A Rhode Island hospital is dealing with a Covid-19 outbreak with patients after it asked staff who had tested positive, but were asymptomatic, to come in due to a staffing shortage. Eleanor Slater Hospital, a state-run facility with campuses in Cranston and Burrillville, reported it had 28 infected patients as of Thursday, according to the Boston Globe. The hospital has roughly 200 patients. On Saturday, the hospital had two Covid-positive staff members come into work and three on Monday, according to a memo posted on the official Rhode Island state website. "The decision to utilize covid-positive staff who are asymptomatic...

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- No charges will be filed against John Saul for the shooting death of Cesar Chavira back in May. A coroner's inquest recommended no charges be filed and the prosecutor's office followed that recommendation. The paperwork with the prosecutor's decision can be found here. Chavira was shot multiple times in the back from a far distance as he left the New York Store on Isaacs in Walla Walla. The inquest was held to involve a jury of Saul's peers to determine if criminal charges were warranted. Saul had been asleep at the time Chavira had broken in....

I'm up with relatives in the Walla Walla, WA. area and ventured over to the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days Parade. I've been to it before and it seemed bigger than usual this year. As the entries went by one by one, it all lead up to the grand finale' which resulted in the ultimate in patriotism. First, a group of Tea Party Patriots marched by and they received a warm response from the spectators along the parade route. Following the Patriots was the first half of the motorcycle club called the Combat Veterans of America. They too received...

Walla Walla's County Board of Commissioners is now engaged in a Priorities of Government (POG) exercise, asking the question: What is the most efficient way to ensure citizens receive human services? To answer this question, commissioners authorized a study to find out the effects of competitive bidding the Department of Human Services' (DHS) functions to a non-governmental, non-profit entity. The study concluded that without a decrease in service, competitive bidding of DHS services would reduce the size of county government by 46 full-time, benefited employees and 22 part-time and on-call employees. The county also would move from direct to indirect...
