Carney on Kudlow: Tariffs Are Not Inflationary
Breitbart ^ | 05/08/2024 | Pam Key

Posted on 05/08/2024 6:54:37 PM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Breitbart economics editor John Carney said Wednesday on Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow” that “overspending by the federal government” under the Biden administration caused inflation, not tariffs implemented by former President Donald Trump.

Kudlow said, “Because Trump might raise tariffs or use tariffs as a tool to enforce reciprocity, they’re all up in arms saying tariffs will cause inflation but you say they will not?”

Carney said, “They didn’t cause inflation. They screamed about inflation when Trump was president last time around and we didn’t see it. It just didn’t happen. I tracked month after month these numbers, everything you could imagine, the only thing I found went up in price were bicycles. That may have actually been a metal as tariff phenomenon but for the most part television prices went down, car prices went down. We actually got inflation under Biden. So it wasn’t tariffs that caused inflation it was an over accommodative monetary policy from the Fed and overspending by the federal government. That is what caused it.”

Oh No! The Free Traitors like GW MORON and Romney do not want tariffs! Screw main street Americans! The wall street 1%ers need that free trade even if it means destroying American manufacturing and American jobs!

Oh and by the way, the Free Traitors don’t want you to know that TARIFFS FUNDED THE ENTIRE U.S. GOVERNMENT for most of American history.

When the government prints money in order to spend money it does not have, that is inflation. Tariffs are a method of revenue and not a monetary policy. Tariffs are not inflationary.

Many things (critical for national security, able to be made by automated processes) should have to be made in the USA if vended in the USA.

The motor vehicle trade at a minimum should be balanced. Engines Made in the USA might be bartered (within a company) for parts Hecho en Mexico.

The principle should be one of financial balance rather than mere fairness. There are going to be people in the world willing to live on 25% less than you.

Assignable warrants should be initially granted to the US government for say imported steel. If a Chinese company dumps steel the warrant should allow for another future purchase by a warrant buyer within five years at the dumped price (adjusted 3% yearly for monetary inflation).

If a 25% tariff is placed on something it is generally going to be more expensive.

The free traitors don’t want people to know, that tariffs can reduce the need for income and other taxes! Plus we get our jobs and industries back which drives even more domestic growth. They don’t want people to know because they sold their countrymen out!

Tarriffs certainly CAN be inflationary, if there are enough of them. Usually people just avoid the costs if they are onerous.

In this case, however, China devalued its currency so the end price didn’t increase for US consumers - which is currency manipulation and a problem, but didn’t inflate prices.

If a 25% tariff is placed on something it is generally going to be more expensive.

1. If you actually buy it.
2. If the seller maintains the same base price.
3. If the selling country doesn’t devaluate its current so that the end price is the same after the tariff. Countries don’t generally do that, but China did.

Tariffs generally cause prices to go up, but the increase in prices are circulated throughout the economy. It’s not a problem if the tariffed goods can be produced here, but tariffs on rare, and not locally produced goods, are not a good idea.

If a 25% tariff is placed on something it is generally going to be more expensive.

If a 25% tariff is placed on something the domestic producers are able to cut their prices by at least 20%.

Just eliminate the income tax. Replace it with tariffs and sin taxes. It was that way before. With no income tax people will have more to spend. Like the first 100+ years in our history.

Start out by lowering it to 1% straight across the board. Then go to work on eliminating it entirely through the amendment process. Some peoples taxes will go up at 1% believe it or not.

The existence of the Sixteenth Amendment (if it really was ratified) does not preclude the elimination of the income tax . . . but since the left in Congress at the turn of the previous century went so far as to create a Constitutional amendment to impose the second plank of communism on the USA, who then would have the will to utterly abolish the income tax?

Sin taxes so-called do not work. Witness the continued evasion with respect to tobacco and (where “legalized”) cannabis.
