Independent voters are breaking for Republican candidates less than two weeks before the November 8 midterm elections. According to CBS/YouGov polling from October 12 to 14, independent voters preferred generic congressional Democrat candidates over Republican ones by 40 percent to 38 percent. However, in a second poll from October 26 to 28, independents said they preferred generic congressional Republican candidates over Democrat candidates by 49 percent to 33 percent. This means that Republicans saw an 18-point swing in their favor among independent voters over a two-week period.

Hamas leader Moussa Abu Marzouk accused Israel on Tuesday night of having trying to eliminate the head of the group's “military wing”, Mohammed Deif, in one of its airstrikes on Gaza. Airbus said on Thursday it had discovered more cracks in the wings of A380 superjumbo aircraft but insisted the world's largest jetliner remained safe to fly. The announcement comes two weeks after tiny cracks were first reported in the wings of the 525-seat, double-decker aircraft, which entered service just over four years ago. A stunt wing walker fell to his death while attempting to cross from a bi-plane to a helicopter during the Selfridge Air Show this afternoon in Harrison Township.
