Public Support for Bush Slips to New Low (AP spin)
Yahoo News ^ | 11/4/2005 | WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush's public support has eroded to its lowest level yet, with the Iraq war dragging on, a top White House aide facing felony charges and the White House rushing to replace a failed Supreme Court nominee.

A new AP-Ipsos poll found the president's approval rating was at 37 percent, compared with 39 percent a month ago. About 59 percent of those surveyed said they disapproved.

The intensity of disapproval is the strongest to date, with 42 percent now saying they "strongly disapprove" of how Bush is handling his job — twice as many as the 20 percent who said they "strongly approve."

"This is the poorest excuse for a president this country has ever had," said Max Hollinberger, a businessman from Stanwood, Wash., who leans Democratic. He cited "the economy, going to war in Iraq for no reason, the way we can get to the tsunami victims before Katrina victims — the whole business."

Even the picture spins the story. President Bush looks like a doof.

Yeah, yeah...

More push polling, stacked demographics, and spun results.

Are there any idiots left in the Nation that still believe AP polls?

Did you see the picture Drudge ran of the President yesterday - "waving goodbye to the country" with just his arms sticking out from behind a pillar?

Fitzgerald didn't deliver all of the promised goodies, so the MSM need to fall back on manufactured "bad news".

Gee, good thing he doesn't have to run again. Poor dems. How many times a day do they trot out these polls? Think it helps their self-esteem?

Aw Geez, Not These Crappy Polls Again. Alright, Once More Into The Breach

The MSM is positively orgasmic over 3 new polls - yes, 3, showing President Bush's approval numbers in the crapper. Gee, do you think that is the reason Reid decided to pull his little stunt this week, and the rest of the lefties got beer muscles and decided to throw sand in the President's eye?

But once again, it is up to us here at ABP to show you why these polls are utterly meaningless when it comes to predicting what voters will do come 2006.

Click READ MORE to continue.

First, the 3 doom and gloom polls.

From The Washington Post: Approve-38% Disapprove-60%

From AP/Ipsos: Approve-37% Disapprove-58%

From CBS News: Approve-35% Disapprove-57%

We're going to forego the usual factors of weekend polling, age and income level of respondents, etc., and just go to party ID of respondents, after telling you that the polls are of "adults", not even "registered voters" or even "likely voters".

Let's just remind you that in 2004 the exit polls showed the party ID of voters at 37% Republicans and Democrats

So, let's get to the numbers shall we.

Party ID of The Washington Post poll respondents: Independent-38% Democrat-31% Republican-27% (Lean- Democrat 52% Republican-41% Independent-6%)

Party ID of AP/Ipsos poll respondents: Democrat-49% Republican-40% Independent 9%

Party ID of CBS News poll respondents (weighted): Independent-41% Democrat-35% Republican-24%

Ok folks, does anything more really need to be said?

UPDATE: Tom Elia of The New Editor shows this kind of imbalance in polls has been going on since July.

It's very clear that Bush has a popularity problem, Freeper denial notwithstanding.

That compromises his ability to lead, and is not a good thing.

If Freepers think that it's a better strategy to dismiss the next years worth of polls, rather than improve the President's (and the GOP's) stature, they are walking into a bloodletting in 2006.

The last time the polls were all wrong, the GOP lost ground in both the house and senate in 1998, when the american people (for better or worse) backed Clinton in the impeachment situation.

Get with it, folks.

I think more people should be aware of what Greenspan's doom and gloom view is for the economy next year, hope the interests rates do not sky rocket, bad enough the holidays are coming with a fat increase for a purchase of the T-Day Turkey, a Fat increase in Airfares and a Huge Bubblebutt
hyke in our heating bills..What's next?

It's amazing. Now the media is reporting the indictment of a White House aide like it's the end of the world. Clinton had 2 cabinet officials indicted, numerous associates, he was impeached himself, Hilary was almost indicted.

I never saw an indictment hyped like poor Libby's. Beware: They still want Rove.

I agree. All the polls are showing Bush has lost all the Democrats (must be doing something right!), most of the independents (not a good thing, because he split them with Kerry last year, but they're unlikely to vote anyway in '06) and a small but growing share of Republicans (this worries me.) That's the state of play. There are several polls showing Bush with ratings in the high 30s, and while I think the 35% is certainly an outlier, it does us no good to pretend this isn't real.

How Bush addresses these numbers is up to him. That's the question. I think he needs to keep us in mind, forget the Democrats, and not waste time on independents who don't like the Democrats either.

You are moving from one thread to another spreading the same lame argument of doom and gloom. Everytime I see you making these comments about polls I will give you the same answer:

Polls of adults are worthless and polls of adults with such a bias toward Democrats or Democrats leaning voters only belong to in the trash can.

The only valid polls are the ones of "likely voters" with the following breakup: 35% R, 35% D, 30% I. Also in order to the polls to be valid the 30% of independents should be equally divided between Red counties and Blue counties and not overwhelmingly picked from blue counties as the liberal media do because a lot of bias in the polls occurs with the selection of independents. Once you get me a poll like this then I will consider it as serious.

I'm looking forward to it as the defense lawyers for Libby will demand information from the CIA and the MSM that neither will be willing to share without being dragged kicking and screaming the whole way to court.

Like Rush said, be careful what you wish for when referring to the MSM starting the whole thing.

This could be a real fun time for us as we observe the meltdown.
