Committing suicide is technically immoral in Islam. The suicide bombers justify their suicides by saying that they are dying in battle, and not killing themselves for the sake of killing themselves.

If bin Laden thinks that ordering someone to kill him rather than eating the barrel of his own Kalashnikov qualifies as martyrdom instead of garden-variety suicide, Islam has an even more primitive moral system than I previously suspected.

Hm, let's see now. This is a tough one. Door number one: Americans kill me. Door number two: My son or my lieutenants kill me. Door number three: I kill myself. Which should I choose?

If I choose door number three, there is a slight chance that the lives of my wives, children, and loyal followers might be spared. Nah, I don't think I have the guts to pull the trigger, and besides, who gives a sh!t about their lives anyway? Certainly not me. After all, they live to serve ME.

If I choose door number one, the Americans can claim to have avenged the deaths of all those guilty people at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Nah, we can't have that.

So, I think I'll choose door number two and force those most loyal to me make me a martyr. But they have to promise to quaff the kool-aid, too, just to prove their love for me. I hope Allah remembered to wash the bedsheets and has those virgin boys and girls prepped, 'cause here we come.
