With friends like Stinson... she claims to be a Republican but endorsed Davis and is trying to make abortion, and by extension, Simon the issue of this campaign. Davis should be the issue. I hate RINOs. Hopefully the rest of the Riordanites don't decide to follow her lead, though I think Parsky already is.

Conservative Commentary on Berkeley life.

Michelman warned supporters that with the coming elections, "Roe vs. Wade is hanging by a thread" in critical U.S. Senate races and that the availability of legal abortions is threatened in dozens of states in governor races across the country, including California.

Well then, Katie honey...maybe it's because We the People are getting sick and tired of baby-killing?

If I were Bill Simon I would say, "Yes I am pro-life. To be pro-life means standing against any evil instituion that cheapens human life, including abortion. I know this will cost me some votes, but I would rather be right than be governor."

Calling Stinson a RINO is an insult to RINOs everywhere. This is a disruptor out to drive a wedge in Republican ranks. She is a one-issue person who wants to destroy the party in order to make abortions abundant. An effective tactic. Maybe we should try it in the Democratic ranks ... oh yeah, the press would just ignore us to the same degree they fawn over no-account disruptors on the Left like her.

BTW, what is this malarkey about Californians being so prochoice that a prolife candidate is unelectable??? polls show that Davis, NARAL and NOW are the extremists on this issue, no Bill Simon.

abortion poll article

ABORTION POLL: Americans Conflicted on Abortion Rights, Restrictions, Los Angeles Times Poll Reveals

More than 25 years after the Supreme Court's landmark Roe v. Wade decision, a Los Angeles Times poll suggests that support for abortion rights may be waning as "Americans adopt a more nuanced view of the circumstances under which abortions should be allowed." The poll surveyed 2,071 Americans -- 986 men and 1,085 women -- from June 8-13 found that only 43% of current survey respondents support Roe v. Wade, down from 46% in 1996 and 56% in 1991. However, the poll also found "continued opposition" to a constitutional ban on the procedure. Although more than 50% of the individuals surveyed believe that abortion should either be illegal in all circumstances or legal only in cases of rape, incest or when a woman's life is in danger, more than two-thirds said that, regardless of their own opinion, the decision to end a pregnancy should be left to a woman and her physician. Further, while 57% of respondents consider abortion an act of murder, more than half that group believe that a woman should have the right to choose an abortion. "Americans, in terms of their own code of morality, may view abortion as murder and may be comfortable with it being illegal, but most Americans don't want to impose that on other people," Susan Carroll, a senior research associate at the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University, said.

More Results Nearly two-thirds of respondents said that abortion should be illegal after the first trimester, with 65% opposing abortions in the second trimester. Female respondents felt more strongly about the issue, as 72% of female respondents supported a ban on second-trimester abortions, compared with 58% of men. Eighty- five percent of those surveyed support abortion when a woman's physical health is at risk, 54% when her emotional health is at risk, and 66% when the fetus is at risk for an abnormality. Regarding the use of the abortifacient RU-486, 43% favor making the drug widely available, up from 32% 11 years ago, and 46% oppose making the drug widely available.

Simon is getting some bad advice. His "don't ask, won't tell" positioning only invites continued debate and controversy. Experience has shown that the way to deal with this issue is just as Reagan did: State your positon. Say sincere people can disagree. But, that's just the way it is. Next question.

Mr. Simon has to learn quick that politics is hardball, not dodge ball.

"Bill Simon has been very clear that he is anti-choice, . . . and he doesn't represent the interests of women on the issue of reproductive rights."

Gee whiz....how many euphemisms can someone cram into one sentence?

The whole thing is a non issue!

Until we get enough conservative judges in SCOTUS to over turn Roe B Wade, no governor of any state can stop abortions.

The lefties know this and Simon should just stand up and say I'm pro life, but I can do nothing about abortions and you know that!

Before conservatives jump on me, I am 100% pro life. However, the reality is that electing Simon to be governor of California will not have any impact on abortions in California while he is governor.

To stop abortions, we must elect enough conservative US senators to have a clear majority in the senate. Then GW has to nominate conservative judges for the Supreme Court and the senate needs to approve them. When we have enough, the baby murdering judgement will be set aside.

Until then we need to stop the left wing maggots on their number one card, the abortion card. It is a non issue until the Supreme Court changes the ruling. Simon and other republican governors cannot stop abortion. It is that simple!

Parsky is not backing Simon?

If I remember correctly, Simon beat Riordan by a bigger marging with women, than overall.

Has Demcrats for life ever been quoted by the media?

"California women deserve to know where (Simon) stands on reproductive rights issues," including stem cell research, funding for teen sex education and state-financed distribution of drugs like RU-486, said Harriet Stinson, founder of Republicans for Choice.

State-financed ? Oh, I forgot that Kalifornia is flush with cash.(/sarcasm)

The evil NARAL hags have infiltrated Republican organisations, across the country, from the town committee level on up. They are as ruthless as they are well organised. They have a table at every high profile Republican event in Connecticut. Something needs to be done to counter their influence. --MM

Most voters don't give a hoot about abortion. Any person who feels that strongly about this issue wouldn't vote for Simon in any event. Simon just needs to play a little jujitsu and say that Davis and his ilk just want to obscure the $17-billion deficit and the energy crisis.

"We're not going to let him," said Kate Michelman, the nation's leading abortion rights activist who heads NARAL, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League.

That's okay, Kate, because perhaps people should be reminded that you called abortion survivor Gianna Jesson a 'circus freak'..........kinda icy Kate, if you know what I mean.

Simon's campaign yesterday dismissed the talk as partisan rhetoric.

Actually, I think the rantings of Michelman are those of some embittered feminazi.

It seems to me at times that these types are those unable to form stable relationships with those of the opposite sex. It's almost like, "I hate men, and have a personal vendetta that I want to take to a global scale. I'm not going to have children with any man ever, so I want all women to join me in my misery; you must go as far as to kill any offspring you produce with them."

Sick.
