Not surprised by what? That they're called out, or that they don't generate headlines?

That being said, they are all a little wacky down there. I'll take exception to that...but I was lucky -- I escaped NJ during the Florio years. Live Free or Die!

Good Post JMK!
I know the leaders of the SWAT teams in my area from Martial Arts and Firearms Classes and I absolutely agree that they are my heroes and have my total trust. I'm glad that the citizens of Dover have enjoyed such a good streak of non-fatal interventions(doing it right saves lives)... I hope this shooter turns out to be an organic problem...he may have stroked out or something...
I'm very sorry for the victims...I'm sure the community will come together for them. NJ has got to have some redeeming qualities to offset their draconian legal atmosphere...I hope!

Just heard this on FOXNews.
They said he used his SWAT-issued MP5.

"25 millimeter hand gun"
That would be funny if 90-something % of the public didn't believe everything they said about guns. Oh hell - I laughed anyway when I read it. What idiots.

"If the feds gave grant money to municipalities for hiring one legged midgets to swing from trees while singing show tunes, the municipalities would be lining up for the cash." Somebody tell me what it take to nominate this quote for "Free Republic Quote of the Day"! Seriously. This one is just too juicy to let go. Well put!

Well now, how many people did that untrained crazy guy kill with a semi-auto AK in that Kali-school yard a few years back ? .......Versus this trained cop with a full auto MP-5 and a bunch of trusting (unarmed) sheep living around him ?!?!??
I guess the HCI Potato head types will spin this soon so I will first. This proves that people with full auto weapons and highly trained in their use are less of a threat to society when they snap like spandex on a fat girl !
Stay Safe !

I LIVE in Toms River -- there are easily about 250,000 people within a 20 mile radius, and during the summer months the population may swell to double that. Since the cop in question was from the "edgy" resort town of Seaside Heights, visited by all sorts from the city (Philly/NYC clientele), anything can happen, believe me.
To: ppaul
You were in this "tin-pot town", or flew over it in a Cessna back in 1965?
To: Travis McGee
Heard that it has just a little recoil.

I have to talk to my ex GM/G daughter about this. She was the mount captain of a "25" when she was active duty. She has been holding out on this 25mm handgun. I need one as well.
To: F16Fighter
I've been there.
Recently.
They don't need a SWAT team.
The militarization of our police needs to stop.
And, the federal government needs to get out of the local police business.
Local law enforcement should be local.
Federal tax dollars should not be flowing to local governments.
Why should someone in Salmon, Idaho be paying for Toms River's SWAT team?

Yep, don't expect this story to be seen on ABCNNBCBS. The shooter does not fit the correct mold.
Now if he had been an angry divorced white redneck civilian, it would be covered 24/7.

You forgot "Texan" :o)..........Stay Safe !
