CATHERINE ZETA JONES has flown a carpenter from her home city of Swansea to fit and repair windows at her mansion in Los Angeles.
Determined to have the work done by someone she felt she could trust, Zeta Jones gave Daniel Whalley, a family friend, a £7,667 first-class return ticket.
Yesterday, however, it was disclosed that Mr Whalley could be out of a job when he returns home as the firm that employs him has ceased trading since his departure.
Zeta Jones's brother Lyndon, a former carpenter in Swansea who now handles her film deals, contacted Mr Whalley, a friend from their school days.
Mr Whalley has taken two weeks off from his shopfitting job to help Miss Zeta Jones, 32, and her husband, Michael Douglas, 57, who were reported to have security fears about using local workmen.
Mr Whalley's employer, Jeff Cole, confirmed that his firm in Swansea had gone into receivership after 30 years. Mr Cole said: "Dan took holiday leave and is out there on his own time. He is a good lad, dead straight, and that was what they were looking for.
"They like to sleep at nights. They want to be sure no one has walked off with a spare set of keys. Lyndon came on the phone and said Catherine needed some work done.
"They were not happy employing local craftsmen and, as I understand it, the question was one of security. They have baby Dylan to think about, of course. Dan has the skill and can certainly be trusted."
Mr Whalley lives in a semi with his girlfriend Mandy, near to where the Jones's grew up. A friend said: "He's due back this weekend and he'll be straight into his local for a pint."

The least the Douglas' can do is offer this poor bloke a caretaker's job. But the visa would be a problem, as he's probably white and has marketable skills.

She's probably sick of looking at Mr. Facelift, and wants to watch the muscular young carpenter swing his hammer. :)

I do not understand people's fascination with this woman. Sure, she's OKAY looking, but I can think of hundreds of celebrities that look better.

Heck, Viagra for Douglas woulda been a whole lot cheaper. |
Or better still, she could've asked me. I would've even paid for my own ticket.

ha ha ha ha!!! That facelift he got didn't take too well it appears! I don't know why she's sticking around now that she's got the required child-support baby. I give it another year or 2 at the max!

Speculation only: I'm sure that Ms. Zeta Jones doesn't like that her hubby must first ingest 10 tabs of Viagra to get it on with her. How sexy is that?! (This comment is not to infer that all men of that age group are impaired in such a way. Only aging Hollywood Romeos who feast on young women like vampires.)

Catherine Zeta Jones has been 32 y.o. for several years now. Hmmm.

Ditto Timesink. This is just Hollywood hype that keeps her "in the public eye" -- there are many women in the real world far better looking. No offense Mrs. Douglas.
