A new generation of Republicans is needed to restore the party to its principles of limited government and individual freedom, Dan Zwonitzer say. The 28-year-old state representative from Cheyenne said that is why he intends to seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. House next year. Rep. Barbara Cubin (R-Wyo.) has virtually no money left in her campaign account after raising only $11,000 in the entire third quarter. She ended the third quarter with $8,651 cash-on-hand. Her meager fundraising will continue to fuel speculation that the seven-term lawmaker may not run for re-election. Despite running in the heavily Republican state of Wyoming, Cubin has faced serious Democratic challenges in recent years. Wyoming Republicans have jumped their caucuses up to January 5th and Thompson campaign spokesman Jeff Sadosky said Thompson wants to start gathering support in the state based on his "consistent conservative" record. As Wyoming prepared to mourn the late Sen. Craig Thomas (R.-WY), who died last week at 74, the state's unique succession process was quietly beginning to take effect. Under the state law, when a Senate vacancy occurs, the governor must appoint a sucessor from the same party as the previous holder of the seat. Accordingly, the 71-member Republican state committee will meet on June 15th and submit three names. Democratic Gov. Rep. Barbara Cubin, R-Wyo., has begun fundraising for 2008 but has not yet publicly said whether she will run for re-election, although one challenger has already announced his campaign. With all but a few precincts reporting, U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin declared victory over Democratic challenger and Wilson resident Gary Trauner just after midnight Tuesday. According to the results available at 1 a.m., Cubin led Trauner by a mere 700 votes; 91,385 to 90,685. Wyoming Republican Congresswoman Barbara Cubin has won a substantial but not overwhelming victory over her primary challenger Bill Winney, a retired Navy officer, for the state’s only U.S. House seat. Cubin is leading 42,908 – 60% to Winney's 28,274 – 40% with 91% of the precincts reporting. Using the state Public Records Act, the chairman of the Wyoming Republican Party has asked for state documents in an attempt to show state agencies funneled business to two Cheyenne law firms affiliated with Democratic Gov.
