor was unavailable that night to fly with him. In fact, the NTSB report said one of Kennedy’s instructors...

The movie awards season is kicking off, as Hollywood celebrates itself for the next couple of months. To break up that effusive monotony, people like me look in the other direction. There was plenty of garbage released into theaters in 2018, so recognizing those misfires is always a lark.

Jon Levine -- the media editor for the entertainment site The Wrap -- has penned an opinion piece for The New York Post that's sure to get him a glare or two at the office on Monday.Levine suggests that conservative actor James Woods might just be what the Academy Awards needs to inject some life into the show's ever-dwindling viewership. With the 2019 Golden Globe Awards now upon us, only one thing is for sure: Not a lot of people are going to watch. Ratings for the event last year fell 5 percent from their 2017 numbers and have fallen three...

Last night’s 76th Golden Globe Awards saw big surprises like Bohemian Rhapsody’s big win for Best Motion Picture, Drama, a big send off for FX’s The Americans, flu shots, a trio of victories for Green Book, some history made by co-host Sandra Oh and a Saturday Night Live alum mock marriage proposal. Clocking in at around three hours and twenty minutes and coming right after a NFL Wild Card playoff game that threatened to run long, the Killing Eve star and Andy Samberg fronted ceremony was a little bit more traditional than usual and never even mentioned Donald Trump once....

Did you also grow up watching, enjoying and whole heartedly laughing at Warner Brothers Looney Tunes cartoon characters? Pepé Le Pew, that skunk with a heavy French accent (courtesy of the legendary voice of Mel Blanc) celebrates his 73rd BD today. ‘...those were the days...’

With the 2019 Golden Globe Awards now upon us, only one thing is for sure: Not a lot of people are going to watch. Ratings for the event last year fell 5 percent from their 2017 numbers and have fallen three out of the last four years. Oscars and Emmys? Even worse, with the 2018 shows declining 20 percent and 10 percent respectively from their 2017 ratings numbers. Reversing this moribund picture calls for more than just tinkering along the edges. How can the creative class convince millions of Americans who have tuned out to give them a second chance?...

I have had it. I just watched the latest episode of "The Orville". But this latest episode, "Primal Urges" pissed me off to NO end. Let's forget the overall subject of "gay" porn addiction by a completely non-human species, and the total delve into how that affected the ship and crew...and the clear homosexual overtones. I cannot let pass the behavior of the sudo-Klingon character of Bortis who stood by and watched a woman say goodbye to her family...husband and son...of which there was a good 30-60 second scene...and our Uber Macho "hero" did NOTHING to save her. His behavior...given...

The CW’s Batwoman project is going to the next level — and a big name from Game of Thrones is getting on board. The network has given a pilot pickup order to Batwoman, starring Ruby Rose, who first appeared as the character in the network’s DC crossover event last month. Emmy-winning director David Nutter will helm the pilot. Nutter is best known for his work on Thrones, where he helmed episodes such as “The Rains of Castamere” (a.k.a. The Red Wedding episode) and has multiple episodes coming up in the show’s final season. Nutter is also know around Hollywood...

I’ve previously written about how celebrities are ruining Twitter with their political and hate speech. For my last post of 2018, I’ve compiled a special list of Hollywood has-beens who are desperately trying to remain relevant despite Hollywood careers that are well beyond their expiration dates. 10. Rosie O'Donnell I guess she’s a celebrity… or was. I don’t know. She’s been in a few movies you’ve probably seen. The only two that come to mind are Sleepless in Seattle and A League of Their Own… but for sure, she had a briefly successful stint in Hollywood in the 1990s as...

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, The Ellen DeGeneres Show will serve as the first stop on the Great Kevin Hart Redemption Tour of 2019. The actor — who stepped down as host of the Academy Awards last month after refusing to apologize for homophobic remarks from his past — will appear on Ellen DeGeneres‘ talk show on Friday for what she calls an “incredible and honest conversation.” DeGeneres broke the news herself Thursday night, tweeting, “I had an incredible and honest conversation with @KevinHart4real about hosting the #Oscars. It was supposed to air on Monday. I don’t want...

While Hollywood women have made incremental gains in below-the-line jobs like producing and editing, they backslid as feature film directors and continue on a path of “radical underrepresentation” in the industry, a new study says. Martha Lauzen’s “Celluloid Ceiling,” a comprehensive report of women’s behind-the-scenes employment in film run out of San Diego State University, hit on Thursday — and its analysis comes with a blazing criticism that Hollywood’s value shift is only lip service until the industry commits to transparency. “The study provides no evidence that the mainstream film industry has experienced the profound positive shift predicted by so...
