NEW YORK -- New York City police said a 28-year-old Queens man was stabbed in the stomach Friday after he came on to a lesbian in the West Village. Police said Dwayne Buckle was in critical condition Saturday at Saint Vincent's Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his liver. Investigators said Buckle was stabbed after he stopped a 19-year-old woman and told her she was pretty. The Daily News reported in its Saturday editions that Buckle, who the paper described as a “DVD bootlegger in the West Village,” spat on the 4-foot-11 woman after she rebuffed him. According to police,...

(AP) HOUSTON -- A letter to inmate No. 1352951 and a cell phone bill for $76.63, both found in a soggy New Orleans duplex ruined by Hurricane Katrina, led Louisiana bounty hunter James Martin to Texas. Again. It marked the seventh time since Katrina that Martin, whose pursuit of bail jumpers often begins with clues salvaged from abandoned New Orleans homes, has followed a trail to Texas. "I don't think Texas really knows what they got," Martin said. Katrina sent a lot of bad guys to Texas, as Houston is finding out. Houston took in 150,000 evacuees -- the most...

A rap song sparked a nightclub shooting between rival gangs that had declared a truce to celebrate a birthday, leaving two men dead and four injured, police said. The song — Put Yo Hood Up by Lil' Jon & The East Side Boyz — urges listeners to flash hand signs for their neighborhood and confront rivals. It was played before Sunday's shooting, said Deputy Chief Alfredo Saldaña

A riot broke out in Orlando overnight. Police were making what seemed to be a routine arrest, but they wound up outnumbered 200 to 10. "I don't remember something escalating to this level of violence for the last 10 to 15 years." It looked like a simple drug bust at the Palms Apartments on Mercy Drive. However, Lieutenant Laura Houston says things started getting wild when Orlando police tried to take the suspects into custody. "Another guy came up and started interfering with that arrest." That man said he wouldn't let police arrest the two suspects; one of the suspects...

It was kill or be killed. Boom. Boom. Officer John Timothy Franko wanted to live, to come home to his wife, his 3-year-old daughter, his son, who was only 4 months old. Franko was 25 years old. He had been an Independence cop for only six months. That Oct. 17, 1975, he had stopped a hit-skip suspect in a crowded Perkins Pancake House. The man drew a gun and smashed it into Franko's forehead. As blood ran down his face, Franko fired two shots. Officers took his gun and badge and drove him home. He broke the news to his...

NEW ORLEANS -- Jane Anderson misses the old days _ the days right after Hurricane Katrina when National Guardsmen with rifles roamed the street outside the New Orleans shop where she works. The days when there weren't many people around and crime was down sharply. "I know it's still pretty safe," Anderson says. "But it doesn't feel that way. We're hearing about more things happening, more murders, more bad guys returning." Murder is making a comeback in New Orleans. The city had 30 murders this year through April. That is less than half of the 81 recorded during the first...

The four teenaged punks who chased an NYU student into the path of an oncoming car looked and laughed as he lay on the street dying, a prosecutor revealed yesterday. "They didn't call for an ambulance. They didn't call for help. Rather, they stood on the street corner and laughed," prosecutor Joel Seidemann said of the 13- and 15-year-olds who chased Broderick John Hehman into traffic. Hehman, 20, died four days later from his massive head injuries. And the wolf-pack thugs, who allegedly laid in wait for their victim, could have even more to smile about now. Prosecutors lost their...

There's no helping you. This site is now just a diversion -- like a train wreck. This site is inherently for and about raving egomaniacs, and Jim's site policies -- which amount to excluding reality and actual dialogue in favor of political/militaristic pornography -- is conducive to cognitive dissonance, which at the times your worldview is threatened leads you into psychotic breaks (on the political cognitive plane, that is, and just maybe in other realms too). Not to mention that your baseline politics is based in mythology about American demographics, science, economics, ethics etc. You spoonfeed each other in the...

Some of my leftist friends have one thing in common with the Muslims now sacking foreign embassies: a fundamental lack of understanding as to how democracy works, and how precious it is. The leftists have grown up knowing nothing but freedom and opulence, and take things like the Bill of Rights, Federalist Papers, and Constitution for granted (if they have even read these hallowed documents). The Muslim radicals (Islamists) are throwing lit jugs full of gasoline at Danish embassies because they have known nothing except Big Brother (One Newspaper, One Nation, One Religion, One World), and do not even know...

An uprising at Orleans Parish Prison and widespread looting contributed to a deteriorating situation in Louisiana's largest city Tuesday in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina Tuesday, according to witnesses and second-hand accounts from evacuees. SNIP Thomas said he confirmed with New Orleans police that an uprising - and possible “hostage situation” - took place at the parish prison sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. Details were sketchy, but Thomas believes the uprising took place when prisoners were being evacuated in the storm's aftermath. It's not clear how many prisoners were involved, or how many hostages were taken, as Thomas said...

Cheers erupt as 30,000 bottles worth of Spanish wine gush out of the hijacked tanker, pumping a blood-red river down the street of a village in the south of France. In front of our eyes, the region's wine "terrorists" - blamed for a string of recent bomb and incendiary attacks - have struck again.Clearly shaken, the tanker's Spanish driver looks on as about 100 angry wine-growers force his younger assistant to unscrew a silver wheel on the tanker's roof to release its pungent load."I count myself lucky," says the driver, Francico Paque, 42, who was asleep in his cabin earlier when...

New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) has long been rumored as desperately seeking the democratic nomination for president in 2008. And while many political observers fully expect the power hungry former First Lady to hit the campaign trail within only a few months of being re-elected as a US Senator in 2006, US News & World report claims to have a confirmation of sorts. From USNews.Com's Washington Whispers: Hillary's in… You don't have to take it from us about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton 's desire to run for president. Her brothers, Hugh and Tony Rodham, say it's true. Friends...

Putin: Ally or Terrorist? by William F. Jasper Counting Vladimir Putin as an ally against terrorism ignores his career in the murderous KGB/FSB and his ongoing support for terrorist regimes and organizations. ‘‘Lena Goncharuk, aged 38, said that she was the only one to survive out of a group of six who were ordered out of the cellar where they had been hiding and shot at point blank range. Resting in her hospital bed, her voice barely rising above a whisper, she said she had survived only by pretending to be dead." So reported Paul Wood from the Chechen border...

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The parents of a first-grader are fuming over the book their daughter brought home from the school library: a children's story about a prince whose true love turns out to be another prince. Michael Hartsell said he and his wife, Tonya, couldn't believe it when Prince Bertie, the leading character in ``King & King,'' waves off a bevy of eligible princes before falling for Prince Lee. The book ends with the princes marrying and sharing a kiss. ``I was flabbergasted,'' Hartsell said. ``My child is not old enough to understand something like that, especially when it is...
